Interesting. Do you have a web site or source regarding when different kinds of AP/SAP bombs were distributed/deployed?

the web sites are linked on my home computer, i can get them if its that important to you, but i suspect this is another exercise in evasive maneuvering. I await your source that proves that GP bombs as represented in UV can penetrate up to 10 inches of armor grade steel.
We're chasing tails on Yamato. Sunk by torps works for me, but the underwater assessment team (that included some alleged experts, one hopes; and considering the cost and typical make-up of such underwtaer historical explorations there's no reason to think they did not have some experts look at the pix) concluded that the #3 magazine blew. The best proximal explanation was the fire. The fire was "uncontrollable" according to the crew who survived the sinking. The explanation notably did not say "they'd have controlled the fire but the DC team were dead" or "they'd have controlled the fire but for all the torpedoes going off." It just said "uncontrollable." That could include the reasons you mentioned or it could mean that the magazine was unapproachable because of the heat, or that there was no source of water, or.. or.. [/B]

No, we are not chasing tails. I am sticking to the point in the thread. You are evading and maneuvering. Yamato sank as a direct result of severe progressive flooding. The fire, the conditions of the fire, how and if it reached the magazine and whether or not the Japanese could have extinquished the fire or flooded the magzine are irrelevent to the topic of the direct effect of GP bombs. If one were to follow the path that you are trying to weave, this would be covered by my preposal that FIRE damage be allowed the chance to cause a catastrophic effect, up to and including MAGAZINE Detonation. I have repeatedly suggested this but you continue to ignore it. Bombs can and should cause FIRE levels regardless of penetration. All for it....especially for carriers in the period covered by UV.

Hell, I would gladly accept a freak magazine explosion destroying the Yamato (or any BB) due to a fire in UV any day rather than seeing said unit(s) continually perforated like a tin foil by GP bombs producing mass SYS and FLT damage. A phenomenon that is easily repeated over and over in UV.
