I'd love to go but I'm exactly 108 hexes away. Way past my movement range.
I know this because MWiF has a built in distance calculator.

Perhaps the highly efficient German railway system would be better? It was ideal for moving units around quickly [:'(]ORIGINAL: AxelNL

I'm trying to get in contact to make sure they are reserved for you - when do you expect to be there so they know when to hold them till?
We should be there around lunch time. If we are not there before 15:00 we probably had bad luck during travelling by car. In that case we will post something here.
Thanks,
Lex

Unfortunately, the cooperation between the Dutch and German railway system isn't what I call very good. I would like to see more and especially cheaper railway connections between Amsterdam and the Ruhr area.ORIGINAL: Neilster

I go by car quite often to Germany. In most instances, I'm definetely faster by car than by train (and it's a lot cheaper too...).
Now, within Germany and the Netherlands itself, trains are quite competitive (especially when you have to go into a city center with the problems of finding parkingspace (which can be quite expensive in some cities here. Prices in Amsterdam are now € 5,-- per hour of parking...).
But long distance isn't very good from the Netherlands to Germany. Also because of the fact that the train takes someone from a place where he isn't starting to a place where he doesn't wand to end his travels.
No, I'll take my Volkswagen and drive tomorrow...

RE: On sale at Essen tomorrow - How Much ?
Can you please just let us know the release price .
I have been playing wif since the early 90s and when I first went on the next in the mid 90s the first thing I searched for was computer wif. I have played via vasal and face to face for years but my group is scattered to the corners of the globe and this will we can play again at last.
I will be buying a copy and just need to know how much I need to budget for. I have watched the project develop and want to play so
please can you let us know the release price (without maps that I won't need) including tax and postage to the Uk.
Cheers

Hi Petracelli,
I'll give you my estimate:
- Game (without map): £64 (based on half of €150 as per above)
- Shipping: £10 (I'm guessing here, as it could be a lot more, as Command Air/Naval has shipping of £5.10, but this weights a lot more because of the manuals)
- VAT: £14.80 (20%)
- Handling fee: £8 (the extortionate fee that the "customs agent" charges for paying the VAT on your behalf at the port of entry)
- Customs duty: £0 (some goods seem to attract an extra duty at customs, but I'm not sure if this will, but it may also depend on the value of the goods. If you want to be conservative, add 6%)
So about £100 all up is my estimate. Unless of course Slitherine is shipping from the UK or EU, then you can remove the handling fee and customs duty, and the postage will be less.
The look on your wife's face when she sees the credit card bill: priceless.

Hmmm 200 bucks, I actually guessed the price fairly close.
200 bucks is as I have already stated elsewhere though, small potatoes.
ASL player wouldn't even think it asking too much.
I will be waiting for the moment it is officially on sale, can't order something until it is actually on sale.
I want the books, of course I want the books. Look like well made articles. I wish they had done the same for ASL. I had to go the route of buying full page insets just so the manual doesn't die. 3 ring binders are only useful in high school where the pages won't see a lot of action.
The maps? Likely a horrible waste of paper for me, but I still want them
For those interested, you can buy rolls of magnet that can be cut into pieces to stick on back of the counters. I have one here as a matter of fact. Always wanted to do that with my AH The Longest Day game (it has a 5 x 5.5 foot map best put on a wall than a table).
I don't know how fast the Essen copies will sell, and I am not sure what your world wide sales potential is either. I am not even sure what the world wide total of actual players is. That's of course a challenge for the creators to think about though. But I know this much MMP seems to do just fine selling to it's fan base.
You can add +1 to whatever sales numbers you are watching though. I'm a sold copy. I'm having trouble finding models to buy at any rate lately. And I have one perk no of you will ever know too

I have too many too complicated wargames, and not enough sufficiently interested non wargamer friends.

That's really an important point for EU customers. Consider also that payment of import fees is really a pain (at least for me in Italy it was): the box stays blocked at the port / airport, after 1 week I receive a chargement bill, I have to go to the post to pay it, and wait 7-10 days till I finally get the game (ca. 1 month after my order). Clarification by Matrix / Slitherine about a EU distribution would be appreciated.

Centuur and I just returned from Essen. We are now the proud owners of a copy each, en brought one for a friend of Centuur.
We thank the CEO and Marketing Director of Slitherine for their warm Scottish/Italian reception and their storage space whilst we where doing the tour of Spiel'13.
See picture for what to expect if you order three copies....

It does look like care needs to be taken on those map fold corners with that packaging. Thanks for the pic.

As I understand it, for standard orders (i.e., after November 7th) the map segments will be stacked with the players manuals and the whole package will have extra protection (e.g., especially for the map corners).

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest Zorachus is ribbing Steve (who as you know was very cagey about release dates after a few years).

Lets see... Command Modern Air,Navel Operations, with (1)softbound small manual... $95.00. Lets wonder what a game with 3 Full Size Hardbound Books will cost?
No matter what, I think I will jump in along with the maps.(and take a beating as I have never played and know nothing about the game, but can't help myself but buy it.)

It was announced for Nov 7th, then it came back to "Coming Soon" which made very nervous some of us (after past history...), but nowadays nov 7th has been confirmed again, that's why.
