Allied Bases Captured

Georgetown, Muntok

I dont generally like to say much to my opponent during a game as it is extremely easy to let some piece of OPSEC slip. NJP mentioned I threaded the needle with my cruiser attack. I am not sure if he realizes there are any troops on Cocos Island yet. In addition, the phrase "Threaded the needle" is very interesting. My spider senses are tingling. I think he might be closer to the indian coast than I know or hope.

There is still heavy ship traffic west of Java. I think the combat at Cocos might have been a very significant battle due to it being the leading edge of his sword. He must have been planning on landing there and yet it never happened. Most of the ships are likely to sink and there are no close ports. Someone mentioned once that you do not need a lot of ships to do a lot of damage and this case illustrates that.

Whatever he is doing it is significant. It is now December 28th and he has not done a Mersing nor any other manuver to get close to Singapore. I am wondering if he is trying a modified campaign against India and/or Australia as he is making no effort to take Manila or Singapore at this time. He is not really working hard on Palembang either. I think I have Palembang figured out though. The oil will be there no matter what so a week or two will not make any difference in what the base will gain him. Plus I have mines in the channel and at the base.

Because of my feelings and my deteriorating ability to get a sighting on either of his carrier forces I decided to pull the unrestricted brigade (I think I bought it out but maybe not) off of Columbo. There are 2 brigades that will show up on the island for reinforcements in 4 days and I would like to evacuate one or both of them but I have a feeling there just might not be enough time. I am moving some transports to the tip of India and will have them wait there rather than in Columbo.

We had a few significant battles in China and he managed to kill over 10,000 troops this turn. Ouch!! Not much remedy for it though, eventually he was going to catch me somewhere.

I have 171 AV on Cocos Island, 450 AV on Diego Garcia, Christmas Island got a bunch of goodies including almost 250 AV and an engineer regiment to get the airfields built up. Palmyra got 2 USMC artillery units. Calcutta is 800+ with 500 AV coming from Burma within a month by foot. Madras is at 300 AV and Bombay is over 500.

It looks like he is planning on working India or Australia or both so I am planning a deep strike for the HI. It might get him thinking. The deployment of this strike is going to take a while. It is not meant to be anything more than a psyop and maybe bag a few ships far behind the lines. I need to take the initiative away from NJP and start making him react if possible.

Reinforcements are going to start flowing in from Aden soon. I am worried about the extra bases in the northwest corner of the map using the extended map. I pulled the base force of Socatra. I fear he might try to set up bases to block supplies and troops from Aden. My plan is to have most of the reinforcements and supplies of the USA flow through Cape Town and into India, Java, Sumatra and Australia as needed.

Carriers are on the way as well.

I am sure he can take out the Cocos Islands relatively easily and he could kill the 18th division at Diego Garcia but that would take quite a bit more work. I have a feeling most of the action in the game is going to occur in the Western Ocean(s) for the next 3-6 months.

Allied Bases Captured

Praboemoelih, Port Hedland

The KB is west of Perth at the moment. It killed the DD Vampire who was doing ASW against several Japanese subs in the area. I just moved a light cruiser group out of Perth last turn so timing was on my side again. One of his mine sweepers tries to remove the mines at Balikpapan without taking down the fort first and pays for it. Knowing where the KB is gives me a sense of relief. I think I have the time I need now. Chances are that he is going to do a traditional expansion and not try to get all the troops to either Australia or India for a TKO.

I unleashed my mighty Dutch bomber force on the surrounding Japanese navy. So far all they have managed to do is spray some water on top of a few merchant ships. They are going to be destroyed anyway so maybe a little more chaos is good.

Allied Bases Captured

Denpasar, Nadzab, Tjilatjap, Banjoewangi, Wuchow

The Japanese begin invading Geraldton with the 4th Division. The Pingsiang pocket manuver appears to have worked. Troops are 15/46 out of the hex in combat mode and I do not believe that any further units of his can reinforce before they walk away. He is pushing hard for Sian and I can understand why. I am moving troops back to start defending closer to the homeland.

Nothing is going on near Rangoon and Moulemain. Most of the Allied troops have left their bases and are OTW to India via Imphal by ground march. It will supply Calcutta with over 500AV of troops within a month. There is no reason for the Allies to contest Burma.

Allied Bases Captured

Semarang, Singkep

The defenders at Geraldton withheld the first assault but they are not going to last long. He has nearly 700 AV on the ground including the 4th division and many support troops. I have about 225 AV at Perth that I am debating whether to move or not. They will be behind level 3 or higher forts so his first attack is going to come in at 2-1 or less if he does not bring more troops than what he has in the initial invasion of Geraldton.

At this point it might be worth the sacrifice of fighting him rather than just running. The bulk of the forces are the 13th Australian brigade and about 100AV of Dutch troops evacuated from several locations in the DEI. Melbourne has over 300 AV and Sydney has nearly 900 AV and they are staying put until I determine what NJP's intentions are.

It will be interesting to see if he brings more or if that is it and he is following a normal expansion in the game.

One of my heavy cruisers takes a torpedo while in the Townsville harbor. NJP likes to sail his subs into the harbors and take on the TF's. That is not a tactic I am used to and I will have to figure out how to combat it. I am guessing that ASW patrols plus an ASW TF on patrol in that hex should suppress some of it.

There is zero activity in the Pacific. It is like he forgot about it. Tarawa is not conquered nor Tabituea. I am starting to move troops into the area. I have a marine regiment loading (after just unloading) at Christmas heading for Canton Island. Johnston island is gettting a marine defense battalion. I have a whole division setting up to go to Tabituea if I manage to buy them out but that will probably take a month or two. If NJP does not reinforce and/or fight out at these islands then I will take them for the first time in a game.

The indian coast is quiet. 2 regiments and a Heavy AA just showed up on Columbo for reinforcements and in 3 days I will be loading and moving them to the continent.

No action at Cocos that I can detect. He has Padang under siege and looks like he will take Palembang from the south with ground troops rather than an amphibious assault. No action at Rangoon nor anything along the indian coast.

All the troops with the exception of the CD unit have been evacuated from Dutch Harbor. I have seen absolutely no activity from NJP in this area but I really dont need to be strung out all along these islands ATM. If NJP takes some it is just more opportunity to let him develop the bases and then kill his troops in thanks. If he tries to go further and take Kodiak then it is going to cost him dearly.

The Pingsiang pocket maneuver worked better than expected with him retreating one hex east. I could have tried to surround and kill his units but inexperienced Chinese units low on supply do not make very good assault troops. So, I managed to save 700 AV and he gets to keep his 2 brigades intact. The units will move to the west. I dont expect this pocket to last long and the entire army will be retreating toward the capital to set up properly in 3x terrain behind rivers where available. I am shifting most troops to the west for preparation of moving to the northwest. There is only 1000AV behind the lines in the plains that is really cut off. He may not even try to stop them from getting back to my lines, I am not sure but I will try to save them too.

Allied Bases Captured

Samarinda, Bandjermasin, Watampone, Pamekasan

NJP does an amphibious assault with the 4th Division that just was involved in the battle at Geraldton.

Can anyone tell me what the 5th Air Division is? Is that a HQ or is it a really huge parachute unit?

Anyway, it appears to me that NJP is trying to cause shit near Geraldton and maybe use air assault to cut off my retreat. He doesnt realize I have around 500 AV to his 700 AV in the area so I am not really worried about retreating at this point. He could also be hoping that I rush all of my Australian forces to the west coast to defend Perth. Well that aint gonna happen.

The 4th division will be supporting 225 AV at perth with at least lvl 3 forts. I am moving a few smaller units by rail to a dot hex up near Geraldton. The division he used to attack is down south and the 2 regiments are moving down the coast road so Geraldton should not be well defended unless he brought more troops than that. I am almost considering using the 4th by rail transport and shooting it up there as well. I would probably lose Perth however.

Word of warning for fighting in Western Oz: you depend on a single rail line for supply and reinforcements.

If I was your opponent, I'd be looking to land in your rear, along the southern coast of Oz, and cut that rail line. I'd watch for task forces moving south of Geraldton, and commit only the bare minimum.

I'm not saying run at the first sign of a landing (as your opponent could just bluff to try get you to pull back needlessly), but you need to resist the strong temptation to rail all those restricted Austrailian units to western Oz, where they'd see some action.

Allied Bases Captured

Katherine, Busselton, Christmas Island IO

Sending some armor from Townsville towards Perth.

NJP takes Katherine cutting off Darwin and I didnt even see the move coming. I must just not have been paying attention. It doesnt matter though, all the Darwin forces I could move are almost to Tenant Creek already. The only thing left is the CD and a BF.

He also takes Christmas island. Cocos is likely next. I cant wait to find out if he knows troops are there or not. If not he is going to lose a small unit and have to take the time to adjust. I am sure the troops are going to end up squashed either way.

Allied Bases Captured

Madioen, Soerabaja

NJP destroys an Australian battalion near Perth

I am wondering if he is in the process of a pincer movement on Australia. I spotted a ship 7 hexes west of Suva last turn and have been lax in my search coverage of that area. It would make sense. Otherwise nothing on the radar in terms of big movements. I should see something soon. He is frustrated he cannot find my carriers. I cant find them either ;]
