As I am still relatively new, had no idea how old turns folder was used, except to drop old turns in, which I try to do. I can live without it if everyone agrees.

A very large German fleet was sighted south of Norway. It engaged and defeated a small Royal Navy observation squadron and sailed west. There is much speculation as to the destination of this fleet.
The United States also notes the huge slaughter in the Sino-Japanese war. This conflict is so bloody.

Japanese 3rd, 4th and 5th Armies have joined together forming a line from the Northernmost part of China all the way to South of Hangchow.
I did not want this but China made it clear that she did not want peace. Since I don't believe in fighting defensive wars when you can go on the offense I am attacking...unfortunately the Chinese people are suffering huge losses because of the stubbornness of their Warlords.
The 2nd Army is in Murchuka (spelling)????? The 1st Army is in Japan itself.
All Japanese cities have been increased by annexes to the highest level possible. It is simply not worth the cost to increase Chinese Cities with Annexes Or to industrialize them. The only thing left is to increase the economy but I'm sure somewhere there is a point where cost is more than the benefit.
In the meantime I am advancing my tech levels as fast as I can. Until next year when I can again build a factory. Which is now the only way to advance my production other than general economic increases.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
Japanese greed for the lands of China knows no bounds.
The Japanese will learn that China will choose resistance over slavery.
There is another factor however, for the American people are becoming more and more unhappy with Japanese cruelty and slaughter. The United States clearly sees that Japan is deeply at fault in this conflict. We will give China support in every way we can, and this includes going to war with Japan. Japan can rename her armies as 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Targets for when the American people rise in their wrath Japan will see what a horrible mistake they made in underestimating the United States of America.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
Darn timeout.
Japan does not have greed for the lands of China.
We are trying to finish the actions the West and Japan took when the Chinese Warlords murdered so many innocent missionaries and businesspersons
during the Boxer Rebellion. China broke it's word and has promoted the Warlords that committed these crimes. When we free China of these warlords our mission
in China is finished. The USA could help by promising aid after the warlords are defeated because Japan alone cannot rebuild and bring China into the
20th Century. We will leave China after we "lead" them into the 20th Century the same way the USA has promised to leave the Philippines. The Chinese warlords have forced many Chinese into "slave" armies (hence the term CONSCRIPTS) and thrown them at our Armies.
Since my election in 1938 to head the government I have brought forward many reforms...officers and men that harm innocent Chinese civilians under our rule are being punished now. While my reforms have been slower than I'd hope to take effect they nevertheless have taken effect.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
Chinese causalities are somewhat lighter, and Japanese losses much, much lighter because they have switched to using artillery, on land and sea, and airpower to hit Chinese troops. These longer ranged weapons allow them to kill with little risk. We see their method, and understand the motivation we think, but it does give us a chance to get a better relative position.
Japan seems to think well of its motives and methods, and misunderstands the political systems in China. This is unimportant. What counts is how prepared Japan is when their war of conquest in China turns into the great Pacific war. When the USN comes it will come in strength. Admiral Yamamoto may, or may not, have said that America was a "sleeping giant", but in this quiet time preparations for war in the vast stretches of the Pacific are taking place.
It will not be too long till the crowded lines of land warfare will yield to the sweeping battles on sea. There Glory will be found.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
Yes. With China and USA played by the same person...the USA always comes to the aid of the Chinese. Even tho I doubt sincerely that the average American gave a damn about what was happening in China. Or at least cared enough to think that the USA should enter the war for that reason.
In 1940 after France fell the USA navy raced the Japanese Navy to Hanoi....the Japanese Navy won and Japan "invaded" French Indochina. No one knows what would have happened if the USA navy would have won that race....would Japanese ships attacked the harbor anyway...The American Admiral had no orders on what to do if the Japanese won the race so he asked for directions and getting none did nothing. Shortly thereafter the USA imposed a total embargo on oil to Japan which included foreign oil producers based in the USA...since Standard Oil was the world's larger producer of Oil (more than 80% of the world's oil was produced by Standard Oil of the USA) that meant Japan had less than ONE or at most two years of oil left before their economy CRASHED. They tried to negotiate a compromise but the Americans who did not know the Japanese culture had taken over the state department and refused ALL compromises--even ones which Japan would leave the French Indochina area but would have saved face. Rather than adjectively surrendering to American demands that they leave French Indochina immediately they attacked the USA at YOU KNOW WHERE and took the oil fields that Standard Oil controlled in Dutch East India. Some people believe that this was intentional on the part of the USA but no proof exist that it was anything more than bumbling by the State Department.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
The US embargoed Japan for its war in China. We warned them numerous times if they started the war back up what would happen.
Favoritism is alive and well here.
RE: GD1938 Game 21
I'll remind you that Japan did not restart the War in China....China did when it attacked my troops. (Game history not real history).
And I think if you reviewed history you will find that the USA did NOT embargo Japan because of the war in China but Japan's taking of French Indochina.
The war in China had been ongoing for more than 2 years before the USA embargoed Japan. But only months had past after Japan took Indochina that the embargo was imposed and the main demand of the USA to lift the embargo was that Japan leave Indochina.
Part of the reason the Japanese were at war with China was the Boxer Rebellion and it's results and the communistic expansion into China.
The embargo and freezing of all Japanese assets in the USA happened on July 29, 1941 which was YEARS after the war with China had resumed but less than
TWO months after Japan took bases in Indochina. The embargo/freezing was followed shortly by Britain and the Netherlands. They (the Japanese) had secured
these bases with the agreement of the Vichy a country recognized by the USA if not approved. The NY Times called this freezing/embargo "the most drastic
blow short of war." The Japanese saw this as the last step in the encirclement of Japan by the ABCD powers (America, Britain, China, and Dutch)
a major challenge to Japan's very existence.

I took my turn as Italy last night. I thought I put Japan's next turn in dropbox, but I don't see it. Did I forget to put it there, or is Japan playing it now?

Japan continues to smash away at China.
Losses in the Japanese attacks : Inf 460-80, SM 5-0, Art 4-0, Arm 1-0, LoF 3-3. Knowing that Japan can win the war by taking China, Mongolia, and Vladivostok makes countering their aggression a prime goal of the USA. China is fighting well, but the Japanese are building air power and artillery which can kill without taking losses.
All nations should watch Japanese progress carefully.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
Japan has become very adept at killing Chinese. Last month the ratio of infantry losses was 10-1. The Chinese lost 10 men for every Japanese loss. The Japanese mean to possess all of China, and this is a very bad thing for the world. In the United States there is a constant debate over intervention. Just now the isolationists hold the upper hand, but the balance is tipping against isolation.
Sooner or later the United States will attempt to prevent the conquest and assimilation of China by Japan. This is Realpolitik, not some Missionary sympathy for the Chinese. The Japanese can count on at least one more nation standing against them.

In North Africa the Italian Army has taken Cairo and isolated Alexandria. The British Fortress of Malta has been under constant bombardment from the air and sea. It is only a matter of time before it falls. The British are also being driven from eastern Africa by the Italian forces in Ethiopia. The alliance between Italy and Germany has been the catalyst for the Italian armed forces to make these gains.

China is in danger.
China has called for help from the Soviet Union. We have offered an alliance, and hope for active Red Army participation against the murderous Japanese. China has lost all front line cities, and Canton is threatened.
If we cannot get aid China may well fall, and a powerful Japan will stand astride the East.
China hoped for help from the USA, but she remains isolationist.
( Chuck : has anyone ever seen such a recalcitrant USA. The only country I have in the western hemisphere is Brazil. China has one South American country, yet my report says 17% - 2%. Why 2%, -1 for Brazil, +1 for another nation holding a SA nation looks like 0%? In any case the American people don't want in. )

China made peace with Japan impossible by attacking Japanese troops and demanding that Japan leave the Asian Continent. China is now reaping the seeds it has sown. It is up to China to make peace...we are willing to listen to all reasonable offers. Until then we shall continue our war against the murderous warlords of China.

RE: GD1938 Game 21
The Soviet Union has accepted the Chinese offer of alliance, The supreme Soviets does not wish to tweak any noses, but The Supreme Soviet is happier with a situation where China and Japan act as a balance to each others strength. Any change in this status quo is a concern, we will not actively join in the fighting for the time being, assistance to the Chinese will come in the form of Training Technical and Information sharing. It would be foolish to speak to the Japanese of ceasefires and withdrawals so we we will make no attempt to do so.
Are we like late Rome, infatuated with past glories, ruled by a complacent, greedy elite, and hopelessly powerless to respond to changing conditions?
RE: GD1938 Game 21
The Chinese are facing the complete destruction of our culture.
Our fate appears to be complete subjugation by the Japanese.
