One last bump to mention that there are only a few days left to get in on the Kickstarter. They are just shy of the last goal, which is PVP skirmish mode, which they will more than likely hit. The single player campaign sounds like it will be amazing! Most recent update gives a rough visual of what the game engine will look like.

Digging this thread back up with good news, the first video of the game in action was put out a couple days ago. It looks pretty awesome, definitely happy about backing it. Hard to believe it's been almost a year already. I also recently got my Kickstarter goodies, my man cave is now complete with a House Davion banner hanging on the wall.

Pre-pre-alpha footage. Looks great already.

My hand is edging towards my wallet - just because I can't recall a good Battletech style turn-based tactical game being published.

There were things like Mech Commander 1 /2 in the past but they were RTS and always felt flawed to me.

From my brief viewing of the video, it appears that this may have the right "feel" / flow to it.

Mulling ....

Thanks Matti - I'll give them a shot if my Mech urges get the best of me. =)

Although I'm fine with JTS / HPS historical games with older / basic graphics, for Mech games I would prefer both high quality graphics and good game play - so am likely to support and fund this title.

You'll probably be happy to know that some of the lead guys on the development team for this game are the original creators of Battletech. There are some older videos and articles out there where they talk about their design philosophy. They want it to be as much like the table-top game as possible, but better. And also the campaign of the game will be a bit of an RPG, digging into the lore of the Battletech universe, particularly the 3025 era for this first game.

I'm really happy to see how they have made light and medium mechs stay relevant, even when an Atlas is on the field. The little 'ol Commando even managed to zip around and land some potent rear armor hits.

@Matti I really need to learn how to play MegaMek. It looks cool and has almost everything you could want, besides pretty graphics. Don't they have large scale campaigns that go on in the forums? Have you done one of those?

Forums can be used, but I used to prefer real-time chat (when I was still playing). In addition of that, MegaMek has got some assistant programs for single player campaigns and MMO type multiplayer campaigns.

MMO element is called MekWars. Every MekWars server has its own customized client software which should not be cross-used with other MekWars servers. So if you want to play on more than 1 MekWars server, you need to download more than 1 MekWars client software. All MekWars client programs come in all-in-1 Zip-files which are ready to go right after unzipping them. MegaMek is part of it, so don't try to unzip it over MegaMek you might have previously got. MekWars clients include real-time chat. You can use it to ask anything and everything about BattleTech, MegaMek, MekWars, and everything else. This is home site of 3025 MekWars server and download link is clearly visible.
