RE: New Scenario for testing NF 11.1 Vagar Vengeance
Hi Gunner
Im on my 3rd play through.
On my 3rd. one, as always, WP gets a good fix on TG De Ruyter and sends a large strike force from Vagar on a suicide mission to kill them. They get one ship but that's it. None of the WP strikers made it home. They did give good intel to a strong missile sub (just a guess) and after 3 hours of constant 2 missile volleys the TG De Ruyter is annihilated!
The AMRAAM armed Harriers from TG Invincible are sent in low to pick off the AEW helo's. Alarm and Martel loaded Buc's and Tornado's are sent on SEAD, with Phantom's on CAP. My SEAD didn't do well,1 Back Net with 3 Buc's and 2 Tornado's destroyed! CAS was OK, 3 Phantom's died slaughtering 12 Floggers and 8 Frogfeet with the TG De Ruyter assisting with 12 Floggers killed.
The Upholder deposited the SBS teams with no drama.
The Clemenceau was treated to a few torps. and sunk one of her escorts before her Helos's got to that pesky sub and put it to the bottom.
I'm 3 hours in, have gotten message about para. drop, Have been using the AMRAAM Harriers to great effect destroying the AEW and MP helo's. Have also been using them to play a game of "chicken" with the long range SA-12's. They fire at max range and I easily out range the missiles. (I find this kind of "gamey" but those 12's have been harassing me badly!!) Its now quiet on that front, still a lot of short range threats.....LORDY!
My SBS teams are giving some great INTEL, not sure how to use the C4 on some targets though.
My AMRAAM Harrier's are RTB and due for a 4 hour stand down. Im sending the "Ground pounders" in from Invincible and Lossiemouth, hoping the SBS teams can lase me some targets. Clemenceau is moving at full to get in better range for her aircraft, TG Primaugue is headed at flank to Vagar hoping to provide some fire support.
I have not even gotten to the 1st para. drop before I take horrible losses! Hopefully 3rd time is the charm! Another "hard" one from Gunner!!
Great fun...I like difficult scenarios...going back in!

Thanks Danny
- I might have to limit that ASuW strike to allow the targets closer to the islands.
- Also the SA-12, wonder how I can mess with the WRA range settings in Lua to prevent the cat & mouse, it's a reasonable tactic and not necessarily 'gamey' but the SAM guys should mess with you a bit. Say draw you in then open up the range, that sort of thing..pondering..
You should have a long night full of targets...
Enjoy

RE: New Scenario for testing NF 11.1 Vagar Vengeance
Hi Gunner
OK, finished this finally. It was....
TG Primaugue was destroyed trying to get in gun range of Vagar. Those damn subs must have unlimited missiles!
My airstrikes into Vagar wasn't pretty, I lost some good pilots. Thank god for the SBS teams. While doing recon I only targeted the 15's,etc. and left the MANPADS alone. Holy smokes, those MANPADS are an infestation on this island!
The 1st para drop was completed and those troopers were very welcome. It was becoming clear that I had a lot of enemy troops to fight. One of my SBS teams were spotted by WP infantry and killed. I decided to send in the Clemenceau's "ground pounders". I was worried that they were going to get crapped on by SAM's...better them than my para drop birds [X(].
Then like manna from heaven came the artillery!!! It was an act of devastating destruction on the enemy forces. I switched the Clemenceau's birds from ASUW to a strike on the HQ bunker, which was accomplished with no fanfare. Upholder sunk a sub. One of TG Birmingham's group took a torpedo near Torshavn, Birmingham's helos got that rat bastard sub. Intrepid and Fearless made it to their stations, then.....
.....Thats it, the rest of the 4+ hours was the para drop coming and going. No enemy bomber strike that I thought was coming arrived.
I started getting points for destroyed bombers on the message log (3 to be exact)out of fuel perhaps?
I wouldn't limit the ASuW, this is a great scenario! It has a lot of moving pieces. Even when I knew what was coming I was biting my knuckles!

Thanks Danny, I'll check the bombers. They should have struck when the Amphibs arrived. Seems like most other things are working as planned.

OK
Another go at this one. Danny picked up a problem with the Bear attack which should be fixed now. Also upgraded to latest DB and the sonar ranges sprung way out, so the ASW battle may be different as well.
Thanks.

RE: New Scenario for testing NF 11.1 Vagar Vengeance
I can't manage to Destroy radars with my AS 37 Martels. I'm very close to the target (5nm), on 9500ft with radar on since about 5 Minutes but it says always
"Weapon must detect target prior to firing"
Any hints?
Thank's
Andy

RE: New Scenario for testing NF 11.1 Vagar Vengeance
You will need to coax the radar to turn itself on before the Martel will acquire it. One way of doing that is to fire something else at it to force it into self defence mode. Another is to destroy the other radars around, they are triggered to light up one at a time when the radiating one gets killed.
Remember that the purpose of a SEAD mission is to supress. If the radar is not radiating - it is supressed.
I think AndrewJ pointed out a way where the triggers wouldn't work properly earlier in this thread.
I do think the best way of destroying radars is with a couple blocks of C-4 though [;)]

Thank's.
I see that the radar are radiating... Maybe i will have to lower the altitude of my bucaner. But i think i have to start again. I'm now to near and getting shut down...
