Problem: I can't seem to log in as the Soviet player, at least into the game that says "Soviet password selected." I get in as the Axis player and see Axis units still sitting along the frontier obviously not having moved.

The HQ's in Riga can escape by sea, btw. Nice to have control of the Baltic for a change (too many games of World in Flames...)

You should be able to slip at least some of those guys around Tarnopol out. There appears to be only one German armored div in your way.

Good luck to the Western Front guys in northern Belarus, though.

Germans in RL are a hell of a lot more aggressive than the AI.

June 24th, 1941

I. Reports confirm that our forward defences North of the Pripyat Marshes have been completely encircled: The Fascists have created a tight, 200 km-wide pocket in the Bialystok area, plus a smaller pocket around the town of Lida.

II. Troops in the Lida pocket were able to link up with our supply lines along the Shara river, and even break the isolation of Vilnius in the North. However, they were not able to find a usable road or railway to join the rest of Central Front, so their chances to escape East are almost nil. At most they are to tie German units down in a glorious sacrifice for preserving the Soviet people.

III. The Byalistok pocket has feverishly attempted to break the pocket linking up with the Lida troops, but was barely contained by a tread. Our orders to them is to spread in the woods, marshes, etc. and stand there killing as many Fascists as possible, then scatter to form partisan troops.

IV. The enemy has reached as far as Smolevitchi, 40 km passed Minsk by the North. The enemy was not able to close the pocket behind Minsk, which is still holding with paths to escape the city. However, they control the vicinities of the city, and only 100th Rifle Division can escape the city far enough to maybe escape utter destruction. We request permission to evacuate it at once, to help setup the first line of defence as per the approved plan, or they are ordered to hold the city at all costs.

V. German forward elements have made a significant thrust through the Prypiat marshes all the way until Luninets. All railroads passing through Luninets are unusable due to enemy presence. We have no choice but to attempt to escape East through the Lyuban woods, except those Divisions, Corps, and HQs East in the marshes than can still use railroads.

VI. General of the Army Dimitrii Pavlov will be sacked. We request that General of the Army Georgii Zhukov be given command of Western Front.

VII. Vitebsk is currently not under immediate threat. We recommend Fortified Regions to be built in Orsha or Mogilev, to help build defensive grounds controlling the access to the Dnepr. We are amenable, however, to build on Vitebsk instead if proper support units are allocated there.

At your request, I will send myself to your disposal to replace Pavlov until we can put things back into order.

June 27th, 1941


We are horrified to report to STAVKA and Comrade Stalin only 12 Divisions and 5 Corps HQs were able to reach our first planned defensive line. This constitues 80% of what still remains available to move towards the Dnepr: 145th is in the marshes by Lyuban, 100th has been ordered to exit Minsk and try their best to join the line with all close roadlines threatened by the Germans, while 108th is effectively trapped inside the city and were ordered to hold at all cost to delay the Germans there.

Meanwhile, trapped in Minsk, the rest of Western Front HQ was ordered to relocate by any means necessary and rejoin outside the city. It is now located in Borisov, where for his abject incompetence General Pavlov was personally delivered his dishonorable discharge... from my personal sidearm to his face. We received notice by telegram that General Zhukov is due to arrive today in Mogilev.

Our redeployment of what remains of Western Front is almost complete. Most able units were ordered to go man the landbridge between the Dvina and the Dnepr to immediately start building defenses, plus covering the Upper Dnepr in the sector buy a fortified region in Orsha, manned with sappers, howitzers, and artillery support units to support its defence.

This leaves the Dnper line completely empty between Mogilev and Gomel. Were the Germans to find out that the way to the Dnepr is clear from Minsk it is clear they will immediately direct their available tanks passed Zhlobin - and the Dnepr.

The only troops in vicinity who seems to be able to move and reinforce are Orel's Military District 23rd Mechanised Corps and 222nd Rifle Division, situated in Voronezh and Bryansk. We request STAVKA to order General-Lieutenant Remezov their immediate redeployement to the Dnepr behind Zhlobin, to cover along the river until the neighboring Armies get activated.

(Note: I have taken the liberty to move them myself so that it does not slow down the turn needlessly. If you look at the map it is obvious that they are the only troops with MPs to spend closest to the front, and if not Zhlobin is completely empty. It will remain under Orel MD Command however).

We will NOT request the neighboring STAVKA Armies around Vitebsk, Gomel, Mogilev, and Krichev just yet. Central Front is currently overburdened and we need to establish proper order of battle with what we have. Plus, all those armies are unable to move. We will wait until they get themselves in order of battle in the next few days before discussing options.

Please assure Comrade Stalin of our utmost dedication to the defense of the Motherland. Malingerers, defeatists, and cowards are dealt with mercilessly. Any unwillingness to make the ultimate sacrifice to defend our homes, our families, and the our proletarian, collectivist way of life is absolutely not tolerated. Penalties for expressing such unwillingness, even in body language, are severe.
