I seem to be running into some kind of error during the setup. When I hit the button for "Get Scenario Data," the last thing that comes up is this:

Image

At this point it just hangs and nothing else happens. Any suggestions?

Yes. Check the version of witploadAE.exe that you are using.
- Open a command window.
- "cd" to the directory where you have witploadAE.exe.
- Type "witploadae.exe /?

The output should look like this.
WITP AE data export/import utility - Version 9.0
witploadAE.exe [/d<base directory>] [/s<scenario number>] [/i] [/e] [/x] [/bX]
/i will use directory C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral E
dition\SCEN
/e will export data to CSV(like witpdump)
/b will allow different delimiter (X) than default of ',' as in /b
;
/f will not perform size validation
/x will clear any known errors in weapon device slots on export
Notice the version number in the first line.

Version 9.0 is what you want. Is that what you have?

OK that one is resolved. He had varsion 8.0 of witploadAE.exe instead of 9.0.

This looks great. I just got it working (great instructions!). I also had to get the latest witploadae (ver 9) to get it to run, but after that it went quickly and I'm pulling usable reports. Thanks!

[8D] Happy to hear it!

A planning update. Ran into a Sync Bug on the first turn of our new PBM and was able to see some details which were not clear before. So:

The sync bug has given me another item for Intel Monkey. You can see a sync bug when it happens if you notice that the combatreport.txt file which the turn file writes is different than the one the replay writes. The turn writes over the same file so you have to take note ahead of time. Well it turns out that the combatreport_411207.txt file in the archive folder got written by the replay but did *not* get written over by the turn.

That means when Intel Monkey is told to process new files it can first look at SAVE\combatreport.txt and, if it has the same date inside as SAVE\archive\combatreport_yymmdd.txt has, then the two files can be compared. If the same, OK. If not the same, "Sync Bug!", and Intel Monkey can rename the 'bad' SAVE\archive\combatreport_yymmdd.txt and replace it with the 'good' SAVE\combatreport.txt file.

Once the next turn's replay has been run it is too late because the only 'good' report file is the one the turn file writes in SAVE, the one in SAVE\archive does not get updated and you are stuck with that wrong info for the duration.

This looks like it is going to be very good. Am installing and when I get to "Get Scenario Data" I get an error that says. "Error: Cannot Set Screen Mode"

All seemed ok until then. Any ideas?

Sometimes things said in Nitwit sound very different in English.

Let's work through it. Tell me about your PC, both hardware and OS. If you prefer we can go through email (I am PM'ing you my email address).

This is resolved. He was just pointing to the wrong file (instead of witploadAE.exe).

I do wonder if its the fact it was released when all of you over there were overdosing on Turkey or whether its labelled Beta that has put people off using this?

It is a great tool and not as hard to use as it might look. There is a lot of info available.

I wonder how many actually were able to download and install with no problems, so we don't hear from them. There may be more using it than you think.

May well be the case Bill, I know how much time WITPQS put into this and it is a labour of love, but I wonder if he is a little surprised at how little response there has been.....

I do wish I had a site with download stats, but the free Google Sites wants you to buy Google Analytics for that.

A problem, perhaps simply people saying they were using it on here would give the info?

Was there not a 'poll' option?

I think when it goes through Pre-Beta and Beta then to General release I will do that.

I've gone and taken the plunge. Starting a new PBEM, first in almost two years. I will be using this and looking forward to reaping the benefits. Thanks for the help getting it working and for the tremendous amount of work it has taken to get to this point.

I'm in my first Grand Campaign game ever, as the Allies versus the AI, and I am using this, Combat Reporter and Tracker. They all provide something different which is very helpful for keeping track of everything. This program is not at all hard to set up or use, and is extremely useful and detailed. I did have an initial problem, but WITPQS jumped on it and solved it for me right away. I highly endorse this utility.

I am accumulating a list of bugs and beneficial changes for Intel Monkey. If you have the new Intel Monkey come on and give me your findings, observations, and suggestions. You comments need not be restricted to "not working" or "crashes" as we seem to be pretty well beyond that stage. Tell me what you see that needs or would benefit from changing.

Used your older version of IM, the one that just used SigInt if I remember correctly, and that itself was already very useful. Just downloaded and used your new "V1.0 pre Beta" for the first time, and all I can say is "Wow!". Everything I loved about the legacy version and a lot more. Very, very handy utility. Thank you very much.

The only thing I can think of suggesting (unless this is something already implemented and I'm just missing it) is if there is any way of reporting when an LCU has reached its destination after a move (strat, move or combat), or after a formation or unit is offloaded at its destination port.

Thanks again. [&o]
