The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

Do you have your Air Assistant turned on? Turn that bad boy off
and maybe it'll quit doing that. I've heard this happen to somebody
else and it was his A.A. was turned on.

Also, every time there's an interdiction by the enemy and some of your fighters will rise to fight, those that flew usually go to a "rest" state and they must be reset to AS manually for each interdiction that happens in which some of your planes fly. I asked about this "feature" myself in the past and I don't remember what the answer was but it made sense at the time. I'd like to be able to retreive that answer because I can't think of a good reason for the game engine to do that.

Larry,

This is the first time I have had any issues with the air assistant. I have turned it off and we will see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion.

My turn to get back to back moves. The situation has, obviously, not changed much from the end of my last turn. So, I’m going to continue with the approach from June 25th – tweak and dig in. There will be some minor attacks...

The supply situation remains good for the vast majority of my units – except for those unsupplied in Berlin and in the Western half of Denmark. Also, the shock levels are balancing out.

Reforger is continuing to work as planned, with another division arriving this morning. I’m using the Reforger units to form a large reserve that I will be using in a little bit to launch a counter attack.

I opened up my air planning tab and all the planes are at rest. I’ve switched the air assistant off and will see if this helps. For the most part, I will be using my planes for Air Superiority and Interdiction missions, although I will conduct a couple of airfield attacks. My AH will conduct combat support missions.

As for my attacks, I will conduct a few more in Denmark where both sides are unsupplied. Also, there are some bridging units in the South that would be nice to take out. Finally, near Munich there are a couple of Czech TRs that I would like to hit.

Ian,

One of my best buds spent time in the late 80s as an exchange officer with the BAOR. I do not remember which unit.

I'm thinking that the Brits will play a key role in this battle.

No back to back moves this time. On the 26th, I launched about 10 attacks and the WP launched around the same.

I think my Interdiction missions were pretty successful as well. At least it looked like I was getting lots of attacks in.

Overall, the WP seems to have lots of units, but they have not really broken through anywhere. There are a couple of gaps growing in the WP advance.

The first is near Frankfurt. There is a small chance that I could isolate the forces leading the assault. Further South there is another gap between the push on Nurnberg and Munich. Not much I can do in this area at the moment.

III Corps has now got the better part of three divisions in Germany. Most of them are NW of Frankfurt. Right now, I want to hold them out of the battle. If they were a little closer to the first gap they would be going through it. But, for the moment, they will remain in reserve.

The air battle continues. I think that I’m slowly winning air superiority. I will try to monitor each battle to see what the WP air force is up to and how effective it is.

The battles for Iceland and Norway have commenced. It will be interesting to see how this affects the battle in Germany.

A chance to hit back.

The 8th Guards Army continues to push SW towards Frankfurt, with the 1st Guards Tank Army to its Left (South). A gap between them and the 3rd GDR Army to the North has been getting bigger. The area in red is mainly HQ and artillery units.

I’m really tempted to launch a counter attack in this area. I could use some of my airborne units to grab the area behind the main push, reducing the flow of supplies and preventing an easy retreat option.

I could then attack the lead elements from all sides. If done right, the WP would either have to pull forces from farther South to try and release the pressure, bring their Berlin reinforcements here or hope that the units hold on.

If I was successful, this would set the conditions for a counter attack by III Corps that could go North or South to roll up the WP line. III Corps could also go East towards Berlin.

I’m going to think on this one...

This is an interesting area. There are some really good opportunities to hit back against the WP advance.

The main WP push seem to be North of Nurnberg along the red line. The 8th Guards Army and the 1st Gds Tk Army are pushing hard to get West. Both Armies have lots of units that are worn out, but they have enough units in the green that they can still do a lot of damage.

South of Nurnberg, the elements of two Czech Armies are having trouble maintaining a good line. A gap to the East of Nurnberg continues to exist. Then there is another hole for about 80K before the Czech units pushing on Munich. This group is now unsupplied – according to my Int guys.

They are also in a difficult position with a neutral Austria to their South and the Danube river to the East. I would love to trap and destroy them.

To the East, in the area around Prague some more reinforcements are enroute. I think that they will head towards Nurnberg, but they could head South as well.

I do not have the forces to take advantage of the gap to the East of Nurnberg, which is too bad. However, I do have enough forces in place to do damage to the Czech units in the South, so I will concentrate my attacks in that area today.

Elsewhere in this sector I will tweak and entrench my defence

Back to this opportunity.

All day I have been thinking of this battle. I considered having my front line units switch their loss tolerance to minimize losses. Then when attacked they would hopefully pull back and make this hole even bigger.

However, in the end III Corps is not quite ready to exploit this opening. If I attack now, I run into the chance that the WP caps my attack. Also, I think that time is on my side at the moment. The WP supply situation is likely deteriorating and mine is getting a little better.

So, I will attack towards the stack topped by the 1-1 unit. Most of the units in this stack are in the red and I want to encourage them to use their supplies up.

Meanwhile, I will move III Corps into position to exploit this gap, if it remains a gap, over the next couple of days.
