RE: Proposed Tournament Important Update

Post by Hellen_slith »

Sweet! Sandy and I just started our game :) I hope that at least one more joins ... cachou is waiting for his pairing. I know that there must be someone out there who will join. Mr. Cross is invited ... but he has to play blindfolded. :) [edit: moved current update to last post]

Tournament Scoring Suggestion

Post by rhinobones »

ORIGINAL: Hellen_slith

revised scoring system:

1/8 point for overwhelming loss
1/4 for significant loss
1/2 for marginal loss
3/4 for a draw
1 point for a marginal victory
1 and 1/2 points for a significant victory
2 points for an overwhelming victory

Was looking at your scoring system and think that using fractions may lead to problems and confusion. Instead, suggest you use something simpler that TOAW already calculates. Use each player’s Net Victory Point Award per game and sum them up for a total tournament score.

Also, be prepared with a tie breaker and a standard award value should a player’s opponent resign from the tournament.

Best of luck and good hunting with your games, RhinoBones

Thanks for the suggestion! Yes, at first I wanted to do it that way. In my pairing tests, it was just too much of a chore pairing rounds 2 / 3 / 4 using that system. I will be using a "Dutch" pairing system. The tournament is Swiss; the pairing system is Dutch.

Using simplified positive values for both wins and losses ensures that everyone will score points above zero and will make pairing easier for me in the subsequent rounds.

The Victory Points / Net Victory Award Points that are assigned by the game may be used as a tie breaker if the Dutch system doesn't apply.

I hope that's okay with all you players!
