IMO, instead of talking about changing a core aspect of the game, why not just defend your roads so you don’t get encircled by cows
Having indestructible herds of herbivores is a "core aspect of the game"? And I guess you're kidding about defending your roads...when you do a militia start, you are very short on troops at the beginning of the game, so it is hardly possible to defend all of your roads, at least if you have any plan to expand your empire beyond a handful of hexes.
So, you are saying your own descision to make the start as hard as possible caused this?
Sounds like it worked.

While I can understand that the Critters can be a bit to hard to kill (or even identify!), not having a starting brigade sounds like your decision.

I've only done militia starts, and i have had no issue dealing with alien creatures, nor has it taken very long to build up to having at least a few regular units. I also suck at wargames, so I'm not sure why you are struggling. My current game I started with militia and easily fought of the creatures. leaving a few militia as far as supply allows from your city spaced about a hex apart tends to work well in preventing incursions. if any do occur you just move most of your forces to attack. You always start with two motorised units I've noticed, so use those to react quickly, and work on building a small recon force. Its easy to get at least one or two quite quickly, even on the most inhospitable of worlds.

So you're saying that unless I want to play like you do, the game should be impossible? And to be clear, I started on militia but the troops which failed to inflict any losses on these creatures for several turns was a brigade of regular troops. A brigade. Could not inflict any losses on a herd of herbivores.

There are different types of alien creatures on Siwa-type planets, so I can only assume you've faced different alien creatures.

In one game I faced solacrabs and bicrabs--difficult to kill, but possible. In the next game I faced some kind of land shark and bear-looking thing. Could not be killed.

No!

I am saying:
"If you go that far out of your way to make the game impossible, it is your own damn fault!"

Let's be nice. He is just disappointed there is no Godzilla in the game that comes in and wrecks your capital.
