Also what happens with 4.0.2 to mods like Kakhi in Flames to counter colors, maps or extra units or unit changes etc?
The changes for version 04.02.00.00 should not affect those mods.

EDIT: the version number was incorrect.

Is it safe now to use the 04.02 beta after the hot patches, and all? I mean, it's a beta, sounds experimental...

If it is, can we go on with games started in previous versions?

Yes, it is reasonably safe by this time. It is been out a while. IIRC, the main reason for the full version number upgrade was a change to a different version of the compiler. For a while, that inevitably caused problems. Those have, we think, all been sorted out by now.
And this version fixes a fair number of bugs in the earlier release.

Yes, you can use it on previous versions. All versions of MWiF are fully backward compatable. Any version of MWiF will run any save made by an earlier version.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

I tried to install KiF mod with this beta. The mod requires replacing 2 CSV files in the Map Data folder. Will that cause a problem with the beta? I'm not sure what the map data files are used for but I seem to recall that there was some update to those files made in a previous release - maybe a 3.x release, so will over-writing them with very old KiF map data .csv files cause a problem? ty.

I've successfully installed the mod. I think I had to reinstall it after last official release (can't remember version)?

My recommendation, and what I did, was to backup of all files to be "replaced". I did this by creating backup folders and moving the files to be replaced in those folders.

Steve, I managed to get 4.02.00.00 to work by doing a complete reinstall. Some things I discovered that may be of help to others.

1. After copying my saved games, I tried reinstalling from the original disk to save on downloads/time. Although I got version 1 of the game, I had trouble updating it, so I ended up downloading MWiF from the My Games page or whatever it's called. This process could be tricky for newbies, because it's in two parts and the installation stops and requests the second part, which you have to extract and tell it where it is.

2. For me, the game only seems to like being in the folder it wants on my C drive. Whilst in ran fine on my F drive, it wouldn't update to 4.02.00.00
Cheers, Neilster

Well, I have two installations, one in my desktop and andother in my laptop for when I travel or need to be away from the room I share with my wife for gaming and work...

In the laptop everything went fine.

So the problem in my desktop need to be related somehow with the changes I had in it, windows new installation, a new SSD now called C:... even though I tried in the new route E:\... and moved the folder to c:\... it seems somehow it may have affected the recognition of the location or the register by the installer.

It did not appear, logically, in the apps record in the new windows, although this was no problem for other games to work.

I am explaining in case someone else has gone through similar matters and this might have affected them.

Edit: New installation and it works now in the desktop too. I really hate reinstalling games because I always miss the CD and cannot find the password going through lots of emails and game boxes (and sometimes they are lost). It was an excellent idea to attach the CD to one of the books and have the Key on it.

I´ve installed the v4.02 without problems but when i try update to MWIF 04 02 01 02 a window tells me that "vclx260.bpl is not found" and "a new installation cocould solve the problem", but after two installations the problem remains.

All the 04.xx.xx.xx versions require installing additional bpl files. The first 04 version has those 10 files.

Steve, I believe he forgot to write it here, although I think he did somewhere else, the problem was that he wasn't unzipping the new exe in the right folder I believe. Just so that you know (he is my opponent in the current game).
