Leeson did tell them. But here is the problem. Having received an explanation some still didn't understand - and who is going to admit to that? Easier to just nod sagely and pretend you know what is going on.

Some did understand the theory - BUT they still didn't join the dots and understand the actual RISK - you know, the thing that every bank has a team of people seeking to mitigate [:)]

I'm not sure many are aware of the precarious position Robinhood occupies. It must be able to pay its customers as they cash in on their trades. Because of the huge trading volume and artificially high values driven by the Reddit traders in these companies, as well as in crypto currencies, over the past few weeks, Robinhood was in danger of insolvency. Temporarily halting the trading gave them the time to raise the needed cash, otherwise they would have been walking down the street to the bankruptcy court on Friday.

I buy what I buy with my debit card. It is linked to actual money. As actual as money ever gets at least. Because money in my bank account is as real as some paper in my hands. Because a dollar is only worth what the government says it is worth. And a gold or silver coin is just a piece of metal until it too is given worth. Real estate, is like a job skill though. It always has worth.

Anyway, I make almost nothing in a month. Well, that is to say my allowance is worth almost nothing. If the government fails, my pension dies, and I'm suddenly either a teacher, or a cabinet maker. Likely a nanny, I haven't been able to work for 25 years.
But I get by. There's some steak in my freezer I got today. I'm not really suffering. But, I don't own a home or a car, nor life insurance, but I also don't have debt. Everything in my apartment is mine. Paid for.

Because I buy what I want. And I don't hoard money. Money is just a tool to get things. I already have the 'things'. All I really require, is a daily meal and a roof over my head. And for that, thousands and thousands of dollars a day, or billions in the bank, it won't make the meal taste much different. And if I own all the romance novels currently written, more money won't make more appear.

I have nothing but scorn for persons seeking sums of money far beyond what a person needs to live.

I have nothing wrong with people wanting more money than what they need to live on. It is how they procure it that makes a difference and then what they do with it.

I don't blame you especially when the person stating that is talking about having steaks saved in the freezer plus excess free money for the hobbies and games . . . [8|]

You guys are funny, you selectively omit that I have neither home, nor car, nor debt. Yeah, I have a steak in the freezer. I'm incredibly wise with my money, all pathetically small sum of it. Now, let's see if you can eat steak with a total sum of 1100.00 bucks Canadian a month.

How is that funny? The other things that you list you do not need to have. Beans and corn or beans and rice make a complete protein. So you don't need to eat steak. You also do not need to have internet capabilities either.

You also do not know what we have or do not have either, do you? Yet you disparage me and you have apparently irritated this other individual with your political observations.

"You also do not know what we have or do not have either, do you? Yet you disparage me"

If calling you funny is disparaging, then your skin is even thinner than mine.

Oh, apologies if I don't quote a massive sized quote. I don't have quite the same obsession with quoting. OMG, they might delete something and then say it was never said. And I'd have no proof it was said. This discussion is nowhere near that important to me :)

Yeah, I don't need steak, I don't need internet, I don't a great many things, like my recent Barbie purchase, ironically, it was the Susan b Anthony one, and her work with the 19th amendment, oh that was a sad day in the US for men :) Or my ME 262 model. I mean, I only need air, water and bare necessities food stuffs and some very plain basic clothing. I don't need wargames of course. None of us do. Was there a point that you were trying to make? I seem to have lost track of it while being a loud hysterical woman :)

How about this for the quote:

I have nothing but scorn for persons seeking sums of money far beyond what a person needs to live.

I merely pointed out that you have things that you do not need to live yet you have scorn for those who may want the finer things in life.

You also pointed out about having steak yet receiving - free - $1100 Canadian per month. That is great that you can do that but again, you do not need steak to live. Especially where you live, fishing should be possible at least part of the year and it appears that you are able to get out and about enough to do that. Not to mention trapping, possibly hunting not to mention gathering of food growing wild.

You state that "We guys are funny" as if I am attempting humor when I am not. That is disparaging and insulting.

There your are, delving into politics again. How was the 19th Amendment a sad day for US men? Women had the right to vote before then, if they chose to meet the requirements plus there were women serving in the US Congress at the time, I do believe. If men did want the 19th amendment to fail, it would have failed as per my understanding of the system of government for the US Federal Government as well as my understanding of changing the US Constitution as well.

I hear worth of real estate (or at least buildings) in New York have gone down and local mayor has bought them for cheap.

You should read your post more carefully. You just told a disabled person, how you think it's great I can afford to eat the occasional steak on my budget. But that I don't require steak. So why am I eating it? Then you proceed to explain how I should get out and hunt and fish and grow crops if I want the good life. Completely forgetting I'm disabled.

You scorn me for enjoying a steak, on my 1100 budget (which has to pay for EVERYTHING eh, rent etc).
I think I should be applauded for having the shopping skill to be able to even think of steak.

I called you 'funny', I'm being polite. I really meant something else.

YOU made this a political rant, all on your own. I mentioned a famous woman Barbie. You proceeded to mansplain for me.

I still have scorn for any person that needs not 1100 bucks, not 11 thousand bucks, not 11 million bucks, but billions of bucks to 'get by' and still wants more. If I had 2000 bucks a month to live on, I'd probably have more than I needed. But that's me, I'm smart with my money. I'd likely still not own a house, not own a car, and I'd probably own the entire Matrix Games catalogue of WW2 titles (I sort of already do).

The good things in life, you know, a mansion that is 90% a waste of space. On enough property to build an entire golf course. More than 3 cars. All costing a lot more than an average car. A yacht of course, and a private jet. Not one article of clothing from anywhere other than elite stores. Electronics, oh the electronics.

I don't have those things, and never will. But I'm ok with that. I don't think I'd want them really. That's because I know my limitations. I'm an expert in knowing my limitations. It shows. Because routinely, a person living on 1100 bucks (Canadian) a month is lucky to eat at all. So my managing means I'm a LOT wiser than the average person.

I have scorn for the wasteful, the excessive, the greedy. Because that is what it is.
I doubt you are any better off than me. And yet here you are defending billionaires right to be billionaires. That's mindboggling.

You clearly can't spell sarcasm, there I just showed you.
You claim I was disparaging.
Calling me out for calling you 'funny' and claiming I disparaged you, that IS funny. It's hilarious.
My goodness, if I were to really attempt to insult you, in a nasty hostile fashion, I think I might cause your head to explode. Then I'd be accused of murder no doubt. I knowingly cause you to drop dead of sudden shock.

Are you married? It seems like you are missing something in your routine. Perhaps you need more fibre?
Oh I hope it's not both.

I can hardly wait to see your wall of quoted text. Try to get the whole post though dear.

A very curious sig line.

I think they are too modest in the first portion.
I think the second line though is worthy. I wonder why it can't apply to me though?
