With the Luftwaffe fighter force diverted to the flanks the VVS is able to make a massive show of force in the center this week. Just in time as the Germans have made a very dangerous attack breaking through three defensive lines and surrounding multiple armies.

With one shock army shattered, one isolated and one in poor shape after retreating, the remaining four shock armies counter-attack the flanks of the enemy salient with massive bomber support. They are joined by pretty much every army on the Moscow front in contact with the enemy. While most attacks fail, at a critical spot east of Vyazma a PzKorps with Italian divisions gives way and shatters. This isolates the three strong PzKorps at the tip of the penetration.

Divisions are shifted around to reinforce the immediate Moscow defenses, hopefully the October rains are on time this year.

9/21/41 Clear
3 Pz korps in the Orel area have been sent north to attack the Soviets flank while establishing contact with the cut off German Pz divisions. This attack could have devastating results if follow up Pz korps have not secured critical areas.

The Luftwaffe and the VVS are in fierce and bloody battles. The luftwaffe bombed 2 soviet airfields but the bulk of her bomber force was used to soften up soviet ground troops

The bulk of the VVS heads back to Siberia for a well-deserved rest and the troops in the Rzhev-Vyazma area are pulled back into the Moscow defenses. New shock armies are deployed into the last fortified lines before the city. A desperate breakout attempt by units encircled near Vyazma encounters weak Rumanian units that had followed the German armored attack from Orel this week and unexpectedly succeeds. We will see if any troops manage to escape across the Oka river next week.

The Leningrad and Rostov fronts have been quiet lately. Axis forces are approaching Tula and Voronezh.

Last week germany attacked a critical hex with the objective of cutting off soviet troops but attacking and winning the battle of a hex does not give you control of the hex. This allowed all Soviet troops to retreat and avoid encirclement. A big pill to swallow for such a small error.

Yes the same thing happened to me the turn before when attacking the PzKorps SE of Rzhev. It retreated east but didn't lose supply the next turn. Static attacks don't shift control apparently.

Soviet meteorologists predict heavy rains and the beginning of the rasputitsa season next week. The shock army that had broken out last week took heavy losses but managed to retreat across the Oka to safety. A second army that was following behind was not so lucky and had to surrender. The front was otherwise quiet, only minor positional adjustments to report.

Nothing to report as both sides are stuck in the mud. The rain is expected to continue next week too.

09/11/41 Snow.

AGN & AGC

Germany is quite confident it has the forces to reach the gates of Moscow but due to the lack of winter uniforms taking the city is another matter.
Germany has placed her Pz divisions in reserve and wait for winter supplies to reach the front before attacking.

AGS

3 Pz divisions have moved in the direction of Rostov and has only encountered light resistance. The city should fall next week.

The Soviets got really lucky with the weather in this game. First an extended rainy season and now blizzard in mid-November. The Axis have played very skillfully so it's a shame that random events (partisan attack, extended bad weather) have taken away 4-5 turns from the "normal" campaign season.

16/11/41 Blizzard

Germany is in full retreat on all fronts.

Germany was toying with the idea of creating armored traps to counter attack the advancing Soviets but this plan was cancelled as its success was to weather dependent.

23/11/41 Snow

German troops halt there retreat and counter attack the pursuing Soviets.

The lack of German armor and the increasing number of Soviet armor formations committed against AGC is a major concern.

The Germans have established strong defensive lines for the winter. The Soviets tried to approach them during the brief spell of blizzard in mid-November but the weather turned to snow and we got pushed back with multiple shatters and heavy losses. A second, more cautious advance is ordered in anticipation of the blizzard resuming next week.

The blizzard is here, hopefully to stay for a while. VVS activity in the Leningrad area identifies two empty PzKorps. A general advance is ordered except for the Kursk area where the Germans have attacked through the blizzard with heavy Luftwaffe support and pushed back two armies with heavy loss. Some more empty korps are encountered particularly in the Vyazma area where a massive preplanned attack falls flat. Heavy resistance is encountered in the Pskov and Stalino areas.

14/12/1941 Blizzard.

The effects of the mid November blizzard is starting to become clearer now.

The Soviets are getting a head start converting there railways. This will reduce the effectiveness of the well prepared German defensive position. The defensive positions are now too close to the front. The Soviets will be able to assault the German defensive lines earlier and with a much better supplied army.

Germany options are as follows. Hold ground and suffer very high casualties or give up ground in order to preserve the army.

The next 2 months will be very critical for Germany.

Velikiye Luki is liberated this week but Bryansk and Stalino hold against strong attacks. Small advances along the rest of the front with a combination of elaborate attacks on abandoned positions and bloody ambushes by undiscovered korps.

Soviet meteorologists bring good news for the Axis, next week will be muddy.

28/12/41 Blizzard

The Soviets launched a massive attack last week along the entire front supported by the VVS. Germany was mistaken to expect only light soviet activity in the mud and has suffered very high losses in areas where troops were in transition.

Expecting the Soviets to have low supplies and being disorganized after there offensive Germany counter attack very aggressively pushing back the Soviets along the entire front.

Losses
Axis/USSR
802/4557 Squads
5/236 Armor
59/1027 Guns
354/560 A/C

Almost all Soviet attacks fail this week except for the one on Bryansk. The Germans seem to have found the recipe to fighting well in blizzard. Only Soviet units have shattered during winter so far.

4/1/42 Blizzard

German attacked along the entire front again this week.

A counter attack was launched between Kharkov and Stalino and it was repulsed.

A attack was launched in the Kursk area and was repulsed once again.

A counter attack was launched in the Brynask area retreating the defenders.

A attack was launched in the Smolensk area retreating the defenders.

2 attacks launched in the Pskov area retreating 2 armies.

The Soviets supply lines are starting to reach the German front lines. We expect the Soviets will be able to muster greater strength as every week passes while our own positions are lacking entrenchment, manpower, supplies and materials.
