If you break down, you failed. That is top sport.
You are incorrect. Sportsmanship is what counts more than winning.
Dream on. That may be the case in your mind, but is not what fuels these games.

- it is a major nationalist flag waving opportunity, if it were about the sportsmanship the athletes would compete in their own name, without national flags. That and nationality has become a commodity to contract successful athletes.

Well it is purely US&GB native English speakers thread. They may think they express better with their native language, but from my past experience moderating similar threads it is typically very local now. Problem here I've lost interest Slitherine&Matrix Games long ago these forums are far from international..Still good to see what they they talk about. [:D]

Not sure who all had the chance to see men's 400m hurdle final, but it was pretty epic. These guys are superhuman. It was truly exciting to watch and that's coming from someone who know's next to nothing about or follows T&F.

The Turkish women's volleyball team has been really impressive. Great matches against US(lost 3-2) and RoC(Won 3-2) Playing Korea in the quarter finals tomorrow. Baladin and Boz make some incredible plays.

Dutch runner Sifan Hassan showed what the Olympics are all about when she picked herself up from a fall and fought her way back to victory in a heat of the 1500m.
Hassan hit the deck on the last lap of her race after tripping over an athlete who’d fallen in front of her.
The tumble left her 30m behind the leaders with less than 300m to run, but she got back on her feet and started to run down her competitors, crossing the line in first place.
Her determination won applause from other athletes who were watching day 10 of competition and has been celebrated as one of the great moments of the Tokyo Games.
But the 28-year-old Dutch superwoman was not done with impressing Games watchers yet. She went on from her 1500m heat fall in the morning to win gold in the 5000m final that night.
The 1500m and 5000m are two of three races Hassan is competing in at Tokyo. She will also line up in the 10,000m.
Her never-give-up attitude was a contrast to another big story from the Tokyo Olympic Stadium, where Jamaican star Shericka Jackson appeared to take her 200m heat much too casually.
Jackson won bronze in the women’s 100m final on Saturday night and was also a favourite to get a medal in the 200m.
But she failed to progress to the 200m semi-finals when her half-hearted* effort put her in fourth place in the heat. Only the first three placegetters went through to the semi-final.
She was in third as she approached the finish line but Italian Daila Kaddari pipped her on the line by microseconds.

The 21-year-old finished fourth in her semi, registering a personal best time of 22.56sec.
“That is an outstanding performance,” McAvaney said after calling the race.

Fellow Australian and equestrian legend Andrew Hoy was another whose commitment to the Olympic ideal of giving your best could not be questioned on day 10 of competition.
Hoy, who has competed at eight Olympics, scored a silver medal as part of the Australian team and an individual bronze in showjumping on his horse Vassily De Lassos.
The medals made 62-year-old Hoy Australia’s oldest Olympic medallist and took his Olympic medal tally to three gold, three silvers and a bronze from his eight Games appearances.

A previously unknown from the US, Tamyra Mensah-Stock won the Gold in 68Kg class. She has endeared herself to Americans with her after medal response to a reporters question. What a great spirit she has.😍

After the match, Mensah-Stock, 28, commented on the historic elements of her final with Oborududu.
"I'm like, 'Oh my gosh, look at us representing,' " Mensah-Stock said, according to The Associated Press. "It's so freaking awesome. You're making history, I'm making history. We're making history. So it meant a lot."

Emotions hit hard with win
Mensah-Stock curled her hands into a heart-shaped gesture immediately after her win, smiling and bowing to the small crowd in the Makuhari Messe Hall outside Tokyo. She then hugged her coaches and grabbed a large U.S. flag, which she held high above her head.
Several times on the mat and on the podium, Mensah-Stock broke into tears.
"I'm feeling very happy and I keep trying not to cry, but it keeps happening," she said, according to a release from Team USA. "I just want to go into a dark room and cry, but I'm crying from joy."
