This may be related to the "delay in gameplay" thread in the support forum.

ZOOMIE - I have virtually no clue about Windows. Is it possible, using Visual Studio or other dev tools to see exactly which piece of code is using the CPU at any one point?

My theory is that the problem (and other "lag" type problems) is caused by lower level API calls returning something that confuses the game code and causes it to go into a spin.

P.S. Is it possible for people to attach their dxdiag output as a file rather than copy and pasting?

Here is my situation:

Witp is the active program, but is idle (player order fase). I still uses 90-100% CPU. This is a problem, the fans are going full throttle = to much noise.

Witp runs in the background (ALT-tabbed out). I doesn't use any CPU cycles, as it shouldn't.

This is on a P4 2.8, 1GB system.

*That* is normal. Zoomie and some other folks are saying that Alt-Tab does not bring it to Idle useage.

Not overly concerned about it, just curious the cause. I can launch other apps and they seem to get what they need as whatever is eating CPU in WitP must be doing so at low priority. The only thing I can think of is some kind of low level polling loop or such.

Ok, I had to double-check on my new gaming rig (which is incidentally taken away by my wife). No problem there, no CPU hogging going on. It is running a turn in the background and CPU utilization is jumping between 5-100%.

My old company laptop was (and is still giving) me trouble. It has W2K and a lot of stuff that was installed by the support techies. In there WitP is taking all CPU it can get it's hands on.

Luckily I have a new laptop sitting at the office. Of course, unauthorized SW is prohibited :)
