Note, above, the road leading more-or-less directly to our objective, and how our commander has completely ignored it...

Here's another. See how the commander has ignored the road that takes him straight to where he wants to go, and selected a route involved two stretches of trail and some clear terrain. Odd.

Did you recalc the Terrain tables on your new maps? And did you recalc the Visibility tables too?

I believe I did that. :D

Anyway, it looks like that is the problem. So I might have forget to do it after I made few changes to map. I made roads first and added other later, so this seems little odd anyway. Mark Weston, you can open map editor and choose 'recalc the paths/terran' etc. and save the map. I will do some test tomorrow after I finish my work.
