My thanks to Michaelm for geting Gilligan and I going again. He performed some sort of surgery on our save file and recovered some "wasted" pilot slots. I fear we'll soon use them up and the arrival of even more air groups will put us back in the same situation. So I second Gilligans's plea for some assistance from Matrix in getting a more general and complete fix to this problem.

Now I know that everyone who has a problem with their game would like to see it resolved so that they can get on with their fun. There are some issues with this game that we have been able to find work-arounds for and continue with little or no diminishment of the enjoyment that this game brings. I would offer that in this instance it may be that all full OOB/full scenario games are at risk for for this issue. So even if you are not yet to 1944 you will be and may well have a game breaking situation to deal with.

Pilots with 5 or more kills will stay on the top pilot list when KIA, WIA or MIA. Pilots with 4 or less kills will dissapear when KIA and MIA. I'm not sure if they go away when WIA.

Also, if you have too many groups (allied and japanese) to fill with 30k pilots, did you consider disbanding some air groups? The game doesn't require you to disband groups, but a lot of your airgroups were historically disbanded long before the end of the war.

Just something to consider.

Yes, I realize that disbanding is an option but the magnitude of the problem may be greater than I would like to try to solve with this method. I also realize that the Japanese player (that would be me in this case) has another way of permantly disbanding units (shhhhhhh, don't say the k-word). This other method makes those units which might not seem as useful potentially quite valuable. We have not entered this phase in our game and I wouldn't like the timetable for it to be driven by these pilot table shortages. We are talking reality however, or at least reality+WITP, so I may not get my druthers.
