[:D][:D][:D] If they did, I'd doubt they'd post it.[;)]

Are they saying Grant is a better general than Rommel? At least Rommel wasn't a drunkard [:D]

Hi, Did you foregt that Grant won. Grant captured enemy armies. And Grant was never drunk during a battle. (And he was not at home when the enemy launched the most important battle of the war)

Hehe, quite true. I just always thought Sherman was a better leader than Grant. Though, Grant was certainly better than McClellan or Meade.

Grant won, Rommel lost. Is losing better than winning?

and I have a lovely quote for you:

Not saying that loosing is better than winning. There is just something about Grant I don't like. Not saying he was a bad general, far from it.

Can we settle for this then: Rommel was better than MacArthur? [:D]

Hi, Sherman was one of Grants Generals. He followed Grants orders. Meade was one of Grants Generals he followed Grants orders. Grant did not command the AOP he commanded all Union Armies. Sherman marching through Georgia was Grant.
Meade versus Lee in Virginia in 64-65 was Grant. Everyone focus on Virginia and forgets Grant had the AOP pinning the ANV so it could not detach forces to march against Sherman while Sherman had the mobile mission to rip the guts out of the South. It was not Grant in VA and Sherman in Ga the whole war was Grants and his solution was what ended the war finally in Union victory. To say Grant was a butcher in Virginia and Sherman was better because he lost fewer men is to ignore the fact that it was all one operation.

Ulysses S. Grant
You scored 62 Wisdom, 57 Tactics, 67 Guts, and 59 Ruthlessness!
Like you, Grant went about the distasteful business of war realistically and grimly. His courage as a commander of forces and his powers of organization and administration made him the outstanding Northern general. Grant, though, had no problem throwing away lives on huge seiges of heavily defended positions. At times, Union casualties under Grant were over double that of the Confederacy. However, Grant was notably wise in supporting good commanders, especially Sheridan , William T. Sherman , and George H. Thomas. Made a full general in 1866, he was the first U.S. citizen to hold that rank.

My test tracked 4 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender:

You scored higher than 16% on Wisdom

You scored higher than 33% on Tactics

You scored higher than 66% on Guts

You scored higher than 83% on Ruthlessness

Not much on tactics but I am brave and very ruthless. [:D]

General Custer

You scored 58 Wisdom, 57 Tactics, 65 Guts, and 55 Ruthlessness!

You're reckless... a little like Custer. Make sure you know what you're up against before you charge into battle. But, that being said, Custer was one of the more successful generals of his day. He was a graduate of West Point and one of the more senior officers in the Union army. Custer had a distinguished career until his untimely demise at Little Bighorn.

I don't know if I agree with this...

Actually Custer was only a BREVET Major General (though my living near Monroe, MI that may be sacrilege since he was raised there) and when he died at the Little Big Horn was only a Lieutenant Colonel.

Yet another...

Scipio
You scored 75 Wisdom, 78 Tactics, 45 Guts, and 57 Ruthlessness!

You scored higher than 93% on Wisdom
You scored higher than 75% on Tactics
You scored higher than 9% on Guts
You scored higher than 78% on Ruthlessness

I've no guts which is true (too many "I care about my men" answers). Good results on wisdom and tactics I find encouraging [;)]

To say Grant was a butcher in Virginia and Sherman was better because he lost fewer men is to ignore the fact that it was all one operation.

Before Lee met Grant, Lee was a master of moving troops from Virginia to the west. When Grant started his CAMPAIGN against Lee he prevented Lee from being able to reinforce other Confederate forces.

After the Battle of the Wilderness the Union army was demoralized because they knew they had been once again beat by Lee (which they had) but when they were marching back along roads they retreated on many times before someone realized that at an intersection they had turned SOUTH and not NORTH and morale skyrocketed - they finally had a general who wasn't afraid of Lee. Unlike other Union Generals Grant thought in terms of a campaign instead of winning in just one battle. He lost at the Wilderness and Spotsylvania and other places in Virginia but the end result of his campaign was Lee's surrender at Appomatox Courthouse.

Grant simply fought what has become the American style of warfare - attrition. He knew he could make good on his casualties whereas Lee couldn't. Brutal, but then again so is war which is why war is something which should be avoided at all costs.

Aaah interesting..

King Fahd of Saudi Arabia.
You scored 43 Wisdom, 59 Tactics, 58 Guts, and 49 Ruthlessness!
You are most like King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. You are ruthless and you live your life by the book. Little independent thinking, and lots of severed body parts for thinking it.

A son of Ibn Saud , the founder of Saudi Arabia, Fahd served as interior minister and was named crown prince by his half-brother King Khalid. He was a powerful shaper of Saudi foreign and domestic policy under Khalid, on whose death (1982) he succeeded to the throne. Fahd encouraged limited modernization of Saudi Arabia, but the new constitution that established an appointed consultative national council left unchanged the royal family's control of the government. As a result of his prolonged illness following a 1995 stroke, de facto authority rests with Crown Prince Abdullah, his half-brother.
"A good plan executed today is better than a perfect plan executed at some indefinite point in the future."

- General George Patton Jr

Probably Hannibal is not in the list to pick up the (AAR-) fight with all you Scipios. Neither seems Monty to stand up against us Rommels.

But maybe our Sitting Bull can teach the various Custers another couple of lessons [:D]
