The only way I ever got it to run (this was CMAK, but it sounds like the fix for BB is similar) was to go in to my Nvidia control panel and turn off anti-aliasing for the game. It worked after that, but looked like Hell, and quite jumpy.

Personally, I don't understand why, rather than trying to stitch a campaign element to a game that wasn't originally designed with one in mind (how is this going to work, anyway? Either they're going to have to make a rebuilt CMBB to work with this, in which case you'll have to buy the new version of the base game, or they're going to jury rig the campaign element on to the existing game), why didn't they just announce that the WW2 series using their CMx2 engine) would all have a campaign element out of the box, and build it that way? I realize they have a large, existi9ng fanbase, but chances are, the vast majority of those people are going to pick up the WW2 CMx2 games anyway.

Many people have pointed this out, including myself.

Battlefront are a talented development team, but they do have their heads so far up their arses that hearing sense is impossible.

You would have thought that after the roasting CMSF recieved at the hands of critics and gamers alike, they would have taken stock of their situation and reappraised their design philosophy.

When BF.C/BTS decides they're going to do something a certain way then that's it and people who differ are "just wrong". I could go into the whys and wherefores of it as regards the personalities involved but suffice it to say they make their decisions and then pretty much just roll on down that track ignoring all other paths.

It was a strength initially when they made many correct determinations about what would and wouldn't work but when, inevitably, they made some poor decisions that same unwavering surety has served them poorly.

Well, that's that settled then.

Luckily I avoided Vista because I still enjoy CMBB and CMAK. For nostalgia I tried to get CMBO to run the other day (I actually prefer the look of the game in some ways, especially the "shock-waves") and only achieved it by ignoring Battlefront's dire warning about running it in compatibility mode. I tried what they suggested and updated everything but it always crashes on start-up. Under Windows 2000 compatibility it runs fine except you can't save scenario designs.

It's a blast to play it again, loading up with artillery because artillery is too strong in the game but the lack of fire arcs is annoying. I used to like modifying a normally balanced scenario by giving one side a ludicrous amount of massive artillery (like the 14" naval rifles when they're available), just to laugh at what they do to a normally useful enemy position. Kaboom! Kaboom!

I might try the anti-aliasing trick to get it running properly without compatibility mode. Anybody know if there is a mod to get the shock-waves in CMBB and CMAK and perhaps have a link?

If such a modification exists, they would have it at CMMODS. You do have to sign up and get an account, but after that, it's no hassle, and the quanityt of material they have is ridiculous.

Thanks AB. I found that site and have already tried a few things including a mod that has improved the look of muzzle blasts and explosions quite a bit.

1. Didn't they release the source code of Combat Mission Campaign?
2. Would modern AI be able to do anything with it?
