Yeees... It IS rectangular, but I think you'll be able to find ample historical evidence that the proper and most efficient shape was octagonal.

historical evidence clearly indicates that the octagonal fuel tank was used only in a few of the pre-production models. The vast majority of Zero gas tank models used was the model 286-B "Kiki-sanwan" which roughly translates as "gota match?" These were rectangular shaped gas tanks.
