War Bulletin 7/1/26:

The patrol craft WSC 13 was sunk off Aparri by US subs.

Nukufetau island falls to Imperial Marines.

Butuan falls to Imperial Marines. The only areas still under allied control in the Philippines is the City of Manila, the fortress at Bataan, Lamon Bay, and the territory where the Philippino Reserve division is trapped.

Heavy fighting at Manila. The 3rd Army may be forced to bring in additional reinforcements. The Imperial Council is looking closely at the situation. There are two divisons preparing for a different operation on Formossa that could be used.

War Bulletin 7/2/26:

Fighting continues at Manila as the 3rd Army engages in vicious house to house fighting. So far no US troops have been captured. They all seem to die in place. There have been significant civilian casaulties. This is a direct result of the US refusing to bow to the inevitable and surrender.

A US cruiser is heavily damaged as it tries to run the blockade off Manila Bay.

War Bulletin 7/5/26:

The blockading TF sorties into Manila Bay to destroy the remaining Allied ships. (I left the TF on patrol react 6. Well it reacted to the Allied ships in Manila Bay - right past the Bataan guns[:@] Could have been worse I guess)

Near Kwajalein the Imperial Navy sub patrol line detected the presence of a US battle squadron. It is unknown what the Allied intentions are.

The 3rd Army is marching on Lamon Bay to finish off the main allied force. A smaller force will be marching on Bataan.

War Bulletin 7/7/26:

US submarines have gotten very efficient in the past day or so. A tanker sunk at Pescadores and a cargo vessel damaged at Kwajalein. Also the US scored a good ASW hit on sub No. 36 at Midway.

The Imperial Navy has decided to look at the lessons learned from the Great War and put considerable resources towards ASW operations. The US navy will be able to use the ports in China to maintain subs in the South China Sea, Yellow and Sea of Japan.

The Imperial Council has deemed an operation to take Shang Hai would be too costly both politically and militarily.

The Soviet Union announced today their demand for the return of Okha-Sakalin. The Imperial Council has entered into negotiations about the eventual return of this key resource center.

Well that is a complicated answer.

1. Even as a kid I was interested in the Aleutian Island Campaign in WWII. Really very interesting campaign. In my two WITP games I have had some major battles here.

2. In game terms as the Allies I would like to use the Aleutian Islands to raid into the Sea of Japan and along the Japanese Coast. Kiska or Attu or even Amchikita Island makes for a good sub base and base for commerce raiders.

3. In game terms as the Japanese, I want to secure my northern flank and the Aleutians can be used as a sub base and commerce raiding base to interdict the convoys between the West Coast and Pearl/Midway.

I think both WITP and WPO do not accurately portray the difficulties of operating in this theatre, so the bases are probably more useful than they would be in real life. But it is still fun.[:D]
