The funniest thing in Poland is that there is no left-wing. Even SLD (Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej - Alliance of Democratic Left - with main member of alliance SdRP as inheritant of Polish United Workers Party, ie. Communists) is acting as a liberal center.
Wish we had the same problem. [:@][:@] F*** commies sold the media to leftist media groups at quarter price just some months before the change in 1990. Not to mention our commies were always first international second hungarian as opposed to czech and polish leaders. Besides the so called goulash communism (and cuz we were the funniest barack in the socialist lager ie we were more free than the other eastern clock countries)thes facts made them less hated. So when the change came they were not banned from politics. It has gone so far that after 4 years of unsuccesful governing they were reelected (if only by small margin) cuz the all medium was loud how good we live and how succesful they are. Stupid people believed them.
The situation is so bad, that the new/old millionare turned ex commie youith leader MP had to admit that 'I was not telling the WHOLE truth about the countries situation". Well believe me you have lost nothing wit no left. Todays news. The biggesr entrepeneur suggested the complete change of the political elite revolution that is.
BTW we will have euro only in 2012-14 instead of 2010 cuz they are so succesful at running our country. Well after rumanians and bulgraians. What an achievement.
More to come from the first revolution in the 21st century.
All problems are that in Poland there is no middle class. Some are enormously rich, rest are poor.
Same here.

Well, best example of poor governing and unhapinnes of nation is fact that in case of parliment elections reelection has yet to happen. First elections won right-wing, next so called left-wing, next right-wing, and so on... Now it's time of right-wing, and I am sure that in next elections left-wing will take majority of seats.
In Poland also communists were not banned from politics. Famous "thick line policy" - forgetting what was before. Probably because that many of those who take the power after 1989 were earlier agents of regime.
In Poland we can't actually see difference between commies or oppositionists from times before 1989. They are generally the same. You in Hungary at least have a chance for "good guys" win elections - here we simply don't have a "good guys".

RE: OT: You talk about nepotisim........
they won elections by promising things that can't be done and they are strongly backward looking with no idea where to lead country![]()
That is the system called modern democracy:
1) People promising things that can be done will have less voices than people promising things things that can't be done.
2) For most people, there was in the past an "happier time", so backward looking is probably the best thing to win voices.
3) The French King Louis XIV (who built Versailles), or one of his ministers, had as motto: "rule is foresee". The modern translation of it is: "rule is manage". It seems to me that no actual government is caring about what will happen after the next elections, they are planning the next elections only.
By the way people having an idea where to lead country try to finds means to, that is things that can be done, and are out because of the first sentence.

Well the only good guy is Viktor Orban, a person whom Bush Jr has remembered without any aid of one of his protocol guys. The rest is mostly "oppositionists" as you say. Problem is that """"thanks """" to the lesftist media majority (3 out of 3 national TV channels are in DECLARED IN commie hands, 4 out of 5 daily newspaprers ditto) he is presented as a dcitator threat to the DEMOCRACY. Well now the Freely and "democratily" -see above lying about budget deficit and stufff- elected MP has created 3 new super ministries which are run by his own men, not by the 'normal' ministers chosen from the ruling partie's members. What a democracy!
The every day citizen voted against Mr. Orban cut ' he is a dictator-to-be' told by them by all media. Now they have it! Commies' first thing was to double all members' of the parliaments saalry (against the will of the 'good guys'). In the same time Hungary faces its biggest economical crisis in 16 yrs so drastic steps has been made, to squeeze money from the population.
US/other EU citizens take note:
Our tax on salaries is 38% +5% obligatory state pension fund, +2% social security tax.
VAT is 20% almost flat (medicins and some similar things are 10). Petrol is 1.1 Euro PER LITER. Electricity, heating, internet, drinking water ALL at european levels. Almost all taxes are the highest or on the second place in EU. Average salary is lowest in the EU (some one third of the EU average). So even if I dont like the current citizen of the White House, even if there is a lawyer surplus, evn if whatever put your hands together and thank God, or your good fortune or whatever you believe in that you live there! And not here!
The average citizen is so short sighted that the 50th anniversary of the 1956 revolution (of which all hungarians are proud of) will be celebrated by f****ng communists!
Polish guys
Imagine that the son-in-law of Wojchiech Jaruzelski will keep the celebrating speech on the anniversary of the Gdansk uprising. Which BTW started our rebellion! Int it unimaginable for you?
Well here itis reality! Cuz the current MP is the son-in-law of the second most important hungarian commie! One more thing this a***le has said TWICE that 'who does not like it here can go away!'
So dont worry mdiehl there are millions like you, with similar mental capacities!

RE: OT: You talk about nepotisim........
Well to be honest if i had to chose between Jaruzelski and Kczynski or their Kin i chose Jaruzelski becouse he had the ball's to grab deamn Miners and other uneducated workers by the ball's , who just want more and more money making their protests turn to Riot after they empty all the licker stores around and destroy my city... and the goverment is afraid of them...[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@] they throw rocks or bricks wounding policmen... this is nonsense of course every one has a right to protest but to a peacefoul protest and not to Riot... those morons destroyed the PRL and they fought it will be the same as then but different , they can't understand that uneducated worker can be easly replaced... Any way it is not know what could happen if Jaruzelski would not declare Martial Law... maybe we would have WP forces rolling into Poland... Well Honecker was eager to send his troops in... Communism was bad really bad but most people still think it should be like then were every one had work and there was a saying "Czy sie stoi czy sie Lezy 2000 tys sie nalezy" transleted " Eiter you stand or either you lay you will get 2000 zl" this was refering that most of the Workers in Communism usualy didn't do anything at work and they still get their salery and they could not be thrown out od work... most polish workers are lazy and drink to much in work and after it... off course things are changing a bit but to slow...!!!
As for the Miners they recived so much money from the Budget that no one exacly know how much... they are erning 4000 zl per month while a doctror earns 1600 zl they are allowed to go on early retirement and so on... and now when those mines made some profit those F*****s protested and geain large share of the Profit instead giving back to the Budget to repay what the got!!!!!

Not mentioning about that only a few years ago Poland exported coal at dumping prices! This is completely ridiculous! I know that form my father - a harbour worker, who worked on loading coal onto ships.
When Polish shipyard industry was falling (they needed only some 10% money of what was pumped into coal mining), Poland was giving theire coal almost for free...

Maybe I should not take part in that nice dicussion as I haven't been in Poland for the last 5 years but I can not help the, so polish, urge to voice my own opinion. Of caurse I am for and even against whatever has been said here [8D]
Let's not exaggerate. You may be against PiS for some reason, I may be for another, but it is just overstatement. Poland had, has and probably will have bad press for whatever reason (I guess it is nice to have punchbag to divert attention from own problems). It does not need its own citizens inventing fantasy stories.
Wholeheartedly agree. But than again, is it any surprise? I wish I knew any party in Poland, or elsewhere, that would not promise the moon. I am pesimist - there is no difference between so called left and so called right. There are artificial burning points (like eg attitude to Church, gay marriage, communists hunting, nazists hunting etc.) but in general noone has guts to do major overhaul. The country just drifts, hopefully towards safe port, which is made easier because of the EU money. As major overhaul I do not consider PiS activities - they already shuttered their credibility and stained their supposed integrity by alliances with such as AL. They do not change the system, they only change actors.
It is pretty funny how hard church is criticized in Poland (not only now but throughout the ages), and yet everyone else in the world is thinking Pole = Catholic. I am also polish catholic (read = baptised pagan [8D]). It is even funnier that hearing people bash church so much I start defending it. Are we suicidal that we try so hard to burn the roots of our culture?
Do not know about UK. At first I thought US is a normal country too. After few years I see the grass is not as green as it seemed at the beginning. What's more seeing how work is organized at some companies, the work ethic, some of the problems you encounter when having to deal with beaurocracy, political corectness, propaganda flowing from each tv channel, it all resembles communist experience. Miraculously the show goes on. Sure it is much better than Eastern Europe - more money and easier life, but not the same as it was 10 years back from what I heard.
Hopefully I will be back for few weeks this September and see polish mess first hand - first real holiday after 3 years [&o] (thanks MR GOD). I have to take rest from the boredom and brainlessness of the corporate life. I remember my university school teacher saying the life in US is slow - couldn't imagine than. Now I know how true she was.
Soon they will lock down in the Camps every one that thinks different as they and is not a catholic

Przemcio I don't really care about ideology / religion
if sb's faith is strong he can spend his time and wealth this way
i'm interested in strong cabinet with professionals supporting it in parliament
Goverment able to solve main economical problems and give good conditions for country in long run
hunting ex communists 16 years after its fall is not main polish problem i recognize as they are not a threat to the democratic system. I'd like to see economy expanding with fiscal policy easing as it is only way to lower unemployment and make people satisfied
i hate when sb loose time of electors and solve only popularity problems ( buying certain social groups with state money) and it is problem in last 8-10 years and escalates
I sign it with all my four legs [&o]

Church criticized in Poland? No way! Especially in public. Note that adjective "catholic" is now more often used than "democratic" when someone is trying to describe what Poland is. I am not trying to burn roots of our culture - I am against black mafia - organization trying get as many power and money as they could. Their behaviour has nothing with culture.
