I noticed at least two units in the Axis army that have the same color as the Soviets... do these represent collaborators/defectors?

Those guys represent those Russian speaking Germans that wear Russian uniforms and sneak around getting into Russian mess halls finding out all the good stuff and reporting back to their higher higher all the Russian intentions, conditions, morale, etc. Spies in short. I think.

As I understand it the Russians had some German speaking dudes as well, just not as many.

I got four combat rounds this time ( turn 10 ) and not much changed however.  I'm running into the Soviet front lines and it looks like we're going to have some back-and-forth kinds of battles now.  Here's a minimap view of the first 10 turns:

It's round 2 and here's the front lines.  Not much should change from here on out since we're in the back and forth battles phase:

Here's a list of some of the Axis losses so far ( you'll have to look on my opponents AAR site for the Soviet losses since I don't have that data ):

Not much changed this turn.  I gained one hex in the Odessa area but other than that it's just more of the same.  Here's the minimap view of turns 1 thru 12 to prove that nothing remarkable happened:

Here's the entire front lines.  It looks pretty solid to me.  No weaknesses anywhere that I can see.  This is as the beginning of Axis turn 14:
