Hi Rob,

At this point in the game I think it's an Amphibious Corps HQ, not an Amph Force HQ that you have. Only the latter gives the disruption bonus. IIRC, the first arrives in July or so 43. The Amph Corps HQ is simply another Corps HQ with a fancy name. :) Still useful, though.

Also, it's an AGC which loads them, not an AGP. The first AGC arrives roughly Aug/Sep 43.

Don't worry too much about Attu. But if he coming for the whole Aleutians than strike him hard there or in the Solomons. Greedy as I'am I would say that strike him hard in both places! [:D]

Whoops my bad , i'd forgotten i;d connverted a few AK's into PT boat tenders .. thought they were HQ ships [:-]

And yes your right its the Amphibious corps HQ .. which is abbreviated to Amphib ??? so thats a confusing one. Oh well i'll unlead the aussie commanders on the beach too.

one quick snapshot .. nice canadians

CV cover confirmed today near attu is. so time to prepare invasion sumatra etc. PM op is a few days maybe 2 weeks away right now. solomons on hold as the dot bases are taking forever to expand.

Baker island on the way with 1 ! raider batallion the 2 others didnt load for some reason ??. anyway backup plan .. AP's with 25th division loading . AK's with supply and engineers loading up too. 1st wave is throwaway LCI's etc. IF it looks weak i'll para drop in when the div hits the beach. Already sent in MSW to check for mines and none found thankfully.

Attu i think will hold . he's short on assault points, not even 1-1 yet and im in forts . hehe.

anyway february continues and main action centered on Andaman island as half hearted japanese bombing raids did noting of note apart from allow my P40's to massacre some zeros.

Day Air attack on 47th USA Engineer Regiment, at 23,34

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 9
A6M3a Zero x 6
Ki-48 Lily x 17
Ki-46-III Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 39

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 6 destroyed
A6M3a Zero: 6 destroyed
Ki-48 Lily: 6 destroyed, 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

day 2

Day Air attack on 221 RAF Base Force, at 23,34

A6M3a Zero x 5
Ki-48 Lily x 15
Ki-46-III Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
P-40E Warhawk x 39

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 6 destroyed
A6M3a Zero: 5 destroyed
Ki-48 Lily: 2 destroyed, 8 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

only 1 allied pilot lost for 23 zeros ! must be a game record .. they are
well experienced though at late 70's which for allied fighters is great.

the BB kongo was the only succesful air attack from attu island . SS pickerel
put a fish into an AP, while b26's downed a zero for one of thier own. I do like the
B model with all the nice guns [;)]. Liberators failed to fly due to blizzard weather
conditions.

Chinas/japans resources got bombed and f5 Recon aircraft have already proved thier worth noticing
that hes failed to put fighters over his oil facility in china ! .. rest for 2 days then hit it nice and fresh in 2 days time. [:D]. I love more F5 units .. allies are so down on recon planes
in stock its daft.

Operation Earl Grey is getting more and more complex as i decide on who goes where etc and i have
found i had overcompensated in infantry so maybe dual landings in sumatra with a small force hitting
the West coast too ( well in range of palembang) while the main one hits sabang. thoughts?

I'm also going to crate up hurricanes to offload at sabang when taken as they cant fly here.
I have a selection of beaufighters in ceylon which will transfer in quick for CAP vs non escorted
nell raids.

Kongo! Do I hear a yell coming all the way from Tokyo? [;)]

You'll need a lot of engineers to build up one of those West Sumatra bases, and it'll take a lot of time - at least in CHS, maybe the SPS are different in stock? Anyway, are you sure you can cover two invasion TFs at once? Maybe you should wait until you are firmly established at Sabang (and see how much fire you draw) before launching that second invasion. Some Inf LCUs in reserve might come in handy should he decide to react.

I like this axis of attack, it puts a lot of pressure on Singapore early, and the nature of Malaya makes it very hard to defend. He will be forced to garrison a lot of bases in that area should you be able to put northern Sumatra under your air umbrella.

thats my thinking too, I seriously doubt i will do an attack on the west coast which as you say does need engineers that are a bit sparse to be honest, i have pulled out some from the burma front but not enough for 2 bases. Keeping sabang alive will prove to be the main problem imo. IF i can hold on and more importantly build it up then it can be a serious thorn for Japan which i do not think he will be expecting. One othet bonus is i can fly out the engineers from andaman island to sabang using dakotas which he cant stop . only the vehicles would be left behind and i have a use for them there anyway.

KONGO !!! .. yes he was a tad miffed . something along the lines of

"Beautforts fly from their bombarded airfield, through a blizzard, and
manage to deliver a torp into the side of the Kongo, give the pilot a
medal of some sort!"

18 th February 1943 a day that will go down in 'minor' history as the day the Para
corps lost a lot of boys over Baker is. .. the invasion TF is one hex out and the
paras went in early ! .. must have miscounted of they refuelled or some such delay.

see piccie .. fortunately they encountered half starved japanese with the combat
potential of a small rodent, which is just as well. I had a sub contact with several
DD's on a line from tokyo to baker is. ( i suspect some CV's are coming in full speed)
SS grouper took a DC for her trouble but will survive if she gets back to Midway.

Japan is still landing at Attu and an engineer unit arrived today

TF 104 encounters mine field at Attu Island (92,34)

TF 104 troops unloading over beach at Attu Island, 92,34

AK Urashio Maru
AP Kotobuki Maru #5, Shell hits 1, on fire
AP Koshu Maru #2
AK Nichii Maru, Shell hits 1

Japanese ground losses:
424 casualties reported

3 AP's sank on the return leg to japan and i have sent out a veritable flood of subs
which will mostly arrive on station tomorrow.

I also caught 2 AK's unloading at lautern. Today had to be the day the liberators
were flying port attack ! .. still hudsons from darwin worked them over quite well.

Day Air attack on TF, near Lautem at 33,78

Allied aircraft
Boomerang II x 14
Brewster 339D x 10
Hudson I x 6

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships

1-1 then 0-1.. even cut off they are doing a job of atrittion. can't get them out and the
relief force has turned back as being to weak. they'll just have to die as martyrs and be
reborn in 3 months .. all else in china looks peaceful BUT i think he's been sneaking out units from the south.. and i have a big reserve in wuuchow .. humm tempting . also forgot to attack the oil
today . whoops .. post-it not attached to monitor !

todays baker island fiasco !

Ground combat at Baker Island

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 580 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 11

Defending force 323 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 14

Japanese max defense: 6 - adjusted defense: 5

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 0)

Bleauh ! .. well the raider arrives tomorrow and the full div in 2 days .. should be a walk over
unless he has CV's closeby. i sent up a small BB SC group as both torpedo magnets and deterrant should he commit SC forces of his own.

One more aussie DIV being shipped to Townsville and we will be ready for invasion PM. same goes for
Earl Grey .. 2 divs 1 day out from colombo.

Nice going with BB Kongo. If you are lucky she will be out for months to come! [:D]

Fiasco or not it seems that Baker Island is for taking for you. It is actually quite an important base to have when advancing towards Gilbert's.

Attu seems to be going well too and if he had CV fleet in the area as you said than the Port Moresby operation might pay dividens too.! Fingers crossed! [;)]

Baker fell to the raider unit but he's still in the hinterland and i would like to oust him before dropping off a division so he does not know its arrived. BUT .

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 02/20/43

Japan continues to send out nick night bombers to andaman is. he has achieved nowt so far but its annoyed me enough to send a NF unit back from china to india where it will fly to andaman next turn to try and interdict although their experience is awful ( hence going to china to train).

The Brits hammered victoris point again as it seemes he'd flown in a few bombers , i am using some dutch range 5 recon units from andaman to keep an eye on the base.

Day Air attack on Victoria Point , at 25,39

well thats 4 free dead bombers ! [:D]

This is the allied artillery attack between wuuchow and canton

Ground combat at 43,40

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 71906 troops, 413 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 2335

Defending force 95736 troops, 942 guns, 24 vehicles, Assault Value = 1716

I can double the allied numbers easily .. worth a go ? considering about 8 corps are prepped for canton it might be worth a go. but i dont have enough supply to run more than one bomber base in china at any one time.

speaking of bombing china .. the oil base on the chinese coast 8 hexes from sian (forget name) cant be targetted by my b25J's ????? oh well plenty of resources to hit 1st anyway. also i am hitting res before HI to stop free supply generating , is this the best course of action ? ot HI 1st ?

Ground combat at Baker Island

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 770 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 34

Defending force 356 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 15

Allied max assault: 66 - adjusted assault: 26

Japanese max defense: 7 - adjusted defense: 1

Allied assault odds: 26 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Baker Island base !!!

Japanese ground losses:
49 casualties reported

Allied ground losses:
19 casualties reported

so we got baker is. .. in the hex are a ton of seebees offloading and a small BF also AA and CD guns. the inf div i sent back to canton as its loaded on just 4 AP's and too vulnerable imo. i can fly it in later if necessary.

moved up some F4F's to canton to fly out to baker and sent the B17's to noumea then next turn to cooktown as a big hammer vs PM/gili/buna/Lae.. when needed.

Another change in operation Earl Grey.. the 2 new allied divs have been diverted to madras as followup units aiming for georgetown as i have plenty of inf prepped for sabang. more that i thought and i have discarded the attack on the W sumatran coast for now. although one base could be a size 5 3 hexes from Palembang. definately a later candidate .

I also found out today that sabang was 1st attacked by the british in 1944 by air but never occupied (until after the war) so 43 land invasion is nicely ahead of history here. but then again so is freeing up mandalay . although i am a bit worried i may get hammered here without forts .. but victory to the bold, or defeat to the foolish ..time will tell. japan has 39! units in pagan .. yikes. so i gave up trying to stop fort improvemnts i.e AF bombing and will instead hit ground troops.
Day Air attack on Pagan , at 31,31

Allied aircraft
Blenheim IV x 38
Wellington III x 42
Liberator VI x 12
Hudson I x 15
P-40B Tomahawk x 16

Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim IV: 2 damaged
Wellington III: 2 damaged
Liberator VI: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
125 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 15

no point carring this on ! .. lets try and hamper a div or 2 from now on.

also allied bombers from adak finally hit the invaders on attu in the aleutians

Day Air attack on 21st Division, at 92,34

Allied aircraft
PB4Y Liberator x 6
B-24D Liberator x 27

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
182 casualties reported
Guns lost 5

i have had a change of plan here though. the 12 unit PB4Y will go on anti shipping duty while the B24's will haul in supply to attu ( i need a boost) . elsewhere emergency garrisoning of dutch harbour and kodiak island have almost been done. 1 more suprise for him too .. corsairs were railed to juneau (mistake) and are being flown in bit by bit to andaman(whoops anchorage ! ) .. IF i can get them operational it'll be a nice suprise for his sweeping zeros [;)]. Japanese subs seem to have an interest in waters around anchorage .. good news for me is plenty of good PBY and another 75 exp PB4Y unit based here lets hope i get a few as lots of convoys heading north along the canadian coast right now. Also sent up a SC group with 2BB and support from the south pac .. refuelled and picked up DD's at pago , heading for san fran 1st then base in the north.

Roll on march ! NEED P40N's badly ..

Hmpf. You thinking about reinforcing the Attu base? ...or do you have adequate forces available in reserve.

AZtez No ned to reinforce attu right now, im busier trying to make up the lesser bases into decent af's 1st .. i do have another N Pac RCT in san fren prepping for attu but no transports as yet. and no rush either as imo he'll need 1 more div at least.

I am now officially a complete IDIOT !!!![:@] [:'(][&:][:o]

ALL the follow on transports to baker island had 'do not unload' as a default order so they sat
there for 4 days and today LBA and some japanese CVL's caught me .. BAH HUMBUG.

Fortunataley the damage was limited and all damaged units to remain and unload while the rest scamper
back to LBA at canton .. what a major mess up .. F4's flown in as a last ditch effort and dakotas
are to fly in a completely unprepped BF . all the prepped ones were on ships. Thankfully i'd
turned the Div around as i checked it was 'do not unload' too ! lesson learned the hard way.

Piccie reveals the deal about damage done . frankly it could have been a LOT worse. I'll refrain from
showing 2 days of LBA (in 20-30 numbers) and naval attacks (20-30 again) hitting multiple groups.
It was not good watching on the replay and i had to skip most of it.

I did however get a break over china that helped a bit ..

Allied aircraft losses
B-25J Mitchell: 2 damaged
B-26B Marauder: 4 damaged

so some japanese planes killed for no allied loss ( apart from flak). will continue this tomorrow
too in the hope he forgets to stand down [;)] Lightnings like nates ,, especially wrapped in a
pancake roll and served with shredded cucumber and plum sauce .. yummy.

will be extra careful for operaton Earl Grey and the PM attack. which as a prelude i would like
to try and close down gili gili and do a proper ASW sweep of the area ( starting tomorrow).

Burma .. still on ceasefire and he's now left pagan ! .. permanently ? i dont know. he may have decided its too easy for me to flank him OR he's bunching everything to throw me back over the
riverline. humm . have to watch for the latter .. meanwhile allied AF continues to pound
some divs .. no idea if this is doing any good but it must help.

Just for anyones attention, I'll be away from tomorrow PM till saturday/sunday so no updates for that part of the week . sorry.

no ships left at baker island now , but at least the Cv's didnt persue.

Anyway 2nd bit of bad news is he has started to do some ship hunting between Oz and India !
This was unexpected and caught an empty convoy homebound. fortunatly it didnt happen
a few days later or he may have caught a substantial british SC force coming up from Perth.
I will have to keep an eye on this wee raider unit .. CVE's im guessing.

Still its a nasty attack

Right thats enough BAD news lets have some good cheer for two days worth of air-air combat ..

just a quick summary for burma losses for Japan .in all 6 raids killed

830 men
30 guns
3 tanks

not bad for a 2 day tally .. 1 b25 lost to flak.

one destroyed Oscar unit and some more dead sallys .. rest day tomorrow the P40's are getting
tired trigger fingers [;)]

good good good ..

Also PM gets a bit overwhelmed when i unleashed THIS !

Day Air attack on Port Moresby , at 53,91

Japanese aircraft
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 18

Allied aircraft
P-38G Lightning x 81
B-17E Fortress x 129

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 19 destroyed +1 scrambling i assume ..

Allied aircraft losses
P-38G Lightning: 5 destroyed, 4 damaged

Port hits 17
Port supply hits 27

This was secondary targetting too as primary was for AK/AP group unloading at gili gili.
19 dead front line japanese fighters is a bonus . P38 losses were a tad high for my liking
but its extreme range. Must rest next turn as fatigue is v v high.

Also in china near canton allied ground forces come up to this strength

Ground combat at 43,40

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 71243 troops, 399 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 4253

Defending force 114688 troops, 1194 guns, 24 vehicles, Assault Value = 2135

5 more corps still on the move and only 3 japanese units in canton . i 'may' be able to
force a move here .. BUT its darn woods ..

IL4's from wuuchow also hit 8 ! AK's today with 1-3 bombs each. time to move before
he hits the AF back i think. no losses and good morale. No probable sinkings but it all
helps the headlines in "chungking Daily news". And makes up for the fact my men ran away
in N china ( didnt surrender ) still they are isolated and alone .. and oddly enough
re-supplied ! .. no idea where from as they arent connected to china by road. BUT they are
connected to russia by road .. does this count ?

no more tonight .. me sleepy

Don't let him destroy your resources in China unless you can't stop him.

OUCH !..

Time to turn back the 2nd wake of AK's .. lost 5 LCI (with supplies) to CVL shoho and
company too. .. however massed Dakotas now in canton and flying in AV support/eng and more men.

SW PAC ..

Operation Ooze .. on hold big time .. 290 engineer sqds and 230 eng vehicles are improving
the dot base by a whopping 2-3 % / 2 days ! .. Vanikolo will take ages to come online ..
in the meantime supply is getting juggled round.

E australia

Sub hunting continues well . 2-3 damaged ..
However he reconed townsville and now (i suspect) knows i have CV's there .. BAH humbug.

it will still continue but after the invasion of sumatra .. MSW sent singly to gili and PM to
test the waters.

Speaking of Sumatra

Eary Grey is underway , heading to a mid ocean rendesvous hex. BFF and ind div 37 will lead
the attack , eng,BF and a lot of arty will follow in. also 60 odd hurricanes and spits in
ships as a last wave ( no range) .. british 2E or US P40's will provide initial air cover.
also have 45K supply loaded and coming along too.

Pagan is being reinforced and tuang-gui next on the list. he's blocking the rail
line south with 41 ! units .. bombers are failing badly flying here . probably as he's
3 hexes out and out of spit range ( untill pagan build up).

TTFN

P.S China .. allies continuie to hit japanese bomber base that has been
harassing my northern troops .. in 4 days 40 japanese bombers destroyed and
12 tojos KO'd for 4 P38's and 3 B25J's

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/08/43

Subs have been very busy in nrothern water lately.. many many AP's and AK's finished off
and CA hit today too. 3 attacks 1 missed , other hit and failed to detonate, 3rd worked !

Sub attack near Paramushiro Jima at 82,34

Japanese Ships
AP Monji Maru, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

Sub attack near Paramushiro Jima at 82,34

Japanese Ships
AP Kuraido Maru, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS Herring

Sub attack at 91,34

Japanese Ships
CA Myoko, Torpedo hits 1, on fire
DD Yuzuki
DD Mutsuki

Allied Ships
SS Jack nice one Jack !

Hes coming back to baker island i think .. see piccie .. i have flown in 2 CD units (marines) but infantry is a bit light .. eek .. next turn i'll fly in the 25th inf div if im still there . they are unloading from ships right now. I really want to hold this place .. and now have lightnings
at canton which will really help remedy the useless allied aircover. thsi hasnt gone to plan
at all ..

Operation Earl Grey is well underway .. in 2 days most shipping will have rendesvoued about 600
miles west of the target (sabang) .. then we rush in after refuelling ( well thats the plan) so far
i am unspotted afaik .. the CV and CVL will provide limited air cover.

Commonwealth are building up Pagan and will capture tunag-gui next turn .. so burma is going as planned. the range on the spits is hamering offensive bomber actions and IF he LR caps his troops
it will be dangerous .. but here is an example raid

Day Air attack on Imperial Guards Division, at 31,32

Allied aircraft
Blenheim IV x 39
Wellington III x 31
Liberator VI x 15
Hudson I x 10
Beaufort I x 3
Beaufort V-IX x 11
P-40B Tomahawk x 37
B-25C Mitchell x 15
B-17E Fortress x 18

Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim IV: 1 damaged
Liberator VI: 1 damaged
Beaufort V-IX: 1 damaged
B-25C Mitchell: 2 damaged
B-17E Fortress: 2 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
308 casualties reported
Guns lost 10

plenty more hitting 35th and 55th divisions .. he's in the open 3 hexes from mandalay
blocking the rail line to rangoon. Not sure i can shift him ( 40 units) at all . but after
making forward bases i will try .. else i ooze round again and force a retreat like
before. Im starting to prep for rangoon too ..

PM invasion on hold for now .. he has too much intel on my CV's here and must be expecting
something .. combat ships back to sydney as some need upgrades and refits .. might as well
get them done and also make him wonder what i'm doing with them .. It at least allows
more prepping time for PM and gili. ( not that most troops meed it mind you).

So it all hinges on the brits once more .. sumatra and burma are the offensive fronts
right now .. I kind of like the commonwealth taking the lead on hurting japan rather than
america for a change .. lets see if baker is. holds ( forts at level 1) urgh.
