RE: Naval and Defense News
I posted on the Command Facebook page about the Russian strikes and noted they were operating "during daylight hours" and if the photos are of the actual strike(s) show weapon delivery during the day. The same source (I'll link it if I can remember) said something to the effect; "the Russians bomb during the day, the US and France at night." FWIW

The most definite confirmation that the Su-35 contract was signed between China and Russia. 24 planes are to be produced for the PLAAF. The Chinese CMC chairman has visited the UFA engine plant as well.
Methink Russia possible made huge concessions here, giving China the source codes for the PESA radar and avionics, so that the PLAAF can integrate their own weapons, just like they did with their Su-30MKKs. Because it is pretty sure that China doesnt want to buy some hundred additional Russian missiles just for 24 Su-35s, when the rest of the Chinese Russian imported Flanker force are already on the way to be converted to Chinese weaponry.
But still, the 117S would give China a good stopgap measure for the initial batch of LRIP J-20s.

If you ask me, if Russia's industry wasn't sanctioned by the West such deal would have never been signed, at least not for 24 aircraft.ORIGINAL: Hongjian

RE: Naval and Defense News
True, this is why the Su-35 saga has been ongoing for at least 4 years now, and only after the sanctions, the negotiations have been progressing. Before, Russia wanted to sell at the very least 48, if not over 100, and with no concessions in terms of avionics, or any TOT.
Though, the Russians were always interested in Su-35 sales to China, even before 2009 when the Su-35 was still in development and the J-11B first appeared, creating that dispute about licence agreement. The J-11B dispute didnt really deter Sukhoi from marketing the Su-35 (and the Su-27SKM as well) to China, as an alternative to China's desire to upgrade the previously imported Su-27SK/J-11A to the B-standard.
Still, 2+ billion USD for 24 planes isnt a drop in a bucket, and I strongly believe that it comes with full customer after-care and a contract for further engine deliveries as well.
But China has also saved over 100 billion USD because of the oil-price drop as well, so that wont hurt so much.

Indeed [:D]
I was just cautious about all that one and off about the Su-35 saga... But the signs were there all along.

Well, the easiest way for our intelligence forces to get raw data on the Su-35, is for Western spies to collect it from China. Probably a smart play.
Though surrounded by a great number of enemies
View them as a single foe
And so fight on!

Su-35M or Su-35SK (presumed export names) will surely monkeized from their home jets. Not as worthy as to spy Sukhoi instead.ORIGINAL: NakedWeasel

But that is nothing to do for DB3000 update until we actually see them in service.

Long rumored, and finally there: China's still missing part for a true blue-water navy and carrier-strike-group. A large AOR.
At 55k tonnes fully loaded, it would be nearly as heavy as the Liaoning and possibly the Type 001A, China's second carrier under construction.
China's new über 55,000 ton replenishment tanker (Type901)
For the last 12 months, there has been a hint that a 40,000t class new AOE is under construction at GSI's Longxue shipyard. Well, judging from this latest set of photos, they are making good progress.
Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics -- The PLAN is taking this military maxim to heart.

The UK formally announced it's buying P-8s today. I'm somewhat surprised, since the general feeling seemed to be they were going to be too expensive.

http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.ph ... ew&id=3257UK Prime Minister David Cameron will announce today a £178 billion investment in defence equipment and support over the next decade as part of a new Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR). The £12 billion uplift in funding will be focused on investments that will help to ensure the UK can respond to diverse threats and includes nine new P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA). UK currently has an MPA capability gap since the last Nimrod MR2 MPA was retired in 2010.

Relying on CIWS or PDMS is useless anyway, as we can see in CMANO. Especially with supersonics that are literally dashing through the engagement envelope of PDMS like RAM or HH1-10, giving them only enough time to engage one or two of them maximum.
LO supersonics rather puts a premium on early detection and capable long and mid-range range anti-missile-missiles. In terms of the XASM-3, I think the PLAN has to get their quad packed DK10 medium range SAM online ASAP, as well as a successor of the HHQ-9 missile with longer range and better low altitude engagement capability (if the actual HHQ-9B isnt already such a missile).
