We had the Feathered Crusader on the local Rock Station at that time - WQAM out of Miami...

Lex after the refit where 8" guns removed and prior to the refit where she gets 5" and multiple 4x40mm. The Lex didn't last long enough to get these later refits.

Saratoga never went to sea without having either her 8" or the 5" dual deck mounted guns. Lexington fought Coral Sea with her 8" mounts removed , but had not yet been fitted with 5". She had some light AAA "temporarily" mounted in their place. Also Saratoga generally had a black stripe on the side of her island (later removed). In early war games , Lexington and Saratoga were on opposing sides. Lexington , pretending to be Saratoga , requested that some of Saratoga's screen form "plane guard" on her , which got them close enough that she was able to take them out at point blank range with her 8" battery. [:)]
