Eastern Front
Situation Report August 26th 1943 Turn 41
Army Group North

For the remnants of the The Volkhov Front besieged in there fortresses low on supplies and munitions the situation is hopeless as the relief force attempting to break through has been halted by the troops of I ArmeeKorps and LIV ArmeeKorps.
With no hope of pushing through our lines enemy will either be forced to fall back or find itself encircled as our forces move through swampland to outflank them.

While this fighting was taking place parts of 9th Armee and 8th Armee defending along the kimry / Rostov ( R ) defence line ( the Northern Moscow pincer arm ) contain Red Army attacks and begin to push forward capturing Dmitrov, Zagorsk, Kolchugino and Aleksandrov.
With enemy manpower and resources pushed to there limits The Ostheer attacks.

Eastern Front
Situation Report August 26th 1943 Turn 41
Army Group Centre

In late May Operation Zitadelle had been launched, the plan to capture Tula, Voronezh and Moscow, which was hoped to bring a quick end to the war in the East, while the operation had achieved great success with Tula being taken and Voronezh encircled and the Red Army losing hundreds of thousands of men and vast amounts of materials, Moscow was still in Stalin's control and the enemy had launched offensive after offensive across the entire Eastern Front in an effort to thwart our forces from taking the Soviet Capital.
Now in the 14th week of the operation Army Group Centre was now ready for the final drive on Moscow.

Operation Nordpol (ii)
The offensive would begin with a mechanized assault on Moscow's North and South flanks, and would consist of 4 Armies, in the North 8th Armee and 9th Armee, in the Centre and South 4th Armee and 3rd Pz Armee. The plan will be to smash through Soviet lines with Panzer units for a envelopment movement encircling the city then the Panzer troops will dig in countering any attempts by the enemy to break the encirclement and reach Moscow until reinforcing Infantry arrive to establish a defensive perimeter.

https://codenames.info/operation/nordpol-ii/

With the enemy distracted with there own offensive against parts of 9th Armee in the Kalinin area the offensive begins firstly with a diversionary attack towards Ryazan by parts of 4th Armee, the city is captured, Pz Units from 4th Armee and 3rd Pz Armee punch through Red Army lines, Kolomna is retaken then Voskresensk and Kurovskoe.

After withstanding the Soviet attacks at Kalinin 9th Armee and part of 3rd Pz Armee begin to go over on the offensive with Pz Units leading the way, the enemy is driven back and there forces cutoff. Istra is retaken in a bitter fight.
The Red Army throws the last of its Moscow Reserve forces into battle but these are defeated and forced back.

General Ferdinand Schaal's LVI Pz Korps ( 4th Armee ) along with 3rd Pz Armee's Das Reich SS Pz Gren Div capture Noginsk and link up with General Christian Hansen's X ArmeeKorps ( 8th Armee ) North of the town, cutting off all land routes to the Soviet Capital, Moscow is no encircled with the nearest outside Red Army units almost 50 miles East of Stalin's city.

While the German assault on Moscow is taking place the Soviet offensives in the Tambov and Voronezh regions continue to rage, 2nd Armee defending a 250 mile front line manages to force back enemy units giving it the breathing space to plug the gaps in its line and retake some territory lost the previous week and in the process trap a Soviet Tank Corps on the west bank of The Don River near the town of Repyovka.

Bitter fighting continues along The Oskol River as 2nd Hungarian and 2nd Armee destroy the Soviet 30th Tank Corps and 3rd Breakthrough Art Div then move Northeastwards towards enemy Inf formations, another assault by 3rd Guards Army and 18th Army on our lines to relieve the trapped units at Kupyansk fails as General Karl Hollidt's XVII ArmeeKorps contains 42nd Guards Inf Corps and 25th Tank Corps frontal attack towards the town of Nizhnya Duvanka, The Red Army suffering huge losses for little gain.

In The Caucasus Axis forces quickly establish a defensive line to face the oncoming Soviet assault, however the major battle Axis Commanders were expecting fails to materialise, apart from a few probing attacks the enemy seems to have gone over onto the defensive, possibly this is happening due to the fact that there forces have heard news of the major battle in and around Moscow, this possible uncertainty in the enemy's posture has given time for our troops to better prepare.

Italian Front
Situation Report August 28th 1943 Turn 9

Sicily

While air battles intensify as both sides battle for control of the skies, on the ground the Allies throw everything at our forces, Generale Alfredo Guzzoni ( Ital 6th Army ) orders the shattered Ital XII Corps to withdraw and make preparations to evacuate across the Messina strait and refit, 16th Panzer Div and the newly arrived 162nd Turkomen Inf Div move to cover the withdrawing Italians, 10th Panzer Div moves to fill the vacated 16th Panzer position and the 242nd Inf slots into the front line.
As the Axis front line reorganises more reinforcements arrive in the shape of the 4th Fallschirmjaeger Div and the 265th Inf Div at Calabria. The plan is for 5th Pz Armee to more or less take control of the defence of Sicily with the remainder of Ital 6th Army as a reserve.

Even as our forces reorganise the Brit 15th Army Group launches and all out assault on the Axis line, however there attacks are blunted by our determined resistance.

Looks like you actually have a chance of keeping the Italians in with the Allies hitting a wall in Sicily.

Hi

Yes its looking good but there is a long way to go, and if the Allies ( AI ) land on either Sardinia or Corsica and I cant push them off either island by the end of The Axis turn its more than likely Italy will surrender, then there is a chance that the AI will simply land on the mainland, if that happens and they establish a fully supplied landing site, and right now there are plenty of beaches with no troops guarding them.

The Allies landed at Salerno, Calabria and Taranto on Sept 3rd, that's the next turn ! so we shall see if they actually invade.
