My Aussie CA/CL force won't get to Port Moresby in time to break up the landings, but maybe they can do some serious harm. We'll see. Lexington and Yorktown are still a day east of Noumea and too far away to help.

Allied Sub Saury attacks TF at Kendari. Torps go thud against an AP in both attacks...[:@]

Sighted some kind of surface force 180nm SSW of Baker, reported amongst it are 2 CA and 1 CV (Hiryu?)

In the Coral Sea, both of my CV TFs have now been spotted near Gili Gili. Perhaps it was an error to split them.

I normally don't post AAR from the file, but I thought this might be interesting in view of the LBA debate.

10 AUG 42

Day Air attack on TF

Japanese aircraft (CAP)
A6M2 Zero x 29

Allied aircraft
P-40B Tomahawk x 5
B-17E Fortress x 35

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Tomahawk: 3 destroyed
B-17E Fortress: 1 destroyed, 27 damaged HOLY CRAP

CV Hiryu, Bomb hits 1
CV Junyo
CV Hiyo, Bomb hits 2, on fire

STUPID ME! If I had just stayed put for another 2 weeks, I could have nailed the rest of his carriers! DAMN! Now he's going to pull back and I won't get another crack at them for a long time. I'll also have to consider where they are - and are not.

I have been too lazy to plan any offensive ops, so I guess now I have to close the doors to the darkroom, and begin formulating a plan. I need to rid Baker and Nanoumea of the carbon unit infestation. It impinges upon my supply route to Oz (not to mention that the Auto Convoy system can't seem to deal with routing AROUND SOUTH of the Gilbert Islands instead of directly THROUGH. I may have to bother with Port Moresby if it too interferes with my ability to shift forces and move supplies

MOGAMI comments:

How many times from UV till now have we done this?

One day one player has his CV (or other major force) hit by LBA giving an advantage to the other player only to have his LBA even the score soon after.

You were closer then 11 hexes to Lae. Your rabbits foot really saved you since of the 200 bombers and fighters there only 33 bombers escorted by 15 fighters took off. Yorktown took one torpedo a CL took 2.

LBA breaks my heart all the time. After great effort of building a base and transporting HQ and AV support and placing experiance groups on missions with escorts either
1. They don't fly (all my opponents seem to be able to control the weather)
2. They fly but escorts don't so my bombers are destroyed.
3. They fly with escorts but only a small postion of ready aircraft take part diluting the effect.

I take great pains not to overload fields etc but the enemy in most games can steam around in range inflicting great harm to me and the results are always meager. I do hit a CV or a BB from time to time but never a smashing blow.

Brady landed on Eniwetok while 200 bombers and escorts on Kwajalean observed for several days and then launched against tiny TF well to the south. (All those transports and escorts right there and 200 Japanese aircraft attacked
a single AVD transiting between Johnson and Wake so that after 4 attacks it was "fail to locate target"

On the other hand I know the system works because heaven forbid I get into range. (both as Japan and Allies my TF get clobbered by LBA)
