A pretty darn low number of strikers actually got to face flak. At least some CVE at Kanoya are out of 5 inch ammo, that's why I dispatched a big AE convoy.

Of course, they will have to wait until the next day's threat is dealt with... (hint: things that go "BOOM" in the night.)

Aha! That makes sense. :) Those CVEs have relatively very weak AA don't they...or do they upgrade?

In this case I'm talking about the incursion of Yamato and friends. I'm waiting to see how that turned out.

Almost all the CVE are upgraded but even then their AA is not as strong as the light cruisers whose hulls they were built on. I did notice at least one (maybe a handful) whose upgrade I missed. Likewise there are some DD and CA that haven't had their full upgrades. Some are even upgrading now at Hong Kong.

To be clear, no CVEs were converted from CLs, CLs were converted to the CVL Independent class.
Bogue class were built on C3 merchant ships.
Sangamon class were converted from T3 Tankers.
Casablanca class were purposed built.
Commencement Bay class were also purposed built.

I knew that. You passed the test, Nomad!

😳 😁

I don't know how I missed upgrading any. I really thought I had got them all until I found one that wasn't upgraded. It's got like 400 AA rating (crikey!). Anyhow it was like, "too late now, you dummy!" so I'm squeezing in any odd upgrades remaining, most especially when ships are damaged to the point of needing repairs. Except for some of the battleships, I just couldn't take them out of service for long enough so I have at least half a dozen battleships, maybe more, that are not fully upgraded.

It's September 1945 - you better hurry and get it started if you want to see BB Tennessee after her 270 day upgrade!

• The most amazing part to me is that the Soviet destroyers were not targeted and sunk by enemy aircraft. They have rearm gun ammo at Olga but are going back to Vladivostok to get torpedoes.

• The bad weather made the many smaller combatants more a nuisance than they might have been.

17% moonlight. Plus bad weather, rain mostly.

I forgot to mention more explicitly that I was surprised to see the battleships alone, no destroyers. I wonder if that is because there are none available (those are with the carriers) or if it was a deliberate decision to free the battleships for maneuver.

Not many subs at all. I've been lazy with putting subs in the area and have justified that by thinking that IRL there would have been no Allied subs in the area because of the heavy concentration of friendly surface vessels! 😁

• 4 battleships left with heavy fires!

• Sweeps over Yokohama/Yokosuka were very successful and cleared away all fighter defenses before the bombers showed up.

• Due to limited range, some fighter groups continued sweeping Kobe and did very well. Two group mistakenly swept Osaka/Kyoto and did fine.

• In addition to the battleships still in port at Yokohama/Yokosuka, recon shows lots of destroyers. Maybe they are really smaller escorts, but either way we will continue strikes on that port tomorrow with the sweeps to pave the way.

• The P-51H made its combat debut yesterday, but with too few flying to make a difference. A second group is upgrading now, with both operational groups at Iwo-jima.

Kanoya
• Just a little to facilitate landings.
