Salvaging ships and many other things probably haunted the dreams of the people who made this game because they are true enthusiasts. But it just wasn't/isn't possible to put in everything. Even from a player perspective the amount of micromanagement is astounding.

Lots of non-combat support units eating supplies at Singapore. While they will take time to kill, they will be easier to kill than combat and artillery units.

Thanks! I do still think Singapore will be a short siege. I haven't counter the bombers, but I'm attaching the combat report so you can get an idea. The dive bombers will have to stand down if there are to be any at all left for the next attack. The crossing at least brought the number of Japanese 'guns' - arty, AA, who knows? - down just below 600. [X(]

No ships to bombard. One of those Singapore hex sides is a strait and Singapore probably has more mines than any single factory could produce. I decided to send the battleships on to support the Takao/Formosa invasion.

The Japanese lost close to 30% of their AV in that battle, so figure on that basis alone that their final AV would be perhaps 1,000 less. And the Allies suppressing fire will be more effective because there will no longer be any disruption from crossing. The Allies own attack will be better for the same reason. I'll rest the troops for as long as it takes to get every unit in single digits disruption, preferably low single digits (the high stacking limit at Singapore will allow that).

Making predictions again... two or three attacks to capture Singapore.

I have had to plan my planning as a turn can easily eat up an entire afternoon now. Today (RL):

swap out a fighter group of pilots and replace with low trained reserves (100+ clicks)
Build a new amphibious group:
how I go about this:
choose the objective
choose an amphib HQ
choose a corp HQ
choose INF
choose armor, cmbt eng, and arty
choose support
get them together at debarkation point (this is the longest step after choosing the objective)
review COs in the LCUs
Get the landing ships to the embarkation point
arrange naval support: BB, escort, fast attack carriers, SAGs
review naval COs, examine air groups (naval)
arrange follow on assets, typically supply, fuel, and support vessels.
**At this point in the war I like to assign the units properly to HQs and have the PPs to do so. This makes it much
easier to find everybody for the next task.
None of this includes: recon, search, patrol and pickets, nor any submarine assets to be deployed, nor mine sweepers and ASW assets.

The Empire made air strikes against our armoured units at Kukong but achieved nothing. Most of the action was Allied air strikes and troop movement. Engineers and base forces have begun reaching Wuchow by way of Liuchow, and a large column of engineers (from Pakhoi) is in the woods just west of Wuchow and will arrive in about 4 days. The last of the assigned artillery has arrived at Canton, tomorrow all arty will make a recon bombardment.

Disruption among our units at Singapore dropped by ~20% each. Much more rest needed; AV present is 3,520. More and more mines cleared at Bengkalis and still the menace remains. Administrators at Tandjoengpinang came out waving various Allies' flags in the morning and reported that battleship Yamato was scuttled. Tweets immediately were heard "Sunk!" but the birds tweeting could not be located. There are two unidentified ships in TF at Singapore so the news might be false. Again.

Today's attack at Amami Oshima shows the corner has been reached but not quite turned. Certainly the additional air support and battleship bombardments are contributing. AV is 919, much better than after the previous attack. At Nago we will keep rotating units to rest as needed. The Kume-Jima invasion, only an infantry Rgt, an engineer Rgt, and an engineer Bn, will start loading tomorrow and should be able to invade the day following. The fast battleships will commence bombardment of Kume-Jima tonight and continue through the landing. Air groups aimed at Nago will switch to Kume-Jima.

The Takao invasion convoys are fully loaded and moving out in the company of the British carriers and British and French battleships. The USN carriers are moving from their holding area in the middle of the Philippine Sea to refuel at sea and meet the invasion at the target.

The Empire again struck at our armor fouling the railroad tracks at Kukong but did little damage. Today some of our P-47 pilots found the raids and took down some in spite of heavy escort with one raid.

As you can see we are landing substantial engineering assets and after tomorrow's attack we will have to pull out two divisions to relieve overcrowding. Amami Oshima AV is at 933. The troops could attack now, but will wait one more day for all disruption to fall to single-digit levels, but then will wait for the battleships to finish supporting the Kume-Jima invasion.

The Kume-Jima invaders are boarding landing craft/ships tonight and tomorrow and should be ready to land the day after. The naval bombardments and air strikes showed the terrain less protective, but I suspect also that fortifications are less built up than at the other targets in the Okinawas assaulted so far.

The Takao invasion force is making its way though the South China Sea. The USN carriers met up with a large AO convoy ~250 nm SSW Naha and all four fleet CV TF refueled.
