RE: Operation Rolling Thunder

Post by kaleun »

Report on Operation Rolling Thunder
After all the action in the South and Southwestern Pacific theater, it was decided to initiate offenssive action in the Central Pacific theater. This was to consist on a raid by the Intrepid carrier group. In secret the carriers left Pearl, refueled at Midway, and accompanied by a replenishment TF they set out from Midway, heading north. A large group of submarines statined themselves around the Bonins, as the advance scouts.
Unfortunately, a war plan never survives contact with the enemy; one of the submarines torpedoed and sunk an enemy tanker, and the enemy replied by sending a large ASW group to attack the submarines. The carrier group then dashed West at full speed, and approached within striking distance of the enemy destroyers. AFter the day was done, 3 enemy destroyers were sunk, and more damaged.
