Well I think those Japanese convoys spotted last turn are going to San Marcelino now maybe still unsure of their final destination. As you can see the Japanese have used a minesweeper's depthcharges and severely damaged sub S-32. The Japanese BB's which look bigger and more modern then the old Maine and Ohio ran in their brief encounter. And finally the planes on the CV TF are getting real good at hitting floating targets.

The IJN Ise took 2 more torpedoes this turn from the Renown which caused her most of the damage that sunk her that sub torpedo last turn didn't hurt either. BC Indomitable is probably not gonna make it. A DD ASW TF sank Japanese sub UC-99 (O5) one depth charge killed her. The Illinois TF has done another fine job sinking more Japanese AP's off the Philippines. They are probably my best anti-shipping TF. Those AK's that fought off the destroyer held their own they are all armed.

stats for the Cl's Omaha and Cincinnati

Post by comte »

Here's the stats for the Cl's Omaha and Cincinnati that arrived at San Diego this turn. As you can see they have float planes attached for scouting which will be useful.

The Omaha-class cruisers were a class of light cruisers built for the United States Navy. The oldest class of cruiser still in service with the Navy at the outbreak of World War II, the Omaha class was a post-World War I design. Built to scout for a fleet of battleships, they featured a high speed (35 knots) for cooperation with destroyers, and 6 inch (152 mm) guns to fend off any destroyers the enemy might send against them. Displacing 7,050 tons, they were just over 555 feet long. Due to their age, the Omaha class mounted four smokestacks, a look remarkably similar to the old four-stacker destroyers. Their armament showed the slow change from casemate-mounted weapons to turret-mounted guns. They held a full twelve 6"/53 caliber guns, of which four were mounted in two twin turrets, one fore and one aft, and the remaining eight in casemates; four on each side.

stats for HMS Erebus and Terror

Post by comte »

Here's the stats for the BB's Terror and Erebus.

The Erebus-class monitors were of 7,200 long tons (7,300 t) displacement, 405 ft (123 m) long, with a maximum speed of 12 kn (14 mph; 22 km/h) produced by reciprocating engines with two shafts, and a crew of 223. The ship's armament consisted of two 15 in (380 mm) main guns in a single forward turret, eight secondary 4 in (100 mm) guns in eight single turrets, two 3 in (76 mm) anti-aircraft guns in single turrets, and eight 0.50 in (12.7 mm) anti-aircraft Vickers machine guns in two quadruple mounts. The class mostly served in the Naval Gunfire Support (NGS) role.

RE: stats for the Cl's Omaha and Cincinnati

Post by Connfire »

What I find striking about the Omahas, besides their casemate guns and the fact they are the only ships in the USN at this phase of the game with tripod masts and floatplanes, is the fact that they are actually longer then all of your older USN cruisers, pre-dreadnoughts, early dreadnoughts and the Langley. Compare -

CL Omaha - 556 feet
CV Langley - 542 feet
BB Florida - 521 feet
BB Delaware - 518 feet
CA San Diego & Charlotte classes - 504 feet
BB Connecticut - 456 feet
BB South Carolina - 452 feet
BB Virginia - 441 feet
CL Chester - 423 feet
CA Brooklyn - 402 feet
BB Maine - 394 feet
CA Rochester - 384 feet
BB Illinois - 368 feet
CL Olympia - 334 feet
Typical 4-stack USN DD - 250-314 feet

Its not until you get to BB Wyoming class, at 562 feet, that you get a capital ship physically longer then the Omaha class CL. Just find that interesting - an untrained Japanese spotter looking at them through a rangefinder would probably think they are battleships.

Interesting stuff man [:)] Yeah I could imagine some Japanese spotter mistaking these for BB's [:D] Jeeze the Illinois is small, but she's doing a hell of a job in my aar [:)]

The HMS Indomitable was lost just east of Hong Kong her crew was picked up by American destroyers on ASW patrol. HMS Indomitable was an Invincible-class battlecruiser of the British Royal Navy. She was built before World War I and had an active career during the war. She tried to hunt down the German ships Goeben and Breslau in the Mediterranean when war broke out and bombarded Turkish fortifications protecting the Dardanelles even before the British declared war on Turkey. She helped to sink the German armoured cruiser Blücher during the Battle of Dogger Bank in 1915 and towed the damaged British battlecruiser Lion to safety after the battle. She damaged the German battlecruisers Seydlitz and Derfflinger during the Battle of Jutland and watched her sister Invincible explode. The Invincible class ships were formally known as armoured cruisers until 1911 when they were redesignated as battlecruisers by an Admiralty order of 24 November 1911. Unofficially a number of designations were used until then, including cruiser-battleship, dreadnought cruiser and battle-cruiser. Indomitable was significantly larger than her armoured cruiser predecessors of the Minotaur class. She had an overall length of 567 ft (173 m), a beam of 78 ft 7.75 in (23.9712 m), and a draft of 30 ft (9.1 m) at deep load. She displaced 17,250 long tons (17,530 t) at load and 20,420 long tons (20,750 t) at deep load, nearly 3,000 long tons (3,000 t) more than the earlier ships.

I didn't even notice it last turn until I looked at the Blimp screen shot but the Japanese army has moved from Naga to Legaspi. I think the convoys spotted earlier when to Naga to drop off supplies and troops because now there are 3 spotted units in Naga and 2 in Legaspi fighting the small French force I had landed there on April 30th. I am gonna try and evacuate the French force here and move them up to Bataan. Hopefully I can get them out. The doubt the French force will hold out for long if it isn't evacuated theres not much supply here either. There are some Japanese ships off Legaspi but I think they are dropping off supplies hopefully not more troops.

The small French force at Legaspi has held off a larger Japanese force but will be evacuated by ship as night falls on the battlefield. Despite their valient efforts I doubt they could hold the place for a long time. They will be sent to another part of the Philippines.

I decided to use the 21st U.S. cavalry to try and open a second front on Luzon I was gonna send it to reinforce Legaspi but I figured by the time they got there the place would have fallen. I have evacuated the small French force from Legaspi and have sent them to Aparri. Also two French regiments from Haiphong Indochina are gonna land at Aparri. Hopefully this will close another port that the Japanese are using to keep their armies supplied in the Philippines. I gotta close those northern ports and then I believe their force in Manila will starve. The Manila front stalemate has to come to an end somehow. Here's a look at the current situation.
