RE: Enemy drops A-bomb over Hiroshima!!

Post by PzB74 »

B-29s haven't been used for naval search before, it's something new...both in this game and in regards to WWII.

From this link: http://ww2db.com/aircraft_spec.php?airc ... del_id=B42
I found that

"In WW2, B-29 bombers were used exclusively by the United States Army Air Force in the Pacific Theater.

After the war, B-29 Superfortress bombers remained in service with the newly created United States Air Force through subsequent conflicts such as the Korean War. In that conflict, the changing nature of war reduced the number of strategic targets for B-29 bombers to strike and Soviet fighter innovations (namely, the MiG-15 jet fighter designed specifically to combat B-29 bombers) restricted the usefulness of these bombers. The US Navy also employed four of them, but they were restricted to long range search missions only."

This indicates that only 4 B-29s were used for naval search - and that was after the war if I interpret it correctly.
You could say that using B-29s as naval search bombers would compensate for mine laying bug - but then there should be limits for how many B-29s can be on naval search. Increase the numbers and everything afloat between Luzon and Tokyo will be hit [8|]
I'm also having problems seeing how B-29s can hit barges with bombs.... [:'(]

I may add, PzB, that your document is referring to the Korean War, not the WW2 :)

But I seriousely doubt they were used for search missions by the way. The Korean War B-29 were used for search & rescue stuff, with flares, a boat in the bomb bay, etc..., not for naval search (well looking for the DPRK navy would be somethin' [:D] )

The article is general history of B-29s. It states that they were only used by the USAAF in WWII and that first after WWII - in the Korean War - 5 examples were used by the USNAAF as search planes! I just left the Korean stuff to keep some context.

I will keep an eye on how many ships are hit by B-29s on search missions in the time to come, if the number becomes to wild I'll consider
talking to Andy. As long as this search bombing doesn't reach completely silly levels I can live with it. Over the last few days I feel that there have been a bit too many hits. Using B-24s may be just as good as using B-29s if you ask me [&:]

Fierce air and sea battles!

Post by PzB74 »

In fierce surface battles we took on no less than 27 enemy destroyers, 3 anti aircraft cruisers
and 3 super battleships including the Iowa with only 6 destroyers and 4 cruisers!

We lost 1 destroyer to enemy fire, 1 to enemy sub attack after being damaged in battle, as well as 4 crippled
destroyers that will make it back home. Our cruisers are all undamaged. 10 transports, 4 MSW and 4 barges were also sunk
including 2000 troop casualties. Still we have managed to unload 80% of the Elite Imperial Guards Division and more supplies.
Currently there are 2500+ assault points on Amami, including 800 engineers that completely fixed all damaged caused by 70 B-29s today.

In a bloody air attack 75 B-29s escorted by no less than 118 Mustangs came over Amami.
42 Mustangs and 3 B-29s were shot down for the cost of 48 friendly fighters. This is quite a feat! We also shot down 9 Avengers and 4 Helldivers today. Again most of our pilots survived and I was able to rotate units out and assign replacement ac immediately.

Even more amazingly, we sank 6 enemy fleet destroyers (1 by naval air after the battle), damaged 5-6 others and landed hits on a dozen more enemy ships including the Iowa. The brute enemy battle wagons were not able to land any 16" shells on anything except a barge [:D]

BONSAI!! This must be the greatest feat in a David vs Goliath battle I've ever seen! [&o]
Fighting on friendly turf close to our homeland we are able to inflict more damage to the enemy than we get back
despite the horrible odds.

Now we only got 4 operational destroyers, but it is our cruisers that is our best asset.
Only enemy Cleveland and heavy cruisers are efficient against them, and they are fortunately in short supply.

Results of todays battles!

We can now freely distribute supplies and troops from Amami using barges and air transports.
Enemy action can only inflict relatively little damage while risking serious damage to own major combatants.

Sorry no, as was shown not long ago Naval search with torpedo loaded planes will not result in hits.

This is not completly true. I had a PBY get a hit during Naval Search - just about blew me out of my chair. I do not know how much damage was done.

Yes, but I think the issue is rather with the ASW mission type rather than pure naval search... isn't it? [&:]

Welcome Dekwik - always nice to see new people around [:)]
Indeed, this was a short glimpse back in time to the good ole days!
Unfortunately we're a bit short on hardware these days...

Replaced 2 of the damaged destroyers today to reinforce what remains of the Junyokan.
Back in mid 43 Tanaka suddenly disappeared, never saw any message about it and he didn't go down in
combat. Quite annoying but Nishimura has done a good job in his place.

Looks like Andy is psychic, B-29s no longer on naval search.
In return 100's of Avengers and SDBs are on naval search. We gunned down
20 of them in an otherwise quiet day.

Still got 96 Shindens and 200 other fighters in India - as soon as I'm certain Andy isn't invading
I'll transfer them towards the Home Islands. Will be a most welcome reserve.
Also keeping 1000 medium and naval bombers in reserve - will take a long time to replace and train them,
so I don't wish to waste them on non vital operations.

Trying to organize a defensive perimeter that becomes stronger the closer the enemy gets to
the Home Islands. Not sure how long we got before Andy slams 8-10k assault points worth of troops
ashore somewhere. 9 forts and 1000 assault points that can rapidly be reinforced to 3k is necessary
to defeat such an invasion.

I Andy lands outside of LBA range he will be very vulnerable for quite some time.
This will be when we gather 500 Shindens for the ultimate fight against enemy carrier air power [:)]
Don't think this will happen until 01/46 though, after a campaign against Okinawas most likely.
Would be difficult to bypass them.

Mustang Down

Mustangs are escorting from Apparri at max range. This makes them vulnerable and causes
a lot of fatigue. I will attempt to challenge them now as they have taken losses and morale
is low. Most B-29s will be busy suppressing the Okinawas, which is a dangerous job.

We have brought supply levels up to 60k at Amami and transferred 10k to Kadina. Time to take a break until
Andy cools down a bit!-)

Today a transport going to Amami triggered a fierce non observable A2A battle over Amami
because the enemy carriers remained there for another day!!

Enemy lost 75 ac today, including 57 carrier fighters.
We lost 68 ac, including 24 Shindens and 14 Reppus.

Also observed a suspicious TF north of Marcus.

I finally catched up with this monster thread [8D]. So I think I should drop a line.

The Allies will probably surrender soon. The game is simply not fair for them: You can fight with Bonsai Spirit, and they can not counter this with Beercats.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. (Benjamin Franklin)
