So, we could have the battalion command tank with it's unusual insignia and then each platoon with a different number? All in the same style or does PCO have different numbering styles?

Good Hunting.

Yes, the decal/scenario designer would need to make the necessary decal files.

Which means we could get specific vehicles done like Wittmann's tank!! Or, from what Ben was saying, specific buildings! So with enough historical background information the battle site could be recreated and the vehicles could be given the correct unit ID numbers, along with the unit insignia's on the vehicles as well. [&o]

This is where the I can't wait for the modders to find PCO!!

Here is a map that has lots of auto-genned trees on it; trees that map maker was told to generate, and individually placed trees. You can immediately see the difference in labor. Using Autogen, Map Maker created and positioned 4034 trees. All at once and with little effort.

I decided I wanted the orchard to be something different than just a single tree type so instead of using Autogen I hand created this orchard. I may have had second thoughts about that if I had realized just how big a 1.5km orchard really is in terms of trees.

The historical documentation on this battle described the orchard as being a large fruit orchard. When I saw it on the map I agreed. Having now created that fruit orchard I'm amazed at the size. I'm also amazed at just how often the main terrain features haven't changed since the battles of the 1940's.

Good Hunting.

Notice the three boxes I have surrounded on the right with the Word Auto Genned under them. Those 3 boxes created 4034 trees for the color they are sitting in.

Now look at all the blue boxes in the center of the map. Each blue box represents a single tree. There are 1374 little blue boxes.

That's a huge difference in time and energy.

So why would anyone ever want to create a large number of trees by hand.

I could give the trees spacing and that would have given me the orchard look. Maybe not in the exact same pattern but within reason.

However, I could only autogen a single type of tree. As it is now my orchard has 3 types of barren, leafless trees. Is that important to you? If not you autogen. If so you create the orchard manually.

At this moment the only structures on this map are trees of one sort another. It's now time to put in some of the village. I'll put some trees down in the village as well and the houses. There will be firewood by the houses and smoke coming from the chimneys when I'm done.

Good Hunting.

OMG this is going to be the great game!

I've been playing Kharkov a lot recently. I keep thinking "Damn I hate this 'ground bounce!' Man, if I could only rewind a couple of seconds! I need a hotkey to select the previous unit! Wow I'm getting sick of hearing the soldiers say the same sentence over and over! I sure do wish I could adjust the scale of the units so I can see them!" I could go on and on . . .

You know when I work on these maps updating them by adding grass one by one I test them for looks and they look 100% better. But it takes time to update them.

I made the Ferdinand about 3 years ago and this map about two years ago. Even though the camouflage is historic it stuck out like a sore thumb on the map. Now with the grass you can understand why that pattern was used.

Hey I am new to PC, but the added grass real makes the game POP [:D] Again, this is a killer screen!

Does the grass have any movement to it? Kinda just rocking back and forth in a light breeze...

Mobius,
I fully concur with Richie61. These are most amazing screenshots. The grass really adds a huge immersion factor - it is well worth the effort and the effect cannot be overstated. The Ferdinands look pretty sharp too. [:D]

Make that a black and white shot and it could almost pass for a picture in a book. That sky and menacing clouds also add so much to the visuals. This could easily be something a Kriegsberichter might catch with his 35mm Leica.

Very nicely done.

More like Russian Steppe forever. Funny though, PCO is looking more like CMBB now than ever before.
