Good news here...you can see a little attrition on the IJA assault value.

I can hear the gnashing of teeth from Tokyo!

USN CV is not spotted...only the ST Mihel & 5DD have 1 dl, the Ellet 5, and the TF by Marcus have detection on them.

Looking good! Iboats off Karachi. She at least takes three torpedo hits in two attacks to sink.

Lexington and Enterprise now have 59 and 61 night time experience which will go a long way in avoiding Iboat torpedoes.

A wonderful turn and much needed boost to Allied morale. [:)]

What now? Are you disengaging for repairs?

Yes to DL but no to MDL.

In later days, Vice Admiral Wilson Brown gets rewarded by the President for his naval genius. Lexington expended all 8" rounds from her guns, and although she didn't score any hits, she did keep the IJN at distance.

Here is a little trick for you AFBs...early on pick naval commanders and task force commanders with high naval skill. You are much more likely to encounter Iboats and you need the naval skill to avoid them....you generally want to avoid IJN carriers so Air skill isn't as important. YMMV.

Do you do the same with the carrier captains?

I don't think so...I would like to take Marcus...or raid Hokkaido.

Today will be rearming and refueling and changing the starting Captains in the ships that have been at sea since the beginning of the war.

With respect to naval captains:

Yes, I always prioritize high naval skill for all CV type ships with lowish aggression. Later on, when I form up a decent deathstar will switch the task force commander to high Air but leave in the high naval skill captains.

In other news it looks like maybe Japan is eyeing Rockhampton for invasion![X(] KB and lots of ships headed in that general direction.

Great night time naval experience gains:

I am curious about how you decide your next preps. Those US Units in Oz are set for Canton Island - I presume they are the ones that were at sea when war broke out. Do you now set them for an Australian base? Port Moresby? A different island location on your offensive plans next summer? This early on, I find it so hard to imagine what things will be like in three months time.

Picking likely defensive bases, especially when I can combine with HQc and Command HQ. Other than that I don't care too much at present.

Yes to DL but no to MDL.

Is the a way to determine MDL?

good to see Lady Lex emptied her magazines of 8" shells. Put those guns to good use in a defensive engagement and I'm sure helped to boost the night experience as well. Like you said - it didn't matter if they didn't hit, you survived!

Dec 27th, 1941

And now I worry about Iboats getting Lexington or Enterprise...all turn I had a dark suspicion, a foreboding, because the CVs had to move to Wake to rearm and full refuel...it was a predictable move.

Invasion Darwin...I was literally one day from retreating all the troops. I had retreated them earlier, and then changed my mind and sent them back, but they simply didn't have enough time to board the trains and exit. At least I got out the Dutch AA unit which is marching to Alice Springs.
