Attacking force 187282 troops, 846 guns, 1559 vehicles, Assault Value = 3315

Japanese infantry has now abandoned Mandalay and are moving towards South. I have ordered my troops to pursuit the enemy. There might be another shock assault if he has stopped just South of Mandalay.

Things are getting bloody. RN is achored at Chandspur and is waiting for future orders.

I will propably start airlifting troops to Mandalay once I have captured the base.

seriously hotting up there Aztez .. very very good move at moulmein . nasty bombardment though, i'd imagine your a/f is messed up badly.

one thought about persuing from mandalay ( i am assuming you have the indian and british armour there given the vehicle numbers) . set them on persuit after shock attack. they may well be strong enough to keep hammering the japs backwards and the extra 10-20 % permanent losses would be crippling for him.

sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

Thanx Rob. The Moulmein operation did actually already accomplish what it was ment for and that was the capture of Mandalay!

With Mandalay on my hands now FDR will have tough times ahead. I have actually decieded to abandon Moulmein since it has served its purpose.

Those units from Moulmein are set on shock assault next turn and are ordered to persue the enemy. I think I can inflict quite some damage.

His troops are heading towards Rangoon so these guys will head out towards Mandalay to link up with British forces there.

At least that is the plan [:D]

It seems that the mighty KB is moving towards this area of battles or at least I think so since one of my Submarines was attacked by a Judy last turn!!!!

That would make sense since this is the area where I have no significant naval forces.

As said it is time to abandon Moulmein. It served is purpose now that Mandalay was captured.

Ground combat at Mandalay

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 34509 troops, 214 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 3122

Japanese max defense: 0 - adjusted defense: 1

Allied assault odds: 69 to 1 (fort level 7)

Allied forces CAPTURE Mandalay base !!!

If the mighty KB is moving towards India than I have made some adjustments to my defense.

I have a lot of fighters and fighter bombers at Dacca/Chandspur region. Most of them are set on LRCAP since there is 1 Solid BB TF at Chandspur along with 1 minor CV TF.

If FDR chooses to assault here than he should suffer quite a lot of downed aircraft.

That is the plan anyway! [:D][:(]

I have also ordered by bombers to hit Rahaeng. He has quite a lot of firepower there now. These assaults will be flown from Mandalay!!!

Pagan also needs to be captured along with Tang Gyi!

I did accidentally set game date as February 1944 but it is now March 1944 [:D][:D][:D]

One more big thing I forgot to add in the last update was the fact that first B29's will arrive within 32 days!!! I can hardly wait!

Also I did catch 1 enemy TF heading towards Marshall Islands...

Btw I will propably loose some fighter/fighter bomber squadrons at Moulmein if he manage to capture the base.

He can supress the base with his navy (Those BB's did a good job for the enemy) and LBA's. Well that cost is definately worth this operation! [:)]

Game date is 16th of March 1944

India & Burma

He is definately moving his troops towards Rangoon. This causes a dilemma for me since those troops that landed at Moulmein are just north of Rangoon.

I will propably move them to safety since I doubt I could hold a shock assault from 140 000 enemy troops. So in this mind I will propably move my across the river towards Akyab for now.

He has intensified his LBA assault againts Moulmein. Also Yamamoto TF bombarded the place from sea.

He first set of allied fighters flew from Mandalay! [:D]

It seems obvious that he will retake Moulmein with his forces. No sign of KB but that Judy assault againts my submarines makes me very vary.

Game date is 18th of March

India & Burma

KB spotted near Moulmein by allied search planes. As I thought he would come and fight at Moulmein. It was an wise decision to move out and regroup my forces.

I have now 1 BB, 1 Surcafe combat TF, 1 CV TF (1 CV + 1 CVE) and 2 PT boat squadrons. These forces are protected by massive amount of Thunderbolts and Spitfires on LRCAP. So, I kind would like FDR to try an strike there.

His ground troops are moving towards Rangoon still.

I have ordered an delibarate attack at Pagan next turn. So that base should be next to fall on allied hands.

Central & North Pacific

3 US Divisions, 2 Tank Brigades and supporting elements are preparing for assault on Marshalls. The target is yet to be decieded... Kwaleijin or Wotje? Opinions appreciated.

Allied Battle and CV Fleet are almost at Pearl Harbour. They will provide cover for our assault Marshall Islands.

Liberators from Midway flew againts Wake Island.

Day Air attack on Wake Island , at 82,63

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft
PB4Y Liberator x 107

Japanese aircraft losses
H8K Emily: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
PB4Y Liberator: 1 destroyed, 5 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
14 casualties reported

Airbase hits 13
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 61

Since it seems he has enough supplies to open the airfield again I have decieded to cancel these bombing for now. Garrison at Wake Island is 50 000 men strong. I will propably bypass this atoll for good since I rather have those troops there than anywhere else.

China

28 days still for B29's. I have not decieded to where to place them but China seems suitable area. It is in range for Japanese home islands and I have level 9 airfield at Chungking.

Also I can provide quite an CAP over the base so it wohn't be easy to shutdown. That is for sure.

Austalia, NZ & North Pacific

A supply convoy and additional troops have now reached Nauru Island. That means that final assault againts the last Japanese will start soon.

4 USCM division is preparing for invasion at Marshall Island. Target will propably be Mili since Majuro seems to have garrison around 50 000 men.

Game date is 22nd of March 1944

India & Burma

Japanese troops have landed at Moulmein with heavy naval fleets supporting this operation.

Japanese Ships

Port supply hits 19

I have just 1 Air aviation unit defending the place so he will capture it next turn.

Those invasion forces are now linked up with Akyab supply road. This means that he has free road to move to Rangoon area. I did not want contest the retreating forces since those Allied troops might have just retreated towards Moulmein so I played it safely.

He has 3 units (approximately 25 000 men) bringing up his rear. If I'am lucky my troops catch these units and I'am able to launch an assault here.

I do not think he will stand up and fight in Burma nomore since his troops are battered but if he chooses to fight at Rangoon than that would be good for me.

Another excellent news is that one of my submarines managed to CV Hiryo near Moulmein.

Sub attack at 26,36

Japanese Ships
CV Hiryu, Torpedo hits 2, on fire
DD Yukikaze
DD Oyashio
DD Kagero
DD Wakazuki
DD Teruzuki
DD Akizuki
CL Agano
CA Tone

Allied Ships
SS Sculpin, hits 3, on fire

According to FDR she will survive. Sys and Floating +30. Anyway that should put that CV out of action for at least a couple months! [:D]

Central & North Pacific

CV's and BB TF's have now replenished. I'am waiting for more ground troops to arrive from West Coast.

Destination will be Marshall Island... and target either Kwaleijin or Wotje?? [&:]

China

24 days before B29's start arriving.

I have also ordered 3 corps to move towards North of Chungking. There are 2 units units holding the river crossing and I want to dislodge them.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Nauru Island is now completely in allied hands.

He really seems to withdrawing his forces from Solomons. That is good news too.

Currently 55 enemy units at Truk and according to intel around 50 ships.

Operation Sweep will soon commence. The target will be Mili Atoll at Marshalls. This will provide me with an airbase from which I can support the big landings coming from CenPac.

On a diffrent note his ASW TF are getting tough. It seems that those Morfar rounds are hurting allied submarines much more than depth charges! [:@][:(]

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 23807 troops, 216 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1021

More troops are loading in CenPac. It will take sometime before everything is set for offensive at Marshalls.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

The invasion fleet has sailed to Mili atoll. It seems empty but I have plenty of firepower just in case.

Quite a few allied fighters are set on LRCAP.

Thanks Rob! The key point now for forthcoming battles is the hex just North of Rangoon. If I can manage to take control of it than his Burma army is divided in two elements. That would be ideal situation!!! [:D][:D]

Even if that doesn't succeed the Burma operation has been a success as you said. [:D]

Quick update.

Game date is 30th of March 1944

India & Burma

Japanese army has withdrawn to Moulmein. There +20 units present in that base. It seems he will concentrate his defenses around Moulmein and Tavoy.

The battle for Rangoon will commence within couple of days. There are still around 40 000 enemy troops at Rangoon.

I do now have firm foothold on Mandalay, Pagan, Akyab and Tang Gyi. The resources are being prepaired at Mandalay and thus the supply level is rising "rapidly".

Central & North Pacific

Invasion fleet is waiting for the green light at Pearl Harbour.

China

Just 16 days before B29's start arriving in duty. This will be a nasty suprise for him.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

The battle at Mili Atoll continues. Allied LBA's are bombing the place daily.

Allied HQ Operational plans for 1944

India & Burma

* Capture the Burmese capital Rangoon with forces currently operating in Burma

* Build up the industry in Burma so it provide supplies for the troops in the area.

* Start Moving towards Moulmein, Rahaeng and Tavoy and hopefully capture these bases for the advance towards Malaya peninsula.

DEI

* Nothing planned here. However there is an possibility of an invasion at Timor. It does not look imminent though.

North Pacific

* No operations planned here.

China

* Secure the skies over Chungking since this base will be the main airfield for our B29's.

* Use B29's to distrubt enemy facilities and ports in Home islands and China.

Central Pacific

* The Marshall Islands will be the main objective.

* Once this one done than most obvious target would be Marianas. The initial invasion there might not take place in 1944. (It depends on how quickly I can conquer the Marshalls)

* Benefit for this operation will be the joining up allied CenPac & South Pacific troops.

* This area will be main focus for our BB Taskforces and CV Fleets.

Southern Pacific

* Establish foothold on Marshalls first. Than link up with CenPac troops.

* Drive towards Ponape base. Once this is completed than use this base for LBA assaults on Truk. Hopefully I can isolate the Truk base in 1944.

* Later start our push up the Solomons. This operation still needs sometime to prepare.

I will propably not go head to head againts enemy strongholds such as Rabaul, Truk, Lunga, Wake Island, etc. I feel it is better for isolate them by establishing airfields in surrounding bases so that my LBA's can neutralize any attempt of supplying or evacuating these bases.

Also It would be beneficial to lure KB into battle. I feel that I have the power to crush his navy by now so this would be a nice bonus. (One obvious target would Singapore port strike with my B29 squadrons since 1 of the CV's were damaged in his operations near Burma. It needs repairs so it should be at Singapore currently.)

Other good thing is that I did capture Rangon with it's industry intact. Also the airfield and port are already at size 9! [:)]

Japanese army seems to deploy their troops in Tavoy and Moulmein area.

Allied HQ is considering it's future options here.

Japanese ASW efforts are solid. I really need move my submarine fleet further from Japanese home islands.

I think that at least part of KB is moving towards Japan since one of submarines spotted a propable CV near Philippines.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Allied invasion TF is closing in Majuro. The allied CV's will take a diffrent route and sail close by Kwaleijin in order to supress enemy LBA's flying from Wotje.

Allied airforce has kept bombing Kwaleijin, Majuro and Gili Gili. Next turn Gili Gili operation will cancelled since there seems to be some Japanese fighters on CAP. These planes are propably coming from Port Moresby.

Reinforcement TF has also sailed. Their destination is Mili Atoll and they should land there within a day or so.

Firstly thanks to everyone who has been reading/following this one. The 10 000 hits is way more than I ever expected it when this AAR started.

Now let get down to business.

Game date is 10th of April 1944

Burma & India

Both sides are resting and gathering momentum. Once my infantry units has been refit than we will move on again.

Only question is what to do next? (The burma offensive was a huge success and I doubt FDR will let me have another victory that easily.)

The obvious route would be to againts his troops at Moulmein and Tavoy but there might be some other options as well.... [:)]

China

Within 4 days the 1 wave of B29's will arrive at West Coast. It is time start building up my defenses at Chungking. The best of best will be there providing CAP for the base.

Central & North Pacific

Allied CV Fleets are closing in Kwaleijin. There is at least some enemy vessels in the vicinity.

The first wave of allied BB TF's will strike againts Majuro next turn.

These operations will be supported by allied LBA flyíng from Gilberts.

Also the transport ships should start off loading more troops into Mili next turn too. These ships are just 2 hexes of their target currently.

Next few turn ought to be intresting.
