I would think formations are a counter to all of the single ship losses to the Russian Black Sea fleet. Russia treats the Black Sea like a secure owned body of water. It has taken longer than it should have to for Russia to realize the Navy adage of safety in numbers. Letting individual ships sit isolated, no matter how powerful, is poor tactic that more than likely counters doctrine.

Yes, it is a convoy system only formed by warships.

Still just one of them sunk to the bottom of the sea is a victory for the Ukrainian side.

And also material for a scenario, just adding some stuff with a bit of imagination :)

The main point is that a few AShMs have a much better chance of getting through on a single ship or a high value ship in harbor than a functioning formation with a screen.

I looks like the Aim-174 (air launched version of the SM-6) may have moved from trial stage to operational, or at least an operational trial.

It is generating some debate in the github db requests site.

Would these AIM-174s be directly compatible with Mk41 VLS? Or are they modded to the extent they can only be airborne?

I understand that the AIM-174 is a modification of the SM-6 that is already launched from the Mk41 VLS system.

What I'm asking is if its still compatible with the Mk41. Has been it modded so that an AIM-174 can no longer be launched from the VLS? Looks like the booster is deleted at least.

Answered my own question...

1) It is modded to the point it is no longer launchable by VLS.
2) Booster is not mounted on the AIM-174.

Source is this video... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaKT1qSRH0Q

A little overblown and don't have their original source but will track down.

Just checking this warship in CMO, noticed that in the game has 2 diesels, not 4 and I cannot find the Iranian Bell 212, only the 214.

Janes and Navypedia both list machinery as two diesels.
