We'll order that Navy to link up with the one off Tallahassee - which is down to just 19 ships. I suspect he'll attack again so I want to join the fight. But worst case, I have to go through him to get to where I am going so I'll attack him where he sits if he doesn't advance.

The attrition on the Tallahassee force has been massive. Most units showing 0K meaning there are under 1,000 men. We run a very real risk of these brigades being disbanded due to low strength. Normally, I'd consider swapping one with the garrison in Pensacola, but it is winter and I couldn't be sure anyone would move in either direction.

I brought extra garrisons down to the Kentucky cities to try and meet the governor's request earlier. I guess I might as well pull some out and reinforce Bowling Green now. I doubt he'll attack again, but it can't hurt to build that force just in case.

Now I'll go ahead and reconsolidate Keyes' army.

And now that I finally have a little money, I'll get another artillery piece in progress.

Checking the Nation screen, all looks fine - well, good enough any way.

And finally, I'll get one more mint in the works with my excess iron before ending the turn.

Thank you for posting.  I can't get the game because I put on an idea list...  SO I must wait until Christmas...  I am curious to see how your game ends.  What is the purpose of sending the second navy down to florida?  I suspected it was to reinforce the other navy and supply tallahassee, but you said something about have to go through him to get to where you are going...

I do want to supply tallahassee, but I'm really trying to wipe out his navy in the process.  If I could destroy him, the current Navy could supply Tallahassee.  If not, the current Navy will be harrassed by him.  So, my mission is

1.  To go to where he is and provoke a fight.
2.  Support Tallahassee - and by moving there now, I pass through where he is and accomplish goal #1.

So I am moving to Tallahassee "just in case", though the real goal is to go kill him.

Late January 1863

Post by jchastain »

End of the Winter... still mostly just getting geared up for the upcoming year...

The Siege in Jackson dissipates from getting kicked out last turn. The siege in Tallahassee drags on.

Looks like the naval engagement didn't turn out as hoped. I'll need to look at that some more.

Disease in Bowling Green. That's not good news but it could have been much worse.

Nothing much happened out west and now isn't the time I'll try to press for anything. Next turn, winter movement won't happer us any more. I'll wait till then to do anything.

But his performance has been pretty disappointing. We've not done well out west and I was feeling responsible. But now I realize - it is my generals fault! I'll bust Keyes down and put this new Sherman guy in charge of that army.

I put my new ART into Sherman's new army and upgraded the gun. I also added sharpshooter skills to one of my decent brigades with good weapons. With the resources remaining, I'll buy one last camp. And since money continues to be in short supply, I'll impress it in a few cities with relatively low production. In Columbus, if it works (60% chance) I'll get 30. If not (20% chance), I'll lose out on 1 per turn for a few turns while the city is in unrest. That sounds like a good gamble. I'll try a few more cities also and we'll see if we can't "find" an extra 100 cash.

Early February 1863

Post by jchastain »

Sorry this has been going so slowly recently. I am actually out of town all week next week (and won't be able to play) and was slammed at work this past week trying to get some things wrapped up before I leave. I have yet to post my most recent 2 turns, so I'll add them now. But the game will likely have to wait for my return before making additional progress. So...

Early Feb... The Siege in Taqllahassee is slowly grinding on.

But these Navy battles are.... ummmmm.... worrisome. Over 60 ships lost????? I was going down there to force a battle and wipe him out. That doesn't look very promising.
