Overall quiet

I take Port Blair (Andaman Islands0 by para assault. Port Blair is the key to the Malacca straights and the defence/use of Rangoon. Aircraft and air support will move in.

Over Singapore there is no opposition from the air, AA is damaging my planes a bit, enough that production can't keep pace. Engine production has stepped up.

In Burma I'm bombing stuff... I have a cunning plan...

My advance continues in Malaya, I'm getting some minor swipes in, but Cathartes is getting away in reasonable order. I'm ground attacking with everything except the Sally's (They are reserved for singapore).

I continue to consolodate in China, and improve my strategic position. Cathartes attacks with a large stack on a blocking force, which is forced to retreat. Chusien is my main target, it is almost surrounded and the attack units are almost in place.

Philipines based P-40's launch unsuccesful attacks on my shipping unloading. I defend with some Nates. I loose a few, for no kills, but the ships are fine. I have now surronded a blocking force and can attack. Another division is in the process of unloading.

In Australia I begin the advance out of Darwin towards Katherine. More forces and supplies are coming in... I have plans in this area

A lot of stuff unloads at Kendari. I'm preping for Timor and the rest of Sulawesi.

As noted in my industry screens last turn I need to increase engine production. HA-35 (Oscar, Zero, Kate, Val) is increased a lot. I also increase Oscars some more. Even with PDU off you need a lot of them to upgrade airunits.

Otherwise it is quiet, starting to put in place minor resource/oil/fuel convoys to get stuff back to the home islands.

Cathartes is quiet, I'm not in a rush

Lots of sub action in the Celebes Sea, but nothing coming of it. SS KXI takes a couple hits, and it's clear that the CVL Ryujo is still in the area. S-39 sent 4 torpedoes toward her two turns ago, but they all missed. You can get an idea of who still owns what in this region. Rob-san has been picking off a few of my transports around here with Ryujo's strike planes, but fortunately he's not finding most of them.

I'm on the run in Malaya, and I'm being chased and taken down as if a pack of hungry wolves were at my heals.

Once your troops are disrupted, they are unmanageable, and the enemy can easily bear down on them and chew them up. That's exactly what's happened to the 6th Indian Brigade as they try to escape south. They are disappearing before my eyes as air strikes and Japanese tanks take them apart.

Meanwhile, there are more wolves taking me down south of Darwin...

I was powerless to stop the invasion here, and was utterly overwhelmed. Rob had carriers in support, so it would have been suicide to send Dutch and American cruisers to intervene. The USS Boise is alive and well, but I don't want to see how tough she is just yet.

Darwin fortifications and guns mauled several Japanese transports and a couple DDs. I don't know how badly though. I'm not seeing any new FOW sinkings.

Right now, the path to Tennant Creek is wide open. We may recruit some local Aboriginals to launch a guerrilla campaign. [:D]

And in Luzon I suffer a one-two punch that sends a blocking force reeling back to Clark.

91st PA Inf Div and 12th PA Inf/3 Battalion are attacked at Bayombong and forced to retreat into Cabanatuan. They are then immediately attacked by the IJA 4th Tank Rgt which I don't recall even seeing in this hex. Cab. falls and these units are further shredded.

I tried to cut the blocking force off, I should have attacked the second base first, then attacked the blocking force. In stock this would have worked, but as I didn't control the hex side or the base the blocking force escaped... but got mauled.

FOW is now a lot trickier with land as well, you don't always see every unit even when they are in the next hex...

It is further south, around Brisbane/Alice I think... but Andrew will have to answer.

These forces would normally be used in the Philipines, I'm accepting risk there to move here.

Historically, Australia planned to conduct a fighting retreat to a line between Brisbane and Adelaide. Western Australia was to be given up if necessary, although Perth would have given Japan a good port. The militia were organised into two corps, one for the north and one for the south. Each corps had an armoured division in support. The AIF armoured division and other assets (including troops returned from the Middle East) formed the army reserve. In terms of logistics, Japan would have been in very serious trouble.

Well I'm sitting at Sydney airport, just sent another turn, waiting for my plane to fly me to the newly occupied territory around Darwin. I'd like to thank Cathartes for the overflight permissions

If I get a chance I'll try to get a photo of the battery positions now they are in our control

Recently we have been told AE includes observation planes, some of which were part of LCU TOE's IRL..Will their presence affect this FOW, as far as the above instance in which an enemy unit was not observed earlier in an adjacent hex?

All observation planes are classified as recon and they are in air units. There are a lot of odds and ends aircraft classified as recon like some Stearman trainers in the Philippines at start. There were a number of aircraft built for training or civilian purposes pressed into the search role early on.
