Turn 100 16 March, 1942

The carriers Akagi and Kaga arrived at Truk this turn after their extended deployment off Australia which included their narrow escape from the entire U.S. carrier force. The ships were run hard, as you can see from the way the Akagi is smoking, and they will be going home to Kure for maintenance and upkeep. Also, just about all of the remaining airworthy Kates are pictured in the photo. Most were lost during the attack on the American carriers.

Turn 101 17 March, 1942

The Akagi and Kaga departed Truk for Kure.

The battleship contingent, which could not steam as fast as the carriers, is still one day out from Truk and was attacked twice by American subs.
Good thing the Americans have not yet fixed their torpedo problems as the attack on the Nagato resulted in three hits that were all duds.

Turn 100 16 March, 1942

I lost over 60 bombers this turn attacking Singapore. Traskott flew in a bunch of fighters where there had been none for about a month and they swarmed the incoming bombers. Losses were as follows: 19 Lilly, 19 Sally IIa, 18 Nell, 4 Betty.

Looks like Traskott is serious about stopping those Silly attacks.

I think that he flew the fighters in because my silly attacks were hurting him. I take it as a good sign. I now have Nates performing low altitude sweeps in numbers every turn with Oscars and Zeroes escorting the Sillies and Netties.

Turn 102 18 March, 1942

My troops made an attack on Singapore, reducing the fortifications to level 2 and destroying two of the defending units. However, the odds are still 1:2 and the enemy is still supplied. We will continue the aerial bombing and artillery bombardment until we have further reduced his ability to defend the city.

At sea, the I-7 put one torpedo into the freighter Silverteak off Sydney.

When I emailed the combat replay to traskott, I thought that I would bait him a bit. The only text in the email was "OUCH!!!" which obviously led him to believe that he had located and hit my carriers.[:D]

As an Allied player, I think practical jokes like this should be punished by a forced scuttling of at least 2 Japanese fleet carriers. [;)]

Xxzard is correct, the Nagato picture is indeed a picture of a very well detailed model, in this case the Mutsu.

As you have seen with my AAR, I have a policy of putting up some type of picture with just about every post. I feel that it makes the AAR more interesting with the variety.

BTW, you came really close to getting "punked" by his carrier trap but did a good job of getting out of it.  I think this will be a good fight.

Thanks, and you are right, I did come close to getting punked. The pucker factor was pretty high there for a few turns but in the end that is what makes for a good game.

Another slow day. Nothing significant happened in the war. With that, I will spice things up with a vintage propaganda poster.

Turn 104 20 March, 1942

On this date the glorious forces of the Empire of Japan captured the Chinese city of Chuhsien!
The Japanese Army had 960 casualties during the assault, but enemy deaths totalled 4,188.

Turn 105 21 March, 1942
I-24 torpedoed and sank the Dutch oiler Tan 4 east of Sydney. Two torpedoes were enough to do the job.

Turn 106 22 March, 1942

Off the California coast, I-5 encountered an ASW task force consisting of a corvette and a minesweeper. She put one fish into the minesweeper, identified as the USS Birch, sinking her.

In Malaya, Japanese forces continue to pound Singapore. Here is a snapshot of one of my bomber raids over the city. I am presently working to eliminate all stockpiles of supply in the hex.

I also wanted to show this shot of a very wierd dogfight involving floatplanes on both sides.
I had a task force of several cruisers just NE of Menado that were attacked by a flock of seagulls escorted by a herd of buffalo.
Pete and Jake attempted to slap them from the skies before they could place their droppings on the decks of our pristine ships.
Alas, my peashooters were only enough to wing a couple of the birds, but luckily the AA guns on the cruisers were able to do better by shooting down three of the offending seagulls. Rumor has it that the executive officer of the Haguro, an avid hunter, brought one of the planes down with several well placed pistol shots as it skimmed over the bridge of the cruiser at mast head height during the attack.

Turn 107 23 March, 1942

During this turn, I-26 shelled and sank the coastal freighter Bidelia off Brisbane. The ship was loaded with vehicles as at least 4 were spotted blown into the sea during the shelling. I-26 will continue her patrol.

Off Hawaii, RO-66 was hit by an aerial bomb dropped from an American biplane dive bomber. (I guess that means Hornet has arrived) She is attempting to return to Kwaj. 80 sys, 58 float, no fires.

Turn 108 24 March, 1942

Southeast of Hawaii, RO-62 torpedoes and sinks the freighter Wallingford with one solid hit.
This interception, several hexes from land, proved once again the folly of plying the common shipping lanes with freighters.
