As you can see this game was ended a long time ago. Chris has been battling cancer for the past several years. It started as ocular melanoma (cancer in his left eye, which was removed), but the cancer had spread to his liver. Initially he was given about 6 months, so we switched from this game to shorter Civil War battles. In the meantime, he underwent some experimental treatments for liver cancer and survived about 3 years.

We met in person one time. I went north from Florida for a funeral of a West Point classmate in Massachusetts. I flew to Hartford on Saturday as Chris was scheduled to go to Philly for a treatment on Sunday. We had a wonderful Italian dinner.

He passed on April 11. He was a terrific opponent and will be missed.
