In China, the Japanese once more fail to ground strike their opponents successfully..

..meanwhile the Germans make final preparations for Barbarossa in the East while in the West, its Partisan huntin' time.

Its expensive - two partisans down for two Germans - ouch [X(]

Back to the Allies and not much to do this turn. The CW do a naval and shuffle a few units.

Its the big one, the clash of the giants - Barbarossa starts.

First off there is a rubbish ground strike in Finland - 0 units disorganised
Then a Stuka attack that succeeds in disorganising two units northwest of Kaunas.
A similar result was achieved in Kaunas itself,
But a fourth ground strike fails further south.

The Germans settle on two attacks in an attempt to rip open the northern front.

The first attack is at 4:1 but the Soviets get the choice of table and choose assault.

Its the Germans best land throw of the game, an 18

The second attack goes in - this is a lot more difficult, although at least the Germans have Blitzkrieg this time around.

Its a 13! The defenders are destroyed and the Germans achieve a breakthrough.

With the German fighters some way back, the Soviets try and blunt the German incursion with a couple of ground strikes... the first fails but the second, more important one, is not good news for the Germans. Two corps of a Panzer Army are disorganised...

Just one ground strike this time - against a lone Mechanised unit northeast of Lvov, but the attack fails.

There will be two attacks again this time - the loss of the two Panzer Corps has really upset the German plans, but they cannot afford to run the risk of large losses - especially with the Soviet air force being so strong.

Antonescu gives HQ support in the southern attack, while in the northern attack, a Pe-8 bomber tries to bring the combat table down a level.

Oh dear - I forgot to cancel the Finnish attack... this will hurt. I choose the Blitz table. The Finns lose one unit and the rest are disorganised. The Russians retreat.

The Soviets choose the Assault table for the battle with the Romanians. The defender is destroyed, the attacker loses a unit and the remainder are disorganised.

The last attack of the turn - and easily the most important. If this works for the Germans, the South is opened up, if they fail, then the Soviets can concentrate on holding the line in the north only.

The Germans choose the Blitz table....

...and its a 14 - the Soviet 3rd Mechanised Army is defeated and a breakthrough occurs.

Turn 7 and all the Allies except the USSR pass - thus increasing the chances of an end to the turn.

The Soviets try and ground strike the Panzers once more, bringing in an I-17 fighter as escort. The Germans respond with three fighters - all that can reach and so the Soviets bring in the rest of the fighter force. They don't come much more important than this...

Round 1 and the Germans roll a 17 (DX PX). Either the front fighter or bomber is destroyed along with the pilot. The Bomber is chosen.

Round 2 and the Soviets roll a 6 (AA). This aborts the He-100.

The Russians now have the advantage 5.2 vs 4.3. They chose to stick around. The Germans decline the invitation...

They made the right choice - the Soviet bomber failed to disorganise the Armoured units. The Soviets hastily re-arrange their line and bring in two HQ's to organise the disrupted units at the end of the turn.
