All the bombers at Hyderabad are retasked to the new threat which just showed up near Warangal. It looks like he's trying to sweep around the south side. There's one unit in each hex. I'm hitting the troops SW of there with lots. I have one Indian division there and the Marines have been enroute to there. I'm pulling the USA division at Cocanada out to send there also. I don't need Hyderabad threatened.

I don't think he can really attack me well this far west without being under his air umbrella. We'll have to see what my boys do.

My B-17 strike on Calcutta was ineffective. Lots of CAP there, claiming two. One Oscar went down.

If anything, my pilots are getting their training.

It seems you are doing a good job stopping his overland advance but you are taking a considerable risk leaving Bombay so wide open. If the Japanese land there they will easily take the base and it will doom your holdings in India. Hard to say what the Japanese are planning in India but the advance you are facing near Warangal seems rather weak. Let's just hope CF doesn't spot your weakness and aggressively exploit it. Luckily he seems rather cautious so far with his strategy.

He won't be taking Bombay without KB around, and we know where they are. The Royal Navy has a decent presence there right now with battleships and cruisers present.

My gut feeling is that he's happy with what he has is content to make the British/Indians fight their entire war in India. All while reaping the industry benefits from Calcutta.

Very little air activity on his part in India. He's mostly content with bombing the Chungking and Liuchow areas for the most part. My troops surrounding Chungking are getting hit the worst, being in open ground.

Not much else going on. Took the worse end on the Madras sweeps today.

It will be quiet until Thursday. CF is off on a work trip.

Back in action.

Lots of activity in India. The previous day, the usual bombardment group hit Madras, messing up all the air there. I've sent them to Bombay to replenish. I'm getting skittish at this point of being anywhere on that coast.

October is upgrade month. Lots of ships out. The Lexingtons are getting their 40mm outfit. The Pennsylvanias are getting their 5"/38 upgrade. Despite the speed issue, I may add them to the carrier escorts. Cruise speed's probably similar anyway. The sub, HMS Truant, is having something done taking 58 days.

I'm running about half a dozen subs out of Bombay now. Two Brit and the rest USN. I'll start camping one at Madras and another at Cocanada. I'm also sending a sub mining mission to Madras. I'm getting sick of the visits.

I've been busy hitting his troops. No CAP on his part.

I've backed off hitting Vizagapatnam for now, since he put up a Tojo CAP. Supplies at my airfields are low enough where I don't have drop tanks. I'll resume once I truck in more supplies.

Various weakling corps north and east of Chungking got finished off by the IJA, with all of them surrendering. You'd think they would know their likelihood of surviving "POW" status is slim. Something like 50 Chinese POWs survived the war.

My re-equipped P-38F squadron in Brisbane is up and repaired. I sent them to Cairns and they're paying the Nicks at Port Moresby a visit. Their exp is at 70, so I expect good things. In fact, air exp at Oz, Suva and NZ are all pretty high by now. Suva has something like 6 VMFs and 5 USAAF fighter squadrons, all experienced. KB will have a fight on their hands if they finally try an invasion.

I bought out my last USA division in Cape Town. xAPs are about 10 days out yet, so I have to wait.

I've reestablished a presence on Canton Is.  A base force with about 75 aircraft support, a USMC defense battalion and two flak units are now there.  Two VPs are also present with a VMF and a VMSB for some kind of defense.  I'm about 400 troops over the stacking limit (6,000), but I'm hoping this isn't too much a detriment.  I'll keep supplies on the high side.
 
I'm about to ship out an invasion force to Baker Island.  I'm going fairly lightly with the three USMC para units and an artillery unit.  I'll go extreme with battleship support, with BBs accompanying the invasion and more for sustained bombardments.  I hope to be in and out of there fairly quickly, with base forces a day or so behind the invasion.  I doubt he has a lot there, if anything. 
 
With Baker and Canton, I can get my naval searches out a bit further to the west before I finally hit the Gilberts.

I'm thinking about rounding up about 4 divisions, plus armor to Normanton and making a push to Darwin. I can bring plenty.

USMC paras are heading back to Pearl, along with all the battleships. If he has nothing on Baker, I shouldn't bring any more attention-getting ships than necessary. Hopefully the base forces can take it themselves.

It turns out Baker Island is inhabited. Found this out, just as the paras were reaching Pearl. Sending them back. The base troops are holding up at Christmas Is. My SBDs at Canton just have the range to make it, so they're paying visits. I guess Catalinas aren't good enough recon planes to spot troops.

The convoy with the USA division, USMC regiment and extras are on the map from Cape Town. A bunch of xAPs also just reached Cape Town, so I hope I can bring the rest in. I'll make sure lots of supplies also cross. Two UK base forces are currently landing at Karachi. They'll be off to Bombay. I need to get support there up to strength, so that planes can get fixed. All the US base units will go there too.

I'm getting the impression that there's not a lot of Japanese air in India. All the heavies are hitting Jamshedpur next turn.

I should have Bombay fully air supported within a week or so. I'll have an extreme surplus of air at that point.

an APc showed up in San Fran. I'm wondering what her role is. I have a new "troop" transport that carries no troops and can carry 101 supplies about 1600 miles. Looks like a garbage scow, too.

APc is the name, actually its an xAPc.

I now have a plethora of them and in my game (BTS) they are all attached to SoPAC (not that that means anything).

I'm struggling to figure out a role for them.

They are very tiny, on the order of deployable craft almost, and very slow (10 knots) with very short legs.

I guess they would be good for inter-island movement of troops, but since they are an "x" craft I assume they are NOT landing craft and unload at the very slow "x" craft rate so they would not be a good choice to mix into an amphibious TF.

IIRC landing craft in a TF help other ships unload when they are empty. Still, they ain't landing craft themselves!

I suppose their better use is if you're leapfrogging along the New Guinea coast or making short advances in the Solomons.
 
I'll probably start them to Pearl when I can have a regular transport babysit/refuel them on the way.  I have a YO sitting in San Francisco too, so they can be buddies.

Like I said, I found it odd that a transport with a "P" in the designation can't carry troops.

I'm setting up a big raid on Cocanada next turn.

My big troop shipment to Karachi is a day out. An IJN sub took a shot and killed an AMC escorting the bunch. DDs attacked, but no hits. Two TFs of MLs are going out to aggressively patrol.

I've spotted a cruiser force about 8 hexes or so NW of Baker Is. Turn the troopship around again. I've got some "fast" BBs with friends setting out from Pearl to help out. All transports will hold at Christmas Island.

I've been hitting Katherine daily with 17Fs. I forgot to set one of the squadrons a target, and they went to Horn Island. Fixed that.
