Yup its standing room only !!!! (but seriously its hard enough organising massive invasions in the game without having units spread all over the place. My overconcentration on Kwaj is purely to simplify my admin and loading issues)

I tried to be realistic in an earlier game versus string and only took the Field Kitchen (40 support squads) of 2nd Marines on an invasion on one memorable occasion ever since then I keep it simple

Anyway back to the war my subs do some damage but I lost another one as well.

XI th Corps is enroute to Sarmi XIVth Corps is loading at Rabaul for Noemfoor

I spotted what loos like barges and light surface ships at one of the NG ports accordingly some DD's are going in and some FB's ordered to Naval Attack

Kavieng is now a waste of space I am starting the pull out of Amercal no need to stick around and I have better uses for those troops add the 2 RCT's of Amercal to 1st Aus Armies uncommitted reserve and I can just about squeeze another 2 Divisions to give me a ready reserve to assist if any of the northern bases give me trouble

Recon indicates Noemfoor has 7 units on it so I may need to reinforce Hydra 4 !!!!

RE: Andy Mac v PZB ....The Allies Fight Back

Post by Andy Mac »

After Hydra finishes there will be a short window where my Carriers are not required before 'Thunderchild'. Now I should use it to knock sys points off my carriers this is the sensible thing to do but I am reconsidering a full allied deathstar attack on Palembang.

My Carriers will be nearbye anyway covering Menado and I could hit tarakan in passing. Without his carriers to back up LBA it is a very tempting opportunity. I could shoot up Singapore's repair yard, Borneo and Sumatran Oil Fields.

Now this is all just speculation at the moment but it is worth thinking about. If nothing else I will be able to kill a few of his super ASW pilots.

Hydra is only being supported by 4 BB's Colorado, 1 SODAK and 2 Iowa but lots of good quality DD's I am relying less and less on PT Boats they were a stopgap measure and my DD force is stronger every day and Fletchers are a handfull for IJN DD's.

Most of my Battle line is off for repair at west coast or Pearl.

I recieve Richelieu in 50 days but thats the last heavy for a while. I have been incredibly carefull since I took over to protect surfrace assets and I think I have only lost Quincy, Mauritius and one other CL.

In the next 6 months I only get 1 CA and 2 CL so like it or lump it I still need to be carefull.

And therefore you should not play around Palembang with a deathstar! [:D]

I know you are right but it is so tempting.

I have gotten where I am by slow and steady play not doing anything spectacular covering every invasion making sure prep points are adequate, covering with surface and carrier TF's (well not since kavieng and the whole direct assaulting rabaul mess anyway)

Slow and steady the prep for Hydra took 3 months so I should just see it through then move on to my next planned op

PZB set a small Surface TF to try and get in the way of my DD's.

Note for all allied PT BOat fans...

DD when you have them are far far better at the little commerce raids and in protecting bases.

Hydra

Post by Andy Mac »

And this is only the diversion operation for 8th Armies 'Thunderbird' offensive.

The more I look at it the more I think this operation could go a long way to being a war winner.

Accordingly General Van Der Poorten will seek to release forces that I was saving for a future Timor operation as back up for the later jumps as the troops involved in later Hydra operations will have conducted at least one prior operation and wont be as rested as in the initial Hydra landings.

I dont have many potentially available forces if I hit problems if I really scrape the bottom of the barrerl/ don't change any existing Hydra forces I can probably release a few forces these forces will be un prepared/ poorly equipped or just gun shy (i.e. 9th Aus Div has speaheaded damn near every assault launched by 1st Army I dont want to commit them again but they are a crack division on there way to Brisbane to refit)

Hmm some mis posting above.

OK I have examoned whats available if I really scrape the bottom of ther barrel.

9th Aus Div is exhausted as is Kavieng Force (3 months combat in malarial kavieng and I am proposing throwing them straight into the cauldron of Hydra)

Both of these formations have been in pretty much continual combat for 3 - 6 months spearheading mutlipe amphib landings with some bitter fighting in New Britain/ New Ireland. Any real general woud pull them out of the line to refit for 2 - 4 months but in WITP I just send them back out again reward for a job well done ....another job !!! - I really dont want to use 9th Aus its suppposed to be prepping to reinforce 11th Corps for operations in Centpac so I need to be carefull and not draw away forces from Thunderbird !!!)

OK Accepting that I am going to be a Bastard and use them again where should the prep for.

Another Hydra step beyond Menado or should I prep them for different existing Hydra locations to give back up for the forces about to land and to ensure I have at least some prepped forces to commit.

I am open to suggestions.

General Andy,
Get out from behind the desk and go out to the field and see the troops. [;)]
Keep hitting him where you can be covered by LBA and he has to reinforce by sea. When it comes to any PI operations, I would focus on taking islands only until you get to the south China Sea and thus can reach out to hit his transports. But, I would go for the Marianas ASAP.

The War is back on as of the weekend (PZB has a new connection)

The Shermans are turning over their engines, the CAS boys are practising and the Levels are perfecting their skip bombing !!!!

The Aussies are getting the beer ready
The Kiwis are taking the piss out of the Aussies
They are both laughing at the Brits
and

Hydra is back on track....

1st Australian Armies 14th Corps and 11th Corps are en route this will be 11th Corps last operation as part of 1st Aus Army as it will revert to 8th Army for Thunderchild after this next operation

1st US Corps/ 1st Australian Corps/ 'Ter' Force/ 1st Army Reserve of Aus 1st Army are getting ready and 1 Amphib Corps of 6th US Army is prepping as well I just hope Hydra goes all the way to the end.

I have basically got the equivalent of 2 Army Group's getting ready to perform so lets see what happens
