The game is BORKED

It happens, which makes the game so much fun. I had Saratoga take two torpedo hits and come out with about 12 Sys damage and a point or two of flotation. But then again, I probably had three BBs go up with single hits and magazine explosions.

Mr. Sutton's comment is spot-on. I've seen something like this as well as the BB blows up message. One never knows. All that matters is getting those wessels back to Soerabaja, escorting the TK TF, and then heading for home.

Had a Bridge Too Far moment with the last turn. I've extricated both of my Tank Divisions from the current fight and want to send them WAY BACK to get some R&R and replacements. Thought I was the Germans deciding where Bittrich's SS Panzer Corps should go. Really made me chuckle!

There will be serious fighting tomorrow and I HOPE--for once--the Japanese catch a break. Haevn't gotten lucky for a while in this match and it would be REAL COOL if this could happen.

Have to day pretty much off tomorrow so Dan and I have agreed to clear the decks. We hope to get in THREE turns in the morning.

A pity you forfeited to your operation in Southern China Sea at all, though...

Pago Pago

Vc-Adm Yamaguchi exhorts the screen ships as they peel away and make direct course for Pago Pago. The cruiser Captains for Mikuma and Kumano are old, wily veterans who have commanded their ships the entire war. It is quickly figured that the Captain of Mikuma is senior and he leads the way with four modern Moon-Class AA DDs. Kumano and her four Moon-Class follow at 30,000 Yards. Formations are set with a pair of DDs on either bow with the heavy cruisers trailing by 3,000 yards.

As expected Mikuma makes first contact with 4 American DDs. In the following 6 minute (rounds) engagement two Japanese Dds are slightly damaged while all four American Dds are hit. The Americans break off and two AKs are quickly spotted. They are sunk in just two minutes. The TF has barely finished these ships when three Destroyer Escorts appear. In a spirited engagement all three are sunk for one hit on a Japanese DD. The TF reforms and makes for the anchorage only to find five Destroyer Escorts standing in their path. The DEs stand tall but three are sunk and the other pair get seriously damaged. Running quite low on ammunition, Mikuma peels away with her escorts and sets course for the rendezvous with the carriers. The first TF has sunk six DE and two AK while damaging four DDs and two more DEs. Nice tally. Damage is sustained to two DDs with one of moderate level.

Kumano is a great story. This CA was involved in the heavy fighting around Sumatra in 1943 and was nearly sunk. It took three months to mostly repair the cruiser only to get smacked by two TTs near Manila. The seriously damaged ship limped into Manila and was drydocked their under repair when the Allied juggernaut began its assault on the Philippines. Day after day went by as repairs were hastily completed without any attacks by Allied aircraft. She departed under an escort of three PG only to take yet another TT. Limping into Singapore, the Kumano goes back into repair. She remains there for over 60 days without any attention from the Allies. Finally, the ship is fully repaired in late-November 1944 nearly a year after her damage was first sustained.

The Kumano is now here at Pago Pago. Her escorts sweep by the Mikuma immediately engage three more of the never-ending DEs thrown out at them. All three are sunk. Four more American DDs engage immediately at the end of this fight. All four are hit with one taking six shells and being left in a sinking condition. The fight with the DDs frustrates the Japanese as it lasts nearly 10 minutes for no major gain. maing one final stab at the anchorage, the Japanese see the sunrise and find one lone DE blocking their path. It is swiftly dispatched but the sun has risen. Reluctantly the TF disengages and begins its retirement. Results for this TF are more meager with four DE sunk, one US DD possibly sunk, and three more Dds damaged.

Aircover promptly arrives from the carriers 120 miles away and nothing disturbs the Japanese ships as they sail back to their vulnerable charges.

Final tally for the night's work is 10 DE, 2 AK, one DD possibly sunk with then seven DDs and two DEs damaged.

The Japanese do this for just a single DD moderately damaged. It ordered to Tulagi where two ARs wait. The remaining ships are ordered to join up with CV Junyo and rendezvous with the waiting AOs before coming back.

The fight went well but I really hoped to get into more AKs and TKs. Still a dozen sunk for damage to ONE.

BANZAI!

All good must be balanced by bad in 1945. Shanghai falls after a siege of two weeks.

This event now leaves it to the Allies to see if an invasion of Japan is coming somewhat quickly. Will the heavy Allied Divisions begin to disengage and make for Shanghai to restore their losses and attack the Home Islands OR will they move north into China's Central Plains? This question should be resolved within two weeks.

If the enemy moves further into China then the celebrations shall begin because this means at least two more months of combat operations PRIOR to gathering the troops for the final assault.

A wall is forming along the Manchurian Border...

Fairly quiet turn.

SE Pacific
All ships re-join the carrier screen and everyone refuels. My damaged DD joins the AO TF and will retire within that unit. Fly in 63 Judy to the CVs. The TF will move west this turn and then, hoping for surprise, will head due south between Suva and Noumea.

South China Sea
Sortied some ships from Hong Kong and Canton trying to get them into the DEI. No luck. They run into 4 DDs and 2 DDs. Five TFs are sunk containing 2 SC, 2 AKL, and 3 AKs.

Home Islands
There has not been any form of aerial action here for 10 days. All fighters have replaced their losses, morale is back to 99-100%, and we are ready for the next round. Am watching my fighters pools increase 50 a day. We've built the pools back to where they were when Dan departed and any more time unoccupied will see the pools all increasing nicely.

China
The enemy attacks Nanking and it holds with Forts remaining at 4. This is good. I have three beat-up IDs working to get to that dot base NW of Nanking so they can train north for R&R. Here is the story in China:

My next opponent reached out to me last night and we have agreed on the start of a new match during Christmas. CANNOT wait!

Have learned so much here that I really hope to play my end game far better. As normal, thanks to all who have helped with this 'education!'

I think I vouch for many when I say that this ARR has been an education! What scenario will you be playing?

It will be either the new BTS or BTSL. REALLY want to play what everyone has helped to create. He has played an RA Game so we're both familiar with the premise. Should be a BLAST!

Just be careful. I am playing my current game as Allies, so that I can see for myself what the Allies can do... from the perspective of a JFB, this is... NASTY!

Think it is safe to say that BigRed and I are planning on locking horns. We have had this possibility planned for about two years.
