my carriers pop up (not spotted previously) alerting Cuttlefish of something happening in the area... it won't be surprising to him that the invasion of Koepang is about to go in, should be another cake walk... Koepang's airfield isn't operational and the garisson there should be overwhelmed quickly by the two Inf divisions plus support... the carrier based strike brings up only a pityful result once more though...

Cuttlefish keeps hunting down the trashed Dutch units on Sumatra using a rgt of 21st Division, a real waste IMO...

interesting intel:

3/110th Division is loaded on a Japanese TK moving to Siargao.

two things really strike me: Cuttlefish is using a TK to move 110th Division? OMG! [X(] Wouldn't he have better suited ships to do so and shouldn't he use every frigin tanker to transport fuel back to Japan? And he is moving that division to Luzon????? There are already five or six plus lots of support that are knocking their head onto the wall at Clark Field and instead of moving troops out to defend the SRA he is bringing more troops to Luzon?

Now of course my Army there ultimately will surrender when they run out of supply but this won't happen until some time in December and another enemy division will make no difference... I got no clue about his plans and if I wouldn't know that CF played PBEM before I would really ask him if it wouldn't be better to start defending the SRA instead of (unsuccesfully) trying to take Clark Field that isn't a threat to him at all... needless to say that someone should tell him he should use his airforce but he has just let me do whatever I wanted to since the IJN defeat off New Caledonia...

He is a bit passive indeed it seems O.o . And with these troops at Koepang and Rabaul even the AI would have no troubles taking it (dont want to belittle your achievments but both places cry for a garrison division and some serious forts)

absolutely agree. It's as it is most times in a PBEM, it's not one side being a genius, it's one side giving the other the possibility to look good. Really, all I achieved in this game was smacking the IJN CV/BB off New Caledonia months ago, from there on it was like bringing troops to friendly ports and unload them where I wanted to as there is just no resistance at all, no matter if air, land or sea. [&:]

I really got no clue what he's up to, it's like I was doing my turns and he would just fire them up and end them the next second as there are no convoys even near the front (haven't seen any for months), there are no enemy aircraft near the front (I would have to bomb Truk or Soerabaja at max range of my 4E to meet some enemy fighters), the IJN has vanished and he doesn't garisson the frontline at all while I am about to jump right into the heart of the SRA.

Cuttlefish thought about quitting after the New Caledonia disaster and due to the fact he isn't able to take Clark Field in 42 but I convinced him to carry on but from there on it was like taking an empty map without any resistance. He wasn't trying to reinforce places like Rabaul or the front around Timor (the most important at the moment), he actually has been evacuating all these places using air transport. As it is now, I am deliberately slowing down my advance as I don't want to end the PBEM with a big move into the SRA (could land 10 divs on Java and end the game I guess).

He may have a plan and the USN is all from invincible with five CV and five CVE at the moment (no losses) so perhaps he jumps on me and does a reverse Midway, in our case a reverse New Caledonia.

He might be fortifying Philippines and Marianas as heavily he can. Just don't know why he does not make major attack in China, for example.

he would have no chance in China to be honest. All my frontlines are heavily fortified (lvl 6 forts everywhere) and the frontline bases usually have 2000 - 3000av, some more (like Liuchow due to being a clear terrain hex) with thousands of av in reserve to be brought in quickly. I gave up terrain at the beginning and was falling back to my line of defense that goes from Nanning - Kweiyang - Changsha - Chungking - Sian - Lanchow. There was one IJ offensive SW of Sian that was going through empty terrain right to that base NE of Chungking where I mounted my counteroffensive. The Japanese were pushed back for the loss of three or four div/bgd and then they were digging in behind the river South of Ankang (SW of Sian) while my troops hold the other side of the river.

All my troops have long been fully prepped and are fully supplied, got Armies blocking important roads in great defensive terrain where all of the IJ Army in the same spot would fail to break through. Honestly, I can't see any chance for the Japanese in China as China can only be taken when you start mopping up from day one due to the setup and the game mechanics or later on if the Allied player really does some horrible mistakes. I haven't counted it up but I probably have something like 30000 av in China and as soon as I will have secured Burma (just a matter of weeks) supply will flow en masse into China. I am not thinking to do any offensives in China any time soon though, no matter how much supply or av I have there.

If I would be Cuttlefish I would not have tried to take Clark Field for nearly a year already but would have just made it a POW camp, like he did on Java with the Dutch sitting at Bandoeng (700av, mountains). These bases will run out of supply at some point and starve. And with something like 15,000 political points so far I would have tried to buy out as many restricted units from China or Kwangtung that there would be more than enough divisions around at this point to build up quite a nice defensive line. It's 10/42, there are something like 6 divisions on Luzon, one on Java I know of, Imp Guards Div at Victoria Point and surely two around Moulmein. So how many more should there be around? A dozen with the reinforcements and pp to buy out restricted ones? Not talking about nav guard units, bgds and other independent stuff plus support.

All in all I really don't get it, the IJ airforce should be stronger than ever, fully trained with ample of pilots and aircraft in the pools, there should be enough strong ground units around and the IJN still is easily strong enough to reinforce the frontline, yet Cuttlefish is doing nothing at all. He doesn't seem to fortify the Philipines (no bases reported being built up), he still tries to take Clark Field. If he fortifies the Marianas I don't know, the bases are far from being built up, building forts alone all around the map won't help, you also need overlapping airfields to employ your airforce. I just can't believe he would send troops to the Marianas when I am knocking on the SRA's door. Like I've said, I could land a dozen divisions on Java and literally end the game and I just can't imagine that anyone not being able to notice this.

There really is only one reason I don't fully exploit the situation as that I don't want another PBEM ending soon because of my enemy throwing in the towel. But at some point I will just move forward again, even if not as fast as I could, doing this with minimal to no risk at all.

Sorry to sound a little harsh, but CT: i think your opponent isn't playing at all... It reminds me the game between cr and chez...

You'd better ask him and offer him an honourable exit door from this game

yes, this is somewhat correct. I have asked Cuttlefish about the situation and he replied that he is really discouraged about not being able to even take Clark Field in 42, not so much worried about his ship losses (which seems to usually be the main problem of an IJ player).

the game actually reached December already and the AAR of both October and November will be absolutely the same and as boring as the last months but Cuttlefish pretty much agreed on what he should have done so far but didn't and said he will stiffen his defenses from now on, so I expect him to be back into the game 100%. Otherwise it will be just a waste of time to be honest because all I do every turn is spending time for pilot training and ferrying around troops and supplies and this has been going on for months already (both in the game and real life).

same as on the last pages of the AAR, it's not really worth posting nor reading all those boring combat reports, I decided to have them complete in the AAR though so I will go on posting them nevertheless... just don't expect anything special happening, even an AAR vs the AI would be more entertaining... at the moment doing turns for me is like working on an excel sheet but nothing more, hopefully Cuttlefish will really gear up, otherwise it will be a waste of hundreds of hours of our life (at least mine because on average I still spend an hour on a turn plus a couple of minutes per combat report in the AAR)... this attack won't make CF mood any better, he wanted to attack at Clark Field but only set one div to attack and forgot to click on "order all units to attack"... the division was shred of course but to be honest, shredding one div is better than setting all units to attack because they wouldn't achieve anything but taking losses... when I told CF he should have just made Clark Field a POW camp long ago he agreed, hopefully he does this soon and sends out his units to the front...

Sub attack near Tanegashima at 102,63

pfff [8|] has there been a change in Babes to hamper Mk-14 torps completely? I never agreed with a 80% dud rate in the game as this makes US subs even more ineffective than they were in real life due to how the game modells sub attacks but in this PBEM I seem to be somewhere around 98% dud rate of Mk-14 torps...

taking heavy damage from the first torp, the light cruiser is split off and the single escorts fails just like the leading ASW TF plus the rest of the roughly 60 destroyers in the hex and Leander is sunk by I-18 with a second attack... hurrey... CF confirmed that my ASW was able to sink one enemy sub so far, the rest that was killed either was hit by one of my subs or ran into a mine... mhm, ASW...

Hmm . . . bravery is one thing, but there comes a time to hide in the jungle and keep quiet. [:D]
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

here's the situation in Burma, the only base that is still held by Japanese troops is Moulmein where he sure will make a stand in good defensive terrain behind the river... Rangoon autoswitched today, we already got 100,000 supplies in Burma, all came from Akyab... supply movement is a problem, yeah, sure... not in this game and I can asure you that I don't even try to do something to enhance supply flow...

SS Sculpin

nothing but duds all the time, having a dud rate of something like 99%... I really do like the split tubes of Babes but it also creates a problem as it renders USN fleet subs even more useless than they were in real life or vanilla... why? Because in vanilla you have a 80% dud rate per torp but you fire usually 4 or 6 torps at once so you might get two or three torps hitting, all getting a die roll with the 80% dud rate... here the subs usually fire a realistic spread but you get far less hits that undergo the die roll for duds and in the end you get nothing but duds all the time as I see for months (the game enters 43 already and it goes on just like it has been the last months)... [:(]

if my assumption is wrong and the die roll isn't done for each torp but the whole salvo then I must have been unthinkably unlucky with a hundred torps achieving two kills in three months...
