My one short venture into PBEM territory was playing an early version of Focus Pacific against Lowpe. Let's just say I don't put much stock in the self-deprecation coming from Lowpe. He knows this game.

That was clear from the things he was examining to get ready as Allies, and the unconventional strategies he is considering.
Then why did he send Stalin rotten sushi? Or did he just want a different game? [&:]
He saved the good sushi( if there is such a thing ) for himself.
Alfred's post about Lowpe being of Grand Master level is accurate. Having seen some of your play in AARs I find myself wondering why you would even want to play a game against someone who isn't in that league?
It would surely not be interesting for very long and I can imagine the frustration level for the outmatched opponent would soon cause then to quit. Seems like a waste of time for you.
Sometimes things said in Nitwit sound very different in English.
There's people who've mastered the strategy/thoughtful side of the game in how they approach the campaign, where the strike and when to achieve victory or (for Japan) stave off defeat. There are others who might not be as adept on that side, but make up for it with their logistical brilliance and attention to detail in this game of a thousand click (or perhaps millions). Lowpe is one of the few that have both of those capabilities, from what I can tell.
Unfortunately for me, I have neither of them, but I think I suffer more acutely from lack of attention to detail and logistics.
Given that Scout has been on these forums for awhile and seems interested in doing well, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now in regards to his future pace of play. It remains to be seen if he will be able to survive to '44 or '45 against a Lowpe playing the Allies.

Some of you guys probably don't want to hear this, but I have given Japan till Friday to complete the preturn. He swears he will be able to do it by Friday or sooner.
He is no Japan rookie, having played Japan deep into the game, he has a long history on the forum, and was also interested in a slower game. So he meets all my criteria, it is just unfortunate that he had some irl issues crop up after starting the game. If we would have gotten in some turns prior to his emergency then there would be none of this drama.
Now, I have not read any of his recent threads on the forum, and from your posts its seems like he has forgot alot. Time will tell, hopefully, and it is funny how gameplay seems to rise to the challenge.
I am not interested in a torrid game pace and I want to try my hand at the Allies. Those two requirements make finding a game somewhat difficult. I have had three responses to my game inquiry, all three my potential opponents would prefer to play the Allies.
I want to relax and read the TOE. Look at the history of units and leaders. Explore the depth of the game.
By the way, Dan has not logged on in over 4 weeks that I know of.
Dan took a breather from the forum, well, he kind of got cancelled on that cancerous covid thread where thinking for yourself is highly discouraged. Enough said...I don't want that stuff coming into an AAR.
He followed the discussion on the thread about the Japanese magic move TFs closely. It raised a number of possibilities of which he was unaware and some tactical considerations as well. He appears to me to be interested in a game, and I doubt that it is a passing interest given his serious questions and his history on the forum.
I think that you will be fine and have a good, albeit slow-paced game.
One of the problems with AARs is the criticism that the opponents of the protagonists often receive. It is a hard game and requires a substantial commitment of time. Finding opponents is not easy, especially experienced Japanese opponents. It would be helpful, I think, if folk were a little gentler in their comments about opponents. Your opponent in this game is a partner in a long-term commitment and often becomes a friend. He is not the enemy. It is just a game, and everyone makes mistakes or has real-life issues interfere from time to time in their ability to complete turns in a timely fashion.

C-C, that was a fun game, but the mod (at that point) was so broken -- it was early in its development. Too bad never got to see the French tank regiments in action.[;)]

Impossible! Orwellian Truth is the one true truth. I haven't looked at the supposed 'no politics' version and I don't plan to.
I hope you get the turn Friday. Even if it's later than that, I doubt he would just string you along. That would be a lot of effort just to punk you. It would be nice if you received a clearer explanation of the timeline, but whatever.

Yup and yup.
I 100% agree with thoughts of Alamander and Witpqs on Scout. He does seem sincere in his threads and looking to putting in effort. I hope you get that turn by Friday. Anyways, I'll be seeing myself out till hopefully the actual game (or at least pre-turn) starts.

I know he feels bad for taking so long, but he wants to do well. Who knows what will happen! I hope he tears the Allies up!
On the Allied side, I do so want to use the Thundering Herd as a giant worm on a hook leading some big IJN warships into a trap. It is a long shot, but it would be glorious. [;)]
I have discovered what I think is a novel aspect of the game mechanics, it is not gamey, but an unexpected relationship...to a very important aspect of the game.
I have been told, by people that I trust, that my n is very low (and, it is[;)]) and I am conflating things, false connections, but I think not. In the first week of the game I will reveal all, both here in game, and then on the forum at large in the War Room, which sadly needs new threads about tactics.
Stay tuned true believers![:D] You are of course free to guess what it might be -- and it is not sushi.[;)]
Think if the KB sung over to Coos Bay and did some strategic bombing there . . . 9++++++++++++++++
I actually thought of that, and alluded to it in a previous post I believe.
Anyhow, protecting the strategic resources in America and in Oz are pretty high on the to do list. In this beefed up game for Japan, I don't want to gift Japan with 5000 strategic vp.
