Ouch. That's a difficult combination. Since my mom is 90 and in assisted living, the vulnerability of her age group is always in mind.

How is it that you have an aunt in Canada?

My mother is a first generation American, having been born and raised with her two sisters in Montreal. I'm 50% French- Canadian by blood.

I have a favor to ask the Canadian readers of this thread. Can you please point me towards the latest restrictions on Americans on travel to Canada? Last I heard, Canada was allowing Americans to travel there, but with a mandated 14 day quarantine upon arrival. Is that still in effect?

I need to think about travelling there within two weeks.

Cuomo Says 21 Percent of Those Tested in N.Y.C. Had Virus Antibodies
Apr 23, 2020

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/23/nyre ... pdate.html

"About 21 percent of roughly 1,300 people in New York City who were tested for coronavirus antibodies this week tested positive, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said on Thursday.

The results come from a state program that randomly tested 3,000 supermarket customers across New York State. Nearly 14 percent of those tests came back positive, Mr. Cuomo said.

If those numbers translate to the true incidence of coronavirus, they would mean that more than 1.7 million people in New York City, and more than 2.6 million people statewide, have already been infected.

These numbers are far greater than the 250,000 confirmed cases of the virus itself that the state has recorded.

They would also mean that the fatality rate from the virus is relatively low — about 0.5 percent, Mr. Cuomo said."

Bad news from abroad. My Aunt (and Godmother) who was in a nursing home in Quebec has been moved to the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. She is 91. [:(]

In all seriousness though I am sorry to hear this. I hope she's okay.

There sure are a lot of dancing nurses and doctors vids. By the ones that have not been laid-off. Some very well choreographed( lots of practice)

Must be from all that stress of being in DEVASTATING COMBAT ON THE FRONT LINES.

The evil part of me typing here.....I think if you can get close enough by plane, a small chartered boat could get you in. But hopefully it does not get there....

Hello friend

1 - My condolences. Mes Amies du Quebec have been harder hit than most Canadians (Provincially the statistics / curve is worse) . In fact in Quebec and Ontario the vast majority of fatalities are in nursing homes.

2) Voila

I am uncertain where that is directed though I fully understand Warsprite joking manner [8D]

Foggy raw and dull applies to France ?

I thought summer lasted 4 days in England - except near Brighton where it lasts 7 days ? [8D]

Montreal is cold now - like New York seasonably below average. Montreal is beautiful in summer - assuming Montreal is your destination. A very great city I highly recommend - and no - I am not 50% Canadien Francais.

Factoid: In World War 2 Montreal was the only closed city to Allied Military Personal because it was considered "loose in morals" for a brief period due to the conscription crisis in Canada. However the ban was lifted eventually

Bad weather in the UK is overstated. Rains much harder in NY - you don't actually need a brolly in London to keep from getting soaked. That said, when I lived there it was a bit odd to see half naked people lounging out in Green Park on the first 'nice' day in April. By nice I mean about 60 F, maybe 15 C.

It's time this thread was locked.

That is because you helped get the threads on the General forum locked.

Hey! How are all the boomers?

Doing great, don't need stool softener yet.[:D]

Always wanted to jump into the pool from the 2nd floor but never had the chance. In my fraternity days, we had parties for Halloween where we piled hay onto the front patio (large house, large patio) and jumped down into it from a 2nd floor balcony (complete with greek columns of course). We always had beer on tap, and at parties garbage bags full of grain alcohol and grape bug juice

I jumped off a three story tower and stopped halfway down with just air right under me. I was on air and not moving. There was no fan under me. Then I descended the rest of the way and landed on my feet. [:D]

I always like to ask people who claim that they are French Canadian. Are you French? Or are you Canadian?

That said, at least one of my ancestors did live in France for awhile. [8|] There are still people living there with that same last name is my understanding.

40 F is tee shirt and shorts weather . . .

I even dressed that way when it was in the 20s F. People urged me to put a coat on because I was making them feet cold.
