RE: THE THREAD!!!
A nice photo that screams danger to JFBs. The sea looks odd in the shot as well, probably why it's called Pacific.

So do we have any brethern in the San Diego are?[&:] I might have a trip there in early November. And my spouse and I are planning a European vacation sometime next spring. I'm trying to figure which brothers would be up for my buying them a drink as I quickly pass through their towns.[&:]

I think it does, kind of unnatural. But the few time I got out of the sight of land I also got spooked. Kind of a good theme for this Halloween. Perhaps I should post the Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Dixie, your Armistice day sig is well done. Bravo
Thanks mate, I like to have one up every year.
Yes, last year's ceremony actually brought a tear to my eye, watching the last survivors placing their wreaths. Especially Henry Allington (iirc) who didn't want to have his placed by his two escorts. I was stuck in tool stores so I was watching the parade and service on TV.
I found the lone soldier trudging through the mud and shell holes to be quite poignant for some reason, and the Kohima epitaph is fitting. It's shorter than the usual verse from The Fallen.

No help for San Diego, Steve, but we're considering a trip to Scotland in the spring. [8D]

Well, both my spouse and I have friends in the Nottingham area, so while I know that you don't drink, perhaps we can still work something out.[:)]
Maybe if Simon's in town at the same time, we can all meet up. As for any where else in Europe , if the train goes there, so can I. As for the Uk, I have no problem hiring a car and driving there (although it's been a VERY long time since I've driven there! Probably not since you were born Martin! [X(]). [:D]

Always a good destination. I keep trying to make it to Edinburg for the Tatoo in early fall. And every time that I show up , it's the one weekend that it's NOT being performed. Oh well, fifteenth time's the charm! [X(][:D]

Sara's family traces their roots back over 300 years to Stirling, a town just outside Edinburgh. I know the weather might not be great at that time of year, but it's spring break from school, and off season for hotels and airfare, too. [8D] Nothing concrete yet, just an idea that is taking shape to take a trip.

I hear you. My grandfather, mothers father, fought in France in 1918. He fought with the 91st Division 364 Infantry from Sept 1918 to the end. He fought in three battles, Saint-Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne Offensive, and Ypres-Lys. [8D] [:)]ORIGINAL: Dixie
